Default Texture related issue??
I have a problem with some bottom clothes and when I set the option to texture high. I have a weird shadow covering my sim skin , but when I set to medium texture quality it displays properly. This happens only with some clothes. Here are the examples

It's (most likely) either an issue with the normal map (wrong texture setting, wrong size, or similar), or the meshes haven't been set up properly and lack some settings (you can see if Lazyduchess' "Bright CAS fix" mod fixes it, which it should if that's the case).

If there's an issue like this with a top or bottom, it tends to show on the whole mesh (the bottom overlays the top).

If you know where to find at least one of the items, can you link to it? I can check out what's wrong.

I don’t remember the one he is wearing but I have a problem with this cargo pants too: https://modthesims.info/d/80109/pan...5-the-neck.html
I will try the bright cas and see if that fixes it

https://lazyduchess.tumblr.com/post...-bright-cas-fix (some items can show up bright on lots, too. It's often more of an issue with older hairs and clothes).

Those pants have the issue the mod helps for, so it's likely it's going to help, at least for that outfit.

Oh, that explains why removing the bump map fixes the problem!

Hmm, that's strange. I had the same problem with cupcakeyy's male clothing here, but only with the adult version. https://simbury.tumblr.com/post/618...r-you-all-today

But the adult and teen versions both have that line in the mesh.

Removing the bump map can also fix it, though it's not a guarantee for the items that lack the line in the mesh.
If the mesh has the line, the issue is usually in the bump maps (set to the wrong type, wrong size - must match the size of the corresponding texture and/or skin for the age, etc.)

I tested one outfit with the bump map removed and one with the bump map set to the same as the regular texture (one was DXT3 and the other was DXT1). Removing the bump map worked, but changing the textures to match didn't.

Explains why the teen version worked though. It had no bump map (and the adult one is all grey, so I'm not sure why it even has one lol).

Maybe it still had references in the TXMT? If it references a bump map that isn't there, it could likely cause issues.

Normal (bump) maps should be set to RAW8bit. It should not be a DXT setting. You can import in as DXT if you need to fix it, but set it to Raw8bit before saving.

I meant it must match the size. If the bump map is smaller or larger than the texture (or the skin texture for anything that overlays the skin), you'll see the same problem.

And of course, if it lacks the line in the mesh groups. This affects all recolors.

Size was the same. The only thing I noticed that was different was the DXT3/DXT1. And I tested by switching to RAW8bit and it fixed it! That's useful to know, thanks!

Still going to go through and remove the bump map texture and references on these outfits, because a totally grey bump map is a waste of space.

If the bump map is fully grey or uses a different texture than the main texture (as in clearly not updated to be used for that outfit), the best thing is to just remove the normalmap TXTR(s), plus the 4 "normalmap" lines in the TXMTs (make sure to not confuse them with the lines for the main texture. The Normalmap lines are further down).

You can of course fix a normal map for an outfit, but in most cases the outfit doesn't gain too much. You also need to do it properly, or the normals end up looking weird (Some people make the texture greytoned and reduce the opacity over a grey texture, or variations of this - but it isn't necessarily a good way. It looks weird for a lot of patterns, and sometimes turns the normals the wrong way, at least if you haven't inverted the texture first. It still needs a lot of fixing. Anything that isn't roughly that shade of grey with diffuse highlights/shade will likely look strange, because the darker/lighter a part of a bump map is, the more offset that part of the texture will appear to be). Ideally, you'll want to only have parts of the texture that's supposed to stand out or be inset show up brighter/darker on a bump map (such as a painted-on belt buckle or belt, maybe a slight clothing texture without patterns, letting a shirt decal stand out, things like that - and a little is often enough. Anything else should either not show up or just have a soft grey gradient color so there's some detail. Most original TS2 bump maps aren't too shabby, so those can be used as guides for how to do it).

@holydays

Seeing as I hijacked your thread, if you end up needing to remove the bump maps then there is a tutorial here. https://skellington7d.livejournal.com/89327.html
