I've played Sims 3 for years but have always been a Mac user and have all of the expansions/stuff packs on disc. I've always wanted to try CAW but it was never an option for my machines (I tried once on Bootcamp and found it didn't work well there.)

I'm considering buying a used PC primarily for using CAW - I imagine, at this point, I should be able to buy such a machine used for not that much investment. But, being unfamiliar with both CAW and windows, I'm not sure what exactly to look for.

• I'm assuming it would also have to run all of the expansions and stuff packs. Is this a correct assumption?
• If you were looking for a computer specifically for running CAW, what would you look for? Is using an older version of Windows better than using an updated one?

You can get away with just a base game, though there are additional steps to get CAW to load custom contents in Mods folder since it won't load anything that wasn't installed in the launcher out-of-the-box.


I'm currently play Sims 3 on ten-years-old Intel machine with integrated graphics and Windows, and generally it is smooth enough. the game is old enough that high-end computers in the past five years would be overkill for it. The most important part that will make the game load stuff faster is having an SSDs and install the game on there.
