Default The Sims 2 is acting slow on Linux Mint 22.1 'Cinnamon'
Hello

Y'all might remember me from the time I said that I had trouble deleting large amounts of lots from my sims 2, and it crashing?

Well, I think its safe to say that I don't have that problem anymore because I switched from windows to Linux!

Anywho,

My problem is that when I play the Sims 2, it works all right, but it's very slow and choppy when I enter lots and occupied ones at that.

Here I have attached my CONFIG file and a list of my specs from my Linux build. I have Lutris and Wine 10.0 stable installed on my computer.

I don't know what else to say, please help.
Attached files:
File Type: txt  FRITZ-YOGA-6-13-config-log.txt (10.6 KB, 14 downloads)
File Type: txt  SPECS.txt (6.4 KB, 18 downloads)

Do you have the issue without CC? (excluding mods that help reduce lag by for isntance preventing excessive NPC spawning, the visitor controller, etc.)

Have you eliminated other potential problems (tried with abovementioned mods?)

Could be the laptop with the combo of the CPU and graphics that's giving you some bottlenecks, and not Linux. Running the game at all shouldn't be an issue (most potato-laptops/PCs would be able to these days), but running it well with good graphics, without a bit of lag (especially with CC) could be an issue.

TS2 with all expansions requires at least 2 GhZ for the CPU, and it can also be a bit unstable with/doesn't utilize multiple cores as well as more modern games do, so if the CPU is already on the slightly low-end side, that's one potential issue.

Another is RAM - 8 GB is perhaps okay, but it depends how demanding Linux (and whatever else you've got going in the background) is. My laptop frequently use 4-6 GB just for a few background tasks and a browser...

Could also be the graphic card/chip (the one you've got seems to have a overall low benchmark scores - seems to perform them okay-ish on low settings, though they usually test the newer games - if you're playing TS2 with the regular settings on high/medium but shaders off, it's probably fine, but with shaders turned on, or with Reshade or anything like that... likely another issue. Shaders are quite demanding).

I don't necessarily have modes that conflict with performance. Does shadow fixes and NPC car spawners count?

I think I also have 8GB of RAM, and Lutris loads DXVK and V3D9 libraries or whatever.

I think what I need is for someone how to tell me how to downgrade from Wine 10.0 to 9.0. I don't know if that's the case or if I need more

If the NPC car spawner is for lot view and not for neighborhood view, then it could be an issue. Have you tried without?

Shadow fixes shouldn't be an issue (other than shadows themselves being somewhat heavy to render, especially outdoor shadows - you can easily test if that's the issue by turning shadows off and see if the lag gets much better or stays roughly the same).

Hey Hey,

Sorry for the late response,

I have fixed the problem by clicking on the configure button on the Wine logo on the sidebar.

An when I clicked the button, I downloaded the wine-ge-x86_64, or something like that, and It WorKed!

Even thought I fixed the problem, I was not able to do it with your information, or some of it.

Thank you, and thank to Lutris and Wine and Simmer22 !!!!
