Disclaimer before we start or anyone might get mad at me:
I want to preface this challenge by saying it's meant as cultural appreciation/experience, the same as traveling to a region and living around/with locals would be. I did a lot of research to try my best to represent each region/generation properly, but if I got something wrong please let me know. I made this challenge with the best of intentions to sort of travel the world, but through sims.
I also want to note that I understand that each group and region has various traditions that vary by observance level (if based on a religion) and/or by specific location in that region, I can't encompass everything but I did try to touch on traditions that are unique to each group.
I also understand that in every area of the world there are more modern areas or ideals, however I did try to focus on less modern/westernized and more traditionaol aspects of each region/group, because honestly modern westernized culture is all we have in the game.
Universal Rules and Other Info
Pick at least 2 traits from each generation and randomize the rest
Most careers and aspirations are recommendations but some generations have mini aspirations that are required
Please look up the current fashion and traditional clothes of each region and dress your sims accordingly, cc is highly recommended but probably not needed if you have most packs.
There order of the generations listed is random, you may go in any order you want.
I think the most appropriate ways to switch between cultures/generations are:
-Adopt a child, that child, upon reaching teen/adulthood, decides to move to their home culture area and be immersed in their birth culture
-Be an expat/marry into it and immerse yourself in your spouse's culture
I highly recommend this page for identifying dishes related to each culture which should be part of your sim's staple diet. It's not an exhaustive list though and sims does have gaps, so cc is recommended to add cultural dishes for each gen where not available.
World Building- When starting a new generation, pick which world you will live in and rebuild it from the gallery, add in townies specific to that region, that way the immersion is better and your sim will have friends to celebrate the cultural holidays with.
You should also pick a lot and build a cemetery for your legacy family, this will be useful for remembrance holidays
Holiday schedules are based on a default 7 day Sunday-Saturday season cycle however some holidays are specifically lunar based so the day they may occur varies
Traditions are limited based on the limited non cc game options, so cc is recommended but I set them up to not be necessary.
Whether a holiday is given time off or not is based on the importance of the holiday, how many real life days it actually is, and/or the complexity of different traditions and your sim might need the extra time, but feel free to add or remove time off.
Some holidays may have been skipped due to the complete inability to celebrate them correctly in sims.
I highly recommend looking up each holiday or tradition so you can get a better idea of how to celebrate beyond the cookie cutter available traditions
Some generations require or recommend reading religion-related books. You can probably find CC or pick a random book, however I had a sim write them and you can find them in the gallery under #worldcultureschallenge room-study. Also please share any builds for this challenge under that hashtag! I'd love to see them!
When a generation require tattoos is highly recommend to either download from the gallery or get cc based on that region's specific tattoo style, it does not mean use any random tattoo
Personally I think this challenge is the perfect opportunity to try out the Language Barriers Mod
(If you can't tell I'm a fan of cc/mods, but they are not required for this challenge...just highly recommended for the best representation)
