New Contest! Ideas and discussion
I had such a lot of fun in the last contest, organised by Justpetro That I thought it would be fun to do another, perhaps toward the end of the year.

Here's the last contest:
https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=689383

1) Would you be interested in watching, participating, running or judging a contest?

2) What should the contest involve? Making sims, making lots, making pets? Gimme ideas.

3) How long should it be (how many rounds), and should people be allowed to play along for fun and show their pictures?

I'm happy to run a contest should no-one else want to, or judge. My idea for a contest is- make a sim for one round, build them a house in the next, build a business for them in another, build a community lot for their interests in the final round.

What do you all think? Click disagree if you really hate contests and wish I would disappear up my own bottom and stop harassing you. Click agree if you never bother reading to the end of the post and just like to click things.

I think a themed family contest would be fun. It's just a suggestion, like a house and family contest. And at the end of the contest, gather all the families in one special hood, with the winners in the best area or something like that. xD I'm a bit busy, although I love contests, especially if the things people create are used for something or download. So for now, I'm just watching and supporting them with "loves". ^^

Why do I want to click disagree now, even though I don't feel that way?

I don't know what to do for a contest, but I watched the last one.

My dear Mr. Sample,
Thank you for your humor! Would like a quirky sort of challenge, maybe involving making sims with really extreme faces (aliens?). Or/and houses that match them - like ugly and dirty/nasty, or totally odd. "Why is the only bathroom a bush?"

Stand up, speak out. Just not to me..

Interior Deco challenge/contest? Give me a color scheme! Give me a room to decorate and clutter! Pit it against others!

Uh oh! My social bar is low - that's why I posted today.

i remember simsample recommending me sim sample to marry off to my sims so why not a the bachelor contest with mr sim sample xD
idk the logistics of it but it would be so entertaining xD

half-joking aside, if we do any sort of building or decorating contest i would love to watch or play along too
im not sure if im able to fully join with how busy ive become
and maybe 3 rounds is enough? 4 for tie breaker?

INTERESTED

Will love to take part as a contestant, a judge or a host (but judging will be hard for me if it is not building, I don't know if I have enough knowledge of anything else).

Seeing how, in the previous contest, @Pebblerocker ROCKED the last round, and how we had 3 different contestants winning rounds (@simsample, @shastakiss and @Pebblerocker) - I like the 4 rounds to remain. I think it is very special to win a round too (never won a round myself, always wished I could). Also, it was nice to see how contestants improved over the 4 rounds and how their points went up.

The idea of making a family and build a house for them which you floated before is attractive to me. Here is a quick proposal then (I will keep the lots small, 2X2) (I have not thought it through, it is a suggestion only):

Round 1
Make a single sim
Build a starter house for the sim (perhaps give him a bit more money, e.g. 30,000).

Round 2
Make a couple
Build a house for them (40,000)

Round 3
Make a family of 2 parents and 2 kids (1 is a toddler)
Build a house (50,000)

Round 4
Build a community lot which all of them can use. (If we can get everyone to save their empty lots, we can make a small map, have all the lots on it and make a little subhood in the end for anyone to download).

It can have a bit of rules, e.g. the house must suit the aspirations (contestant's choice) and provision must be made for a bit of a hobby or something like that?

I like that idea. When you look at houses to download there never seems to be a place for hobby benches, even my starter homes get a workshop.

I'm in!!! Contests are fun.

My Summer is going to be *really busy* too - as I think we are moving, to be closer to my aging parents.
(They are in their mid-80's and we are currently 3 hours away - which is too far for emergencies!)

I have a few contest ideas I've been kicking around in my head too - mine are all "build"-centric ideas...
If I don't get mine started before anyone else does - I'd be happy to participate or judge, whichever is needed more.

***********************************
One of my ideas is: Leave It, Love It, Live It
Round 1 would have a few floor plans to build (you choose which one, from the several I provide, that you want to tackle) Then decide if you want to "leave it" and not continue with that plan.
Judging on how well you followed the floor plan. Building only, no decorating... yet.

Round 2 you can decide to start over with a different plan (if you "left it") or continue with this plan and decorate/landscape it out to the max! Even if you started over on a new floor plan, this is a 'decorating' round, so the house must be fully decorated/landscaped.
Judging on how well the interior/exterior decorating is done.

Round 3 create the family that will live in the house - move them in, and see how they like it.
Judging on CAS creation and story-telling.

***********************************
Another idea is a Fix it or Flip it idea
Where I provide the house shell, and you decide to "Fix It" (to a livable level) or "Flip It" (to make money). This idea would need to incorporate budgeting, and part of 'winning' the round would be tied with making the most money.
To level the playing field, we might have to go CC-Free? Not sure... haven't finished thinking that one out.

Anyway... the short answer: I like contests! I'm in.

Thank you for all of your ideas so far, glad some people are interested! @shastakiss I hope you will join in too! Please keep the ideas and discussions coming.

I know that some people like to make sims and don't build, and vice-versa- so it did occur to me that we could kinda do a 'double' contest. So, have round 1 for simmers, who will create a sim. Then, round 2 is for the builders- choose one of the sims from round 1 and build a house (or shop or community lot) for them. Builders and simmers would each get a score. Then round 3 could be- simmers, make a romantic partner (or business partner? Lots of possibilities) for one of the sims from round 1. Then for round 4 the builders could build something (date venue, hobby club, apartment??) for those two. Scoring for sims could be not only the sims' appearance/ personality/ fashion, but also suitability of pairing etc. Scoring for builders could be not only quality of build/ technical expertise/ design but also suitability for the sims chosen. Would that kind of thing be fun? People could enter both the building and simming bits if they like (but scores from the two are kept seperate, so it would be possible for someone to win both!). And people could drop out or re-join or play along, it's just the highest score from each round who gets the blue ribbon. Could do three rounds for each?

We could! There could be a 'make a terrain in SC4 and decorate it' round!

ahaha build a hood contest? xD

decorating a sc4 terrain is one of my guilty pleasures
a round dedicated to decorating and zoning a provided terrain would be nice xD

and then the following round is CAS, then the house, then another CAS, then the community lot/business?
depending on the number of participants, we really are gonna end up with a hood xD

The SC4 terrain bit could be a 'hood builders' round for the joint contest, the final round could be to pick the terrain you like best and stick the sims and lots you like best in it!

I like the idea of making a terrain for all the lots at the end (if we have enough lots).

Perhaps instead of a contest (not all players have SC4) those of us who can make one can just post our empty maps and players can vote for one? Then there can be a decorating the map round, because everyone can do that if they have the map.

(I won't be making sims, my sims are simple maxi sims, they all (except for the Pooklet hair) look a bit like Goopi, Brandi, Sandy and Komei (I like them that way). Don't want to judge them either; to be honest, not sure I will be able to do that fairly.

i totally get where Justpetro is coming from

maybe the CAS rounds can be for fun and only the lots built for them are the ones for judging

I'd love to join another competition.
Several years ago I was lucky enough to join (though unlucky not to finish) the Strangetown trading places competition. It was a good fit for me, as I didn't need to be creative enough to come up with a build and family from scratch.
Build challenges where everyone works off the same shell are my favourite.

I have thought about the suggestions, and I really like Cat's Fix it of Flip it idea (@CatherineTCJD).

You can even build (or be given one, or even a choice of them) a broken lot (fixer-upper?) and then fix it completely, sell it and then that money needs to be used to buy another fixer-upper and fix it as well.

I also like the idea of a budget being involved and can see potential: you buy the first "fixer-upper", then fix and sell it, then use that money to buy the next "fixer-upper" and the council may or may not grant you a bit of extra money in each round. It will have to be worked out properly, but it could be fun.

And one can still make a hood with the "fixed" lots.

What about- we have three contests in one (which was kinda what I was getting at in my post #11).

So, there's a sim contest, a building contest, and a hood making contest. And they are all combined into one contest (and bits of each are used in the other). So for example, Fred likes making sims, but he doesn't like making terrains or building. So he just enters the rounds for sim making. Anna likes building, that's all she does. So she just enters the building contest (and she can choose one of Fred's sims to build for). Joe likes making hoods, so he just enters the hood building contest (he can use Fred's sims and Anna's lots for his hood). At the end, Fred, Anna and Joe each get a score for just the rounds they participated in. And so at the end we have a sim winner, a build winner, and a hood winner. Should Brenda enter, well- she can enter a sim, a house and a hood- as she likes to do all three. She gets three seperate scores. So she could win in more than one discipline.

Too complicated? Might be a looooooong contest! But it would suit people who like different aspects of the game (after all, the last contest was a building contest, but some people like to make sims!)

Poor Anna - she has my sympathy

@simsample, the idea is great, but such a contest will be a nightmare for the host. Hosting honestly takes up a LOT of time, and if one drags on for months or end, it will be very hard on the host.

I think it is very important to make sure beginners can take part (there seem to be quite a number of new players with the Legacy edition) - I think I did not try hard enough to do that in my own contest, but a building contest is the place where one learns more about building than anywhere else (or at least I did).

I think this would pass as a fixer upper https://modthesims.info/d/525926/ma...ions-no-cc.html

You could do this as a completely separate challenge/contest, People who want to join download this house and see you two weeks.

Yes! I'd love to hear some more ideas! I'm still thinking, I really would love to do something involving making a sim as well as building though, as we haven't had sim making contest for ages.

What about a "Who Dunnit?" theme?

Imagine the judges are the producers, writers, and directors for a detective movie and they are on a search for their lead actors?
There would be a mystery; a crime, a stolen object, a missing person etc., and Participants would need to make a Sim who would fit certain archetypes (or Sims! If 2 can function in the narrative well enough, I say why not. Though this shouldn't give bonus points. I think a max of 2 sims should be enough as to not be too complicated.)
Round 1: The Detective
Round 2: The Damsel in Distress / The Femme Fatale
Round 3: The Red Herring / The Scapegoat
Round 4: The Culprit

Builders could make the sets of the movie/story...
Round 1: The Opening Act (Where all Sims would've met each other at some point. A Community lot works best)
Round 2: The Detective's Sanctuary (It could be an office, the sim's home, a park that for some reason boosts their intellect etc.)
Round 3: The Scene of the Crime (Can be a community lot or residential; maybe it happened during a party? This can be the home of either the Round 2 or Round 3 sim)
Round 4: The Villain's Lair (It can be the Culprit's home, an owned community lot or business lot, or a place near the scene of the crime, etc.)

Thoughts?
