Default Ideas for making “magazines”?
I guess it’s a bit of a weird thing to want, but I am brainstorming ideas on how to add magazines of sorts to my game. Right now, my best ideas are either having a sim write books that act as “magazines” or using the blog feature from university life. The problem with the first one is that writing the book will probably take a while, plus it generally doesn’t really work like a magazine… because it’s not. The best option seems like the second one, but then it wouldn’t be something others could read (at least I don’t think so) but only that the other sim could write. I figured there would be no harm in asking if anyone had ideas, I imagine people here would be better than me at figuring out ways to do this. Like I said to begin with, it’s probably a bit of a weird thing to want, and maybe a little ambitious, but it’s worth a shot. Thanks.

Sounds like an interesting idea. 😮 You could take some inspiration from the magazines in The Sims 2 as those were functional: https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Magazine

I am hoping to do something a bit like that, although my biggest problem is how? I’m not sure how I could make it work.

I'd look at skill books, and see if they can be made to produce points for different things.

That’s a good shout, I’ll see if I can make it work. Thanks!

If you're up for learning script modding, I'd probably look at the scripts for the newspaper and skill books as a starting point.
If you're just looking for a more 'pretend' version ingame, you could speed through writing some books with a sim that are named like magazines. The 'Article' genre, available to sims in the Journalism career (or anyone with Ani's Writing Mod), is the shortest book type that would be quick to write and read. You could order extra copies, or clone them with DebugEnabler, to give to your sims or place on lots.

I also know that CCLoader supports injecting custom books. It's commonly used for recipes, but if it supports skill books you could make some short/ineffective ones that are textured like magazines

ps. It's better to bump your original thread, which is only a month old, than make the exact same one again :p

Thank you for all this! I don’t mind looking into script modding at all, and I didn’t realise articles in game could be actual, physical books. I am pretty new here, so I didn’t know about “bumping”. Thank you very much for telling me about it, I hope making a new one didn’t cause any trouble!

I know it’s been a couple days and I’ve already replied, but I was just wondering how ordering more articles would work? I’ve googled it and got nothing, and I would prefer to use an in game method to get more books (if possible) instead of using a mod to clone more. Sorry to bother you, thank you!

The author of the book(s) should have an option on any computer to 'Purchase Written Books'.
Alternatively, if you have NRaas WrittenWord the book will be available at the bookstore
