Default Converting a pair of accessory pants from "accessory" to "bottoms"
So I downloaded a pair of stockings which is originally modded to be an accessory. I want it to be in the "bottoms" category & have it still be a functioning bottom selection in CAS (or makeover).

I tried changing it in S3PE but it becomes all wonky and basically doesn't work. How can I convert it to bottoms & have that piece of clothing still function?

Hey! I find it a lot easier to use TSR Workshop, it should allow you to change the CAS category. Open the package file in TSRW and you should find the necessary options in the Project panel on the right.

Export all images using s3pe. Open af bikini tie bottom in TSRW. Replace the texture images with the ones from the stockings. Don't forget to replace all images in the mesh tab. Change the categories to what you want for the bottom. Export package, and done. The package has all new numbers, and won't mess with the original. Keep both.
