Default Can I safely change the dString of a custom object?
Hi all! I recently downloaded some recolors, but unfortunately some of them have very long dString names, which freeze my game when I select them.

Can I shorten them without borking my files?

Never seen a string this long before - which recolors are those (out of curiosity)? Could take a peek, it could be a mesh issue that's easier to fix for the mesh.

The bed blanket recolours from here. It’s not all of them , if I recall correctly it’s mostly the higher numbered ones. http://ohbehave007.blogspot.com/201...es-day.html?m=1

I've recolored that mesh several times, never had those long strings happen, though after a bit of thinking, I have seen a similar kind of string when you clone a clone of a clone of a clone (and so on), which I rarely see other places than for CAS meshes.

The strings in the files are the same but with an addition for each file, which makes me think each additional recolor has been made as a clone of the previous file, or made by doing "Fix Integrity" on the current file (or some such), which is not the proper way to make object recolors.

Best thing would probably be to redo the files, since fixing the strings involves fixing all strings in the whole file (mmat/txtr/txmt) - and because of the cloning, they share most of the string except the ending, so you also need to make sure each of the files have unique ones, but still following the string naming pattern for those files. It's possible to do, but very easy to mess up since it gets confusing quite fast.

Maybe editing would've been a decent option if it was one or two files, but for 60 files it's a whole lot less trouble to extract the textures and make new recolors the proper way. No need to worry about the strings then.

The "Lover'sCorner-Pictures" files look to have been made the same way (strings from RC06 and on look like they're clones that started from the RC05 file), but the candle and flower files seem fine.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation!
I was hoping it was something I could change in SimPE but oh well.
