Default Unsavory Charlatan and Skin Replacements
since I got a skin replacement I noticed how Unsavory Charlatan has a border where, what appears to be S1, is visible from
and another at the back where his hair ends, he's the only character with this quirk as far as I know

pictures on internet show that I'm not the only one who has experienced this, this one is a good example, notice how his hands have a different colour

at first I thought it was a faulty texture from the outfit, but it itsn't, playables are fine

I doubt something this insignificant will attract attention, but you never know
any idea about what could be causing this? it's not dirty cache

Looks like a case of "stuck face".

Not sure if it's safe to take him to a mirror (he's one of the "unsafe" NPCs, see here), but that's one of the things that can fix a face that lags behind after a default skin has been changed.

Possibly if there's a way to fix him without adding him to a family or make him selectable - batbox or some such, maybe?

that's a pretty good idea, don't know why it didn't occur to me before
actually, he's a service NPC with character data on Neighbourhoods directory

it gets confusing, seems like he got an aditional S2 face overlay over a S1 skin (went away after forcing a Change Appearance)
I thought Charlatans were always generated with S2
and I still don't get why this didn't happen before replacements

you actually made me think... this might be a small glitch with Charlatan's initialization
vanilla S1 and S2 are similar to a point where I'm pretty sure this has always happened but didn't notice, not even when I took out my whole Downloads directory

okay, this gets even more confusing
he has S2 DNA so, technically, the game is right giving him a S2 face
but then why does the game forces a S1 when spawned?

I will keep investigating

things are more complex than I thought
the reason why the S2 "overlay" disappeared was because game generated Charlatan's AGED was set to S1 which should not happen since game files' AGED is S2

I found what was causing this and made a fix, thank you

Brilliant! I hope you'll upload it; I notice this with the DJ too.

hello, actually, it's a workaround rather than a fix
it forces the NPC Outfit Object to show S2 instead of S1 since there are at least four Bon Voyage NPCs that seem to be always generated with S2
the gap will be gone until I find an actual fix to open it up to any skintone (for custom NPCs)

so far I found that Charlatan spawn BHAV uses the lightest skintone BCON instead of the medium skintone one (that might explain why his AGED shows S1 but his DNA doesn't), but the others use a different method
the fire dancer is a special case, the default one from Exotic Destinations has the lightest skintone so people with it won't have any gap
but in my testing, if he's not in the game it will generate a new one with S2

I shared it on my Mini Mods thread, I would have liked to do something better but it won't have any side effect if removed
I will test the DJ too, thank you

please let me know if it works without issues (apart from Fire Dancer if you got Exotic Destinations enabled, I shall write it in mod's description)

this is not the outfit your talking about, isn't it? I noticed that happening with the sporty outfit, however DJs do not have a fixed skintone so that outfit will require an actual fix

Yes, mine sometimes go exactly like the third picture, with the different skintone on the face. I do use lots of mods to make NPCs and Townies look different (such as allowing accessories and fatness) so I often get split character files, but it's only the male DJs I notice this issue with.

the black/red male sporty outfit is the faulty one
since DJs don't have a fixed skintone like Charlatans I can't include them in the workaround

the skintone that shows on the face is the true one
the NPC outfit object shows S1 and Black Hair regardless of their actual skintone
just like it happens with the other four NPCs in Bon Voyage that I found

as far as I can tell, split character files happen when a mod modifies a resource in the character template, most of the time it is about BHAVs, Townie Body Diversity and accessory townifiers don't cause this
annoying, but harmless

Oh cool, I always thought it was the appearance mods that caused it (but I do have a load of NPC changing mods too!). Thanks for the info about the Sport outfit, how strange and silly!
