This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default New install - PLEASE PLEASE help i am desperate!
So i just finished installing the game with my discs. Added RPC, then went to graphics rules selected what it suggested. I then went to play and loaded a hood and it was all pink soup. So didnt know where the graphics rules was located i uninstalled and then reinstalled it. fist time it said force texture memory 6200mb and had first 3 boxes ticked and then asked me to select video cards it had geoforce and intel and i selected both. Should i not have selected intel and if so how do i change that? i hadnt even played the game before using graphics rules. I have tried to change back to default settings but it still crashes as soon it goes to load the hood.

Here are my dxidiag and config logs:

What if I installed legacy would that play separate to my disc game? So that I can at least play.

Some people have had success using the GraphicRules file from Legacy, because it has some fixes to known issues (game not recognizing newer cards and such). You can find it here: https://brandinotbroke.tumblr.com/p...phicsrules-from

If you use Nvidia you likely need to add the
"boolProp disableTexMemEstimateAdjustment true" line to avoid pink-flashing/crashing (see here: https://andrevasims.tumblr.com/post/774272340727103488 ).

Haven't personally tried this workaround (had so much trouble with mine, so now it's "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" vibes), but if my game ever causes pink trouble again, I might...

Have you checked your ingame graphic settings?

The black square issue has a fix here: https://modthesims.info/d/569585/sim-shadow-fix.html

(Another workaround is to turn off sim shadows via the GraphicRules file, by setting it to "false" - the line is shown in the link above).

I think I have most of mine set to on or "high", except shadows (off), and the four settings at the bottom (can't remember).

The most important ones for CC to work fine are Sim/Object Detail and Texture Detail (both on high). Without those you'll likely see some problems with CC, but also worse graphics on sims/objects.

- Smooth edges is optional for how much you want to set it to, but the more the smoother everything looks.
- Shadows is optional, but if you use any fixes, they'll tell you whether to leave it on medium or high.
- Reflections is optional, but set to off mirrors won't work (or anything else that has reflections with shaders turned on)
- Graphic effects is somewhat optional, though I think it could affect animated effects.
- "Lighting" is likely best on medium or high (depends if you use a lighting mod, too). Has to do with how much is aftected by the lights and in which directions, such as light through windows outside and whatnots. If this isn't a priority, the "low" setting can probably be used.

The ones at the bottom are optional:
-UI transparency (not 100% sure what this one does - adds transparent backgrounds to some of the UI items like sim portraits and such, maybe)
-snow on ground (snow or not on the ground with light/heavy snow)
-square pixels (helps if you have a widescreen monitor, if everything looks a bit squashed)
-object hiding ("off" shows objects on lower floors, can be heavy on the system)

"High" settings will cause more strain to the system, especially if you also use shaders, so you can adjust a bit here and there if you notice some lag or any other issues after changing the settings. Anything that the game needs to calculate, like light/shadows/reflections, or more pixels/polys/textures, will be a bigger strain.

Thank you so much i will play around with them. Also i had a crapload of CC with my old install, is it safe to add most of it back in and should i do it in batches?

Probably safest to do it in batches. Overloading the Thumbnail files can sometimes cause crashes/pink-flashing, so it's better to not overload the systemin one go.

If you're on a new computer or have a new operating system to work with, the CC amount the game can take could've changed from your previous setup (both for better and for worse).

yeah that's what i'm worried about. It's so overwhelming cause i had so much before and it's hard to start again.

Start with the most important things - mods and defaults, or whichever things you think you can't do without. Then add the rest in batches. If you notice the game is starting to struggle at some point, you know roughly where you need to start cutting (file count/object count/polys/texture sizes/etc.). If the game seems to handle everything fine, you can likely go back to using your original amount.

Hiya, I'm not sure if this is still useful for you, but I've just done mine on disc too, I also have an integrated Intel graphics card and a dedicated Nivida graphics card.

When I used Graphics Rules Maker I only added the Nivida graphics card, I ignored the Intel one.

I also used Empty Standby Memory, I've heard that can fix the pink soup issue.

My thread with a detailed list with instructions is here if you want to have a look https://modthesims.info/showthread....9&cb=1761351731 (it's on Post 6, under the Spoiler button).
