TEXTURE MEMORY SIZE
Textures take up video memory (VRAM), and if there is not enough VRAM, it can cause performance issues or image distortion.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Open the “GraphicsRules.sgr” file with Notepad. You can find it here:
Installation path \ The Sims Medieval \ Game \ Bin
2. At the very beginning of the file, find the lines:

4. To find out your value, press “Win+R” and enter “

5. Enter your “
Display Memory (Video Memory)” value instead of 32. Mine is 3935

After launching the game, the “DeviceConfig.log” file will update automatically.

🔎
VIDEO CARD RECOGNITION
First, you need to help the game recognize your graphics card. Otherwise, you may experience graphical glitches or freezes, especially when increasing reflection quality.
To do this, you need to modify the
GraphicsCards.sgr and
GraphicsRules.sgr files.
⚡
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Find your video card's
Device ID.
2. Open the “
DeviceConfig.log” file with Notepad at the path:
Documents \ Electronic Arts \ The Sims Medieval
3. Press Ctrl + F to open the search bar and type “
Graphics device info”.
4. Find the line that looks like: Chipset: Vendor: 10de, Device:
1f0a, Board: 145c10de, Chipset: 00a1
The ID is highlighted in bold, mine is
1f0a, yours will be different.
5. Open the “
GraphicsCards.sgr” file with Notepad at the path:
Installation path \ The Sims Medieval \ Game \ Bin
6. Press Ctrl + F to search for "vendor "
NVIDIA" (if you have NVIDIA; replace with "AMD" or "Intel" if you have a different card).
7. You will see that your video card is not on the list. Create a new line, specifying the
name and the Device ID you found earlier (follow the format in the screenshot).
8. Close the file, saving the changes.
9. Now, modify the second file. Open the “
GraphicsRules.sgr” file with Notepad at the path:
Installation path \ The Sims Medieval \ Game \ Bin
10. Press Ctrl + F and search for match "
8800”
11. Replace "8800" with
your graphics card's model. I have a GTX 1650, so I entered "1650". This will categorize your card as a high-performance "
uber" card.
12. Close the file, saving the changes.
The “DeviceConfig.log” file will update automatically after you launch the game.

🧹
CACHE CLEANUP
As with other games in The Sims series, clearing the cache in The Sims Medieval can help resolve various performance and gameplay issues.
WHAT IS CACHE PURGE USED FOR?
Cache files are created to speed up game loading. However, over time they can:
Become corrupted → causing lags, crashes, and loading errors.
Take up extra space → slowing down the game.
Conflict with mods → if old cache data isn't updated to reflect new changes.
⚡
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Exit the game completely.
2. Delete these 3 cache files from the following path:
Documents \ Electronic Arts \ The Sims Medieval
CASPartCache.package - cache for created characters.
compositorCache.package - cache for textures and graphics.
simCompositorCache.package - cache for Sims' appearance.
3. You can also delete the contents of the
Thumbnails folder (especially useful if you frequently reinstall mods).
4. Launch the game. New, fresh cache files will be created automatically.
Thank you, I hope you found this guide useful!
And if the game does freeze –
let it be only from epic plot twists! ⚔️
