This user has the following games installed:

Sims 3, World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets, Showtime, Supernatural, Seasons, University Life, Island Paradise, Into the Future
Default Superfluous Gloves Problem
Elsewhere I mentioned a problem I was having with the game giving my sims unwanted gloves when they changed into outer wear. Thanks to CardinalSims I found a partial solution to the problem, but it appears that I have at least one pair of gloves that won't quit. They are the magicians gloves from Showtime, which for some reason are showing twice in CAS.

Since I have Nraas Master Controller installed I right clicked on both sets and it appears they have different instance numbers. Only one set shows up in CASP_Editor, and those I was able to disable for random. But the others are still set as valid for random and my sims are still being given them. There doesn't appear to be any way to either disable them or, preferably, to get rid of them altogether. I still don't understand how I come to have two versions of them. There are also few other duplicated items: they just sit there and don't bother me much, but those gloves do.

I hope I have explained this clearly enough. Anyone got any idea what's going on, and how I can fix it?

EDIT: I ought to have added that in CAS these duplicates only show under outer wear.

Those are weird! I saw that before in CAS, and figured it was something caused by some mod I have.

What you can try, is go into CAS with your Sim, go to outerwear, then to accessories. Scroll to the gloves. Right click on both pairs. This should generate a script error in your Documents> EA> Sims3 folder. If not set already, you can set them to open with notepad. Save that.

Open s3oc, and find the gloves in CAS parts. Oddly, only one is listed. Uncheck the renumber box and save. Open that in s3pe. You can delete everything in the package, except the CASP. Double click, or right click> details, then copy and paste the instance ID from the notepad of the one that only shows for outerwear. Click Grid, at the bottom of s3pe. Open drop arrow for clothing categories, and uncheck valid for random. Save the package and place in your Overrides folder.

Thanks. I thought it might involve something like that. I shall need a quiet hour or two, when I won't be interrupted to work on that, I'll let you know how I get on.

@LadySmoks

Sadly it didn't work

I followed your instructions closely and the file is in my overrides folder. Then I did as before, right clicked on both sets in CAS, and certainly something has changed, because neither of them are marked as valid for random. Yet sims are still being given them whenever I go into outerwear. I just don't understand it.

Are they newly generated Sims, or EA Sims?

They were EA sims. I'll see what happens with my own sims.

It seems to happen with both EA sims and my own. But I have noticed something: neither of the two sets of magician gloves are highlighted as being worn by the selected sim. I clicked on their hands and in one case it was those long elbow gloves (she was wearing long sleeves) and in another case the little panel at the top showed me a blue pair of gloves with hearts on them, although what she was actually wearing were plain red. In fact they are always either red, white or black. Something is seriously confused here - I certainly am.

I think my best policy would be to give each new female sim I create some custom finger nails (which I just happen have ready to hand, so to speak) and which appear to function as gloves. When they have those on the game doesn't change them.

Anyway, thanks all the same for your help. I've learned a bit more about S3PE at any rate.
