Default [SOLVED] TSR Workshop - copying projects without making them replacements
Hello everyone!

I wasn’t really sure how to title this problem, so I’ll try to explain it as clearly as possible.

I wanted to create several decorative objects with mostly the same settings and, in some cases, the same textures, only with differences like mesh rotation or small mesh edits. Because of that, I didn’t want to recreate the entire project from scratch every single time, so I tried copying an existing project and simply replacing the mesh, textures, etc.

However, I ran into the same issue as the person in this thread:
https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=516989

The solution there did technically fix the problem, but now all the objects I created this way seem to behave like replacements. I’m guessing the issue might be related to the project name or internal IDs.

Does anyone know how to properly fix this?
Is it possible to change the project name or IDs in S3PE?
Or is there a correct way to duplicate my own TSR Workshop projects without getting that error message?

Thanks in advance!

I have no idea how an item made in TSRW could act as default, since TSRW renumbers everything it touches. You can try cloning with s3oc, chek to renumber there, then open THAT package in TSRW.

As far as I can tell, TSRW uses a random seed to generate IDs - rather than hashing directly from the project or object name. Once a .wrk file is created, that seed appears to be locked in - so .wrk files shouldn't be reused.
Typically, you should be creating a new project using the finished product as a New Import.

In this case, when the object fails to import there are a couple of options:
  • Sometimes, unticking (or ticking, if it was already) 'Preserve Group ID' in the import options will resolve this.
  • S3OC will most likely be able to clone and renumber successfully. That program hashes from the file name that you choose. If the file still can't open in TSRW, you can S3OC after making your changes to make the object unique.

The problem was that when i wanted to open my finished projects in TSRW and use them as a template for the new one i got error message like person here: https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=516989 and it was with all of my projects for some reason and when i used a solution from that thread my new object acted as a replacement. I guess it copied id from previous file. But i found a solution to just clone them with S3OC although i still dont get why i always get that error message in tsrw.

Ah! Well, as for that error message, you did something TSRW didn't like. I honestly don't know what. Could be howw things are grouped. I also have that issue sometimes. I think TSRW wants .wsos that come from Milkshape?

I do make final HLOD and MLOD in Milkshape with Group 1 and 0 etc. Everything is working fine and TSRW is not giving me any errors while working there. Also my objects work fine in the game. The only issue is when i want to copy them as a new project. I really don't get where it comes from. But i guess i just have to work with that solution and than just duplicate my items with s3oc.

Thank You again for your help!!
