Default Sim portrait thumbnails keep resetting constantly
Hi! I’ve been running into this issue for a while and I’m not really sure what’s causing it.

In the UI, each Sim has their portrait with a specific pose, but in my game those thumbnails keep regenerating constantly. The pose just resets over and over again even when nothing really changes with the Sim.

The problem is that I actually want to keep certain poses for my Sims. I even installed default replacements for portrait poses, but it doesn’t make much difference because the game keeps refreshing the thumbnails anyway, so the pose never stays the same.

I’m currently playing on Sims 2 Legacy, in case that matters.

I know there are some inconsistencies and I suspect I have an idea of what might be causing the issue, but I don’t have a confirmed solution for the Legacy version.

I’ve seen people mention fixes for thumbnail issues in other versions of the game, but I haven’t found anything that works in my case. So I’m not sure if this is a known bug, something caused by a mod, or just how the game behaves on this version.

Has anyone experienced this or knows what might be causing it? And more importantly, is there any way to stop the thumbnails from constantly resetting or at least keep a pose from changing?

Any help would be really appreciated!

This is a new feature in the Apartments or Mansion EPs. There is patch for Mansion EP that reduces the frequency. I have it and could send it to you, but I don't know if you can apply it to this version or need a new patch. The pose still changes when you redress at a wardrobe. This is one reason why I play FreeTime. You can go on forever without the portrait reflecting new clothes.

Ohh that actually makes a lot of sense, thanks for explaining!

I wasn’t completely sure if it was intended behavior or something wrong on my end, so it’s good to know it’s not just my game 😅

That patch you mentioned sounds really interesting, even if it only reduces the frequency. I’d definitely be willing to try it if you’re okay sharing it! I’m not sure if it’ll work with the Legacy version, but I’d like to test it anyway.

In my case it’s a bit weird though, because the thumbnails also seem to regenerate in situations like when a Sim takes a bath, not just when changing outfits. The pose just resets randomly even without any real appearance change, which is what’s been bothering me the most.

Thanks again for the info, this really helps!!

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but i'd be really interested in this mod as well! I use LazyDuchess' mod that stops portrait regeneration but it does not seem to be working in my game, so I am hoping yours does!

I was talking about the same mod to Sims2EP9.exe. I think it was made by one of the "pro" modders (Dizzy) early on and then fell off the internet. I fear that Legacy edition might have a different exe and linking it here would do more harm than good. It is for the vanilla Mansion edition where the problem first appeared.
