Default A more standard/everyday British police uniform
Just going to leave this thread open for now in case someone knows somewhere to get a white police-type uniform shirt with black/navy epaulets and tie. The Victorian-era bobby & sergeant's uniforms that Charity put me onto will work for full "dress" outfits; those haven't changed a whole bunch since that time period. But I'd still like to be able to find a modern, less formal, everyday shirt.

FireAzor uploaded this UK police uniform back in 2007. Supposedly a brand new mesh (for the clothing part) inspired by the Maxis SWAT outfit, this costume has nonetheless never appeared in my clothing catalog [shrug]. The female hats are based on a unisex fedora mesh, and to me look pretty darn close to the real thing; the male ones come from a hat on RoseSims, which I can no longer find; they're a bit weird but would work OK, I think.

The real issue is the clothing portion: I can't recall the EA SWAT outfit, but this one is pretty obviously designed to mimic a typical SWAT uniform. But it's not really what the average copper would be wearing. OK, perhaps in this more dangerous day and age, cops go around in bulletproof vests all the time; at least in the big cities. And never mind that I can't get this outfit to show up in my game; I'm aiming for a more boondocks-y look anyway. Poor PC Joe Penhale (last pic) is currently stuck wearing something handed down from the crew on NYPD Blue. The round-faced gentleman in my second screenshot is more the look I want, even though he's of a quite senior rank. You can also see what the constables on the street are wearing, though: Navy blue trousers, hat, tie and epaulets. White shirt. Short sleeves would be nice. No vest, if at all possible. If actual UK unis don't exist out there, perhaps there's something close. The EA security guard does have a white shirt, but is not otherwise acceptable for this purpose.

And yeah, if anyone knows about the RoseSims mesh, let me know. I thought I'd found it in the Graveyard, but I can't get back to it now. Here's the original lead.

Edit - Ah. Is the original some sort of Nazi hat? Found this on simblr.cc

The Rose mesh downloaded for me using the Wayback Machine. https://web.archive.org/web/2008021...ms2magic_17.htm

I have the SWAT style uniform and it doesn't need a mesh. It's based on a Maxis mesh.

Sorry, Charity - I was in the process of editing my post when your reply came through.

SO... Turns out I do have all the necessary meshes for the FireAzor outfit. I was going through the catalog one more time, and I'm thinking: wait a sec - I have the military caps already, so I must already have that mesh. It was just a matter of scrolling through too fast: on the men's side, it was right next to the other recolors of the Rose one. And... the FireAzor SWAT uniform is right alongside the EA one (I just unlocked all the career outfits recently). So that's all settled. The hats look okay, even if the meshes they're based on are weirdly-shaped: The man's hat sits too far up on the head, and the woman's too far forward. I had to do plastic surgery and raise the Sim's face up for the man's one to look less goofy. It warped the hat a bit in the process, but it's a little better now IMO.
However, I'm getting the thing where it flashes blue upon leaving and re-entering a lot, and I have to remove it and put it back for it to behave normally. This is true for a few earrings and other hats in my game, too - as I understand it, the issue is something within the mesh itself, correct? Anybody feel like taking a peek at it to see if it's something obvious that could be fixed? I believe the woman's hat mesh works just fine, even if whoever made the original fedora couldn't get it positioned correctly... see new screenshots.

So I guess ignore all that about the outfits not showing up. They're there, but if anyone knows of something that looks a little more like the UK standard cop uniform, please let me know. I switched PC Penhale into the Maxis security guard outfit. The pants are the wrong color, and it's not very cop-like, but at least the shirt is white. With the hat, he's passable for now. Anyone want to add epaulets and a tie to that shirt (sorry, that sounded like a request, didn't it)?

THANK YOU, Charity, for the bobby helmet! I believe these days they're mostly worn by constables in touristy or historic areas: central London, that kind of thing. But it's a great addition for my game. I don't know how you guys find these things; I've been looking for one of those for a while. On PBK they have a prostrating-one's-self-in-gratitude smilie. I'd use it in this situation if it were available.

edit: Dang it, now you've given me a new website full of stuff to download. Curses!

I only found it because I was looking for NPC default replacements for my Victorian hood and someone had made a default of the whole uniform I linked you to.

The flashing blue accessories is most likely caused by missing resources in either the recolor or mesh file. As you've figured out, you can temporarily fix it ingame by taking the sim to a mirror (Change Appearance). I think the Batbox has an option to fix it, too.

Accessories can be permanently fixed with SimPE: https://modthesims.info/t/283059 - subset names and number of subsets have to match in the Mesh Overlay (recolor file), SHPE, GMND and GMDC (mesh file). On occasion something else is wrong in the files, but most often it's a missing mesh part, fixed like shown in the tutorial (or by removing all rererences to unwanted subsets, which is a bigger job).
