Default Sim will not go to work
New game in Sunlit Tides. My sim, with a part time job at the grocery, invited another sim to move in, they "work" at the science lab ...but they never go to work. The notice appears that their car pool will be there in an hour, but it never appears, the timer counts down to 1 hour then resets to 1 day. If I tell that sim to go to work there's a message that it isn't time. I had them quit the job then reapply the next day, they still don't go to work. Had them quit and take a different job, they don't go to that one either. (They do not have "mooch" trait, so can't blame it on that. They did add $16k to our house funds, so we're OK financially, even after adding two rooms to the house and getting better kitchen appliances and shower.)

Looked this up online and found several mentions of this issue; all referenced going to City Hall>NRAAS>MC>Sim and select "Fix HomeWorld". I have no such option. (Debugenabler is also installed, and appears in menu.)

So ...how how does Razberri (named after a friend in an online game) get her roommate to go to work?

I think that's a glitch that's been around for a while.

Have you tried changing the career outfit? That seems to be the culprit here.

Another one seemed to solve it by going to Edit Town, evict the household, then put them back in.

I think you meant City Hall > NRAAS > Debugenabler (not MC) > Fix Homeworld

Yes, it was debug -

" I had this exact issue and for me, what fixed it was nraas debug enabler It happens when you add household members through nraas.
Click on the city hall > Nraas > Debug enabler > City hall options (or something like that) > Sim > Fix homeworld

The issue should be resolved"

Though I didn't add the sim via NRAAS, I met them at a festival and later invited them (oddly they didn't show up til a couple of sim-days later, when they suddenly ran in the front door and started cooking).

My debugenabler menu is -

The only option with a submenu is the Tron computer, but no "fix homeworld" anywhere -

I'll try those other options.

On the NRAAS FAQ for Debug Enabler, the function is recommended for glitches reloading the world after traveling. One of the glitches experienced is inactives not going to work, so this is probably not what's going on with your game since you said it's a new save. And your inactives are still going to work?

My Homeworld is all messed up after getting back from a vacation

On occasion when loading up the homeworld after a vacation, the game doesn't load the homeworld properly. Some effects are; inactive Sims not going to work, carpool system broken, not getting mail and other various problems.

Whenever you arrive back from a vacation destination use:
CityHall / Computer > NRaas > DebugEnabler > Options: CityHall / Computer > Sim > Fix Homeworld

This usually corrects any errors during the loading of your homeworld.

Still, I'm puzzled that you don't get the option at all. Are you sure you have the latest version? Maybe redownloading might help with that.

I grabbed all the NRAAS stuff recently and just put it in on top of what I already had, about half were replaced with newer versions. (Recently returned to the game after a ten year absence ...after finding a full backup of the "documents/sims3" folder on an old HD; the save games were all dated summer of '16. But this issue is on a new game started a couple of weeks ago.)

Everything else in this world is working more or less normally, my main sim catches the carpool to work every day; other sims seem to be carrying on their lives as usual; it's only this one that moved in with me that refuses to go to work (they do everything else I tell them, have maxed logic skill, working on athletics now, expressed interest in cooking).

Their job was at the science center. I had them quit, wait a couple of sim-days and go take the job again (I cleared the caches first). Still no carpool, and can't send them to work manually.

Had them quit again, wait a couple of days, and take a different job (education). No carpool.

Changed their career clothing set. No difference.

So they quit that job and now have no job. The game recognizes this, they are on the "unemployed" list now.

I am hesitant to try the "scorched earth" solution of evicting both from the house, copy the house to the library, demolish the lot, replace the lot, copy the house back, then have both sims occupy it again. My understanding is this will wipe out opportunities, wishes, relationships, etc. so it will be starting over except the sims will have their skills. I wonder if having the new sim move into their own house for a couple of days then returning might clear this lunacy (with my luck it will exacerbate it).

I don't think it can make it worse. I would hope

Ok, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the rabbit hole, nor the career clothing.

Maybe you don't need to do a whole 'scorched earth' approach. Go to Edit Town, evict the family, go into the house, go into build/buy and do something there, come back to Edit Town and put the family back in.
If you want to try moving the lot in the library, etc., you can redo the relationships, careers, etc. via Master Controller. I think you will need its cheats module for that, though.

Other ideas:
Activate another family via Master Controller for a bit. It retains most of the elements from your original and then go back.
Assign the career via Master Controller.

Was the sim you moved in a service or role sim of some kind? Like a bartender? It shouldn't create problems but you never know.
So, you could move them out, play them by themselves for a bit and see if you can get them employed before they move back into your main household.

I think the sim in question, Tamara Dong, is an immigrant. There is no default character by that name in Sunlit Tides, but the Dong surname recently appeared in one of my games in Twinbrook (and down the street from me in Sunset Valley is now the Pleasant-Dong family). She had the job at the science center when we met, a few sim-weeks before I invited her to move in.

The eviction/remodel option is interesting, adding a second floor was under consideration (given the size of the lot that's the only direction in which they can build). Where do they go when evicted? Must the eviction last a certain time before moving them back in?

They stay in the clipboard (make sure to evict them without the house) until you either move them back, or move them into another house. I wouldn't do a whole remodel, just in case you get a crash while remodeling. That might disappear your family. Just add a chair, go back into Edit Town, and move the family back from the clip board.

Out of curiosity, if you evict a sim, save and exit, and return later, are they gone? or standing somewhere in town homeless?

Isn't traveling part of the WA EP? If so it isn't relevant to my game; the only EPs I've ever used (and the only ones currently installed) are Ambitions, Seasons, and Generations. I assume Tamara is my only "inactive" in this game, I'm just playing her and my main sim, and it seems all the NPCs are behaving.

I'm fairly certain they would be gone if you don't put them in the bin or in a house.

I return with good news - Tamara is now working. Thanks for the input. Nothing seemed to fit my situation exactly, though the common denominator seemed to be if Tamara was in that household she wouldn't go to work.

So I had Tamara move out and buy her own place. A couple of sim-days later there's an SP notice that she has taken a job at the science center (she allegedly already had a job there). No idea if she was actually going to work since I wasn't now controlling her. Over the next couple of sim-weeks Razberri remodeled her home (she wanted to buy a different house but another sim beat her to it, and I didn't want to use "god mode" and evict them) and continued her friendship with Tamara, but never got an option to invite her to move in again. Eventually they married, Tamara sold her house and moved back in, and now goes to work (though I must watch her like a hawk since she's prone to come home early).
