Default Questions regarding how the game handles bisexuality and gender preference
Hi everyone! I don't have much experience posting anything on here so please forgive me if I mess anything up!

I had a question about how the game handles gender preference, more specifically how it handles bisexuality. I know this has been a discussion since the game came out and there are mods out there that try to make the game more effectively take bisexuality into account. I've been playing the game for years but am somewhat new to using DeeDee-Sims' No Bi Gender Preference Decrease which makes it so a sim's preference for one gender does not decrease even if said sim is predominantly romancing the other gender. As far as I'm aware, the mod works great and I've had no issues with it, but because of how the game handles gender preference I've run into an issue.

My issue is that in my current game Dustin Broke, who is bi in my save, cannot spoon/cuddle with his husband in bed like most couples do in game. I thought this was odd because I couldn't recall having this happen before unless the two sims didn't have a very good relationship with one another. Knowing how the game has some issues handling bisexuality, as well as how DeeDee's mod works, I then wondered if it was because Dustin is bi and may have a "higher attraction" to women because he was romantic with only women for some time and the relationship with his husband is more recent. I checked in SimPE and that ended up being the case. To fix this issue with his husband I know I can just tweak the number, and they should be able to cuddle. It made me curious though and I was looking for the behavior functions that would affect spooning ("Sleep - Spoon?") and saw that it referenced "Gender Preference - Accept Romance?" (screenshots and folder with files attached). I'm very familiar with SimPE when it comes to tweaking minor things, but don't have a great understanding of behavior functions. My modding question is would this spooning/cuddling issue be fixed by bypassing the gender preference check in the "Sleep - Spoon?" function? From my understanding, it would then avoid that check and just go to checking the relationship between the two people sleeping.

Secondly, I also was looking at the "Gender Preference - Accept Romance?" function itself and saw that it appears to check if a sim has a preference of above zero for one gender but then goes onto check if that preference is greater than the sim's preference for the other gender. I think this is the root of the problem I had with Dustin and his husband, that although he's bi, his numerical preference for women is currently higher than that for men. Since that's the case, it's as though this behavior, which is used in the "Sleep - Spoon?" function, is reading him as straight in this case. Would there be an easy way to change this or would it not be wise to mess with this behavior function that I imagine is referenced by other behaviors?

I would greatly appreciate any insight!

It's hard to see exactly what "Gender Preference - Accept Romance?" is up to as the nodes are all muddled up - the sort button is really handy for that. I had a look myself, and it does look like that's what's happening.

Changing "Gender Preference - Accept Romance?" would probably be the most efficient way to fix it, as it would also fix any other cases where this is used. The fix would be updating each node that says Stack Object's Gender Pref - Male (or Female) >= Literal 0 to return True instead of continuing on to A or B.

Just a warning, as you're updating a global BHAV, adding the mod to your game may reset your neighbourhood.

I don't think this particular behavior is a function of sexual preference or ambiguity.

I have several new families I recently made in Legacy Edition that are perfectly straight, the spouses have 3 bolts of attraction, and they still don't spoon in bed exept after Woohoo. It's weird, because spouses I made in my original 'hood (which I ported to LE) have no problem and spoon always. Indeed, I have couples from the old 'hood where one of the spouses swings both ways freely, and still spoons with her husband; and couples from my old hood where one spouse actually prefers her own gender and still spoons with her old man, even though there are no bolts of attraction between them. So I figure it is just Maxis/EA weirdness.

I always forget there's a sort button that certainly makes it much easier to read! For the moment I only edited the Sleep - Spoon function to skip the gender preference check and Dustin and his husband are now able to spoon! I might try the Gender Preference - Accept Romance global another time. Thank you for looking at it, it will be an easy edit to do!

I wonder if the coding is different in the Legacy version. I'm playing with the UC and I think all of my couples spoon while sleeping and often cuddle when they wake up together if they're in love or have a high relationship with one another. I think the spooning function by default doesn't always account for both sims' preferences which may lead to inconsistencies. I use midgethetree's Romantic Standards and one of the fixes addresses "unrejectable socials" including spooning. That's the file I ended up editing in my case. I think the mod makes the game check whether both sims have crush/love/attraction to each other rather than just one of them.
