Default Collage Questions
Hey there,

I have a very important question!

I’m playing with two teenage girls, and they’ve been married to each other since their first day. They already have one child together.

Now, however, they both want to go to college, and from what I understand, there are major restrictions for couples there.

Only one girl can sleep in the rooms. : (But they always sleep together in the marital bed.

Even if a large bed would fit in the rooms, there’s the problem with the door signs. You can’t make them accessible to two Sims.

What can I do about this? And what happens to the child they have together?

If these problems can be solved, then here’s the next question:

How is it possible to expand the family while at college—meaning pregnancy, having a child, etc.? And I don’t want either of them to age while they’re in college.

You don't have to use a dorm, they can live in a house together (private residence) in the college hood. Vanilla gameplay has you moving sims in one by one, but other than that it's much the same as them living together on a regular residential lot in the main hood.

You also need to make sure the mods you use allow for teens to grow up (and move around) without losing their relationships. If they want to bring their kids, the mods also need to allow this. If you already have a mod that allows for teen/YA pregnancy (which you probably have), it likely also allows for family life on the college lot, but you'll want to make sure (here is why it's important to read about the mods you use).

The mod I've linked below lets you move YA sims and their families. Not sure about other mods - I Vaguely remember Inteen allowing for college pregnancy/family on some areas, but being a pain in the butt for everything surrounding it, so if that's the one you have for teen pregancy, you might have to move sims in one by one, and possibly use a summoner or some such - I don't know if it's compatible with the one below (Inteen is infamous for being incompatible with stuff).

I can't guarantee this one is compatible with whatever teen pregnancy mod you have, so make sure to check:

YA sims don't age while in college, unless you use a mod that lets them age. The college progression is their "age", and they normally turn into adults after they graduate (and move back to the main hood), unless you use a mod to change this. Sims of other ages are going to age, but if you don't want that to happen, you can use the "aging off" cheat.

Gameplay doesn't require you to move them in singly! There's two ways to get a teen into college. One is to use the phone, and only one sim can go per phone call, but you can then move them both into the same house to make one household. The other is to use the phone to get your scholarships (otherwise you won't have enough money for a residence), then save and go to the college neighborhood screen. In the HUD in the lower left corner there's a "send sims to college" icon. Click that, and you'll get a pop-up list of all the college-eligible teens in the neighborhood. Choose the ones you want for this household and when you accept the household they'll move into the Family Bin. Move that household in normally and they will grow to adult when they arrive on the lot.

Either way, they will not be able to bring the child with them, since the phone only takes one sim and "send sims to college" only allows you to pick teens. You'll need to use a teleporter or an editing tool to move the kid in.

They will not lose their relationship when moved in, they will only lose love tags. You can restore those immediately by having them flirt with each other. They should remain married because the game doesn't think to check that tag; I have two sims in college right now who got engaged as teens through the SimsCave beer keg and they were still engaged when they arrived.

If for some reason you want them to live in a dorm (I don't recommend it if they have the kid with them, but you're not me), some of the dorms have space for a double bed in some of the rooms, though you'll probably have to take out everything else in it. They'll both have to claim a door, but unless the door is locked anyone can come in use the items in the room. The only reason to lock the door is to keep other sims from wandering in and fall asleep in their bed, but it's easy to shoo a dormie out. Having two rooms could even be a boon, as the kid could then use the second room's bed and gain the use of whatever's moved out to accommodate the bed.

You can also make your own dorm, which would involve building a multi-sim residence with the Myne doors and then changing the lot zoning to Dorm. You could then build a dorm with a full suite of rooms for a family and put two doors on it, one for each YA sim in the family.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.
