It's just numbers

On and off over my 2 years (yes, 2 years this month!) of creating for the game, I've gone though ups and downs looking at the numbers. I still never know what is really going to be the most popular, and sometimes things start off slowly and get more recognition over time.

I just passed 500,000 downloads - big number, and I noticed. I threw confetti and cake around the chatroom when it happened.

But the numbers are just that, numbers. Even the feature count is just numbers. Not to say I'm not glad that I have a 3 features, one of which is a big group project. It's nice to see download counts and thanks counts go up. It's nice to finally have a couple of features. (I had 50 uploads before my first feature)

But what's more important is the nice notes I got - and the experience I had making the objects. As I was just looking over my collection here on site, I remember - I remember working on my textures, trying to make things more realistic, getting tips from others, and learning new things in photoshop. I remember my excitement when lethe posted the banners and beds and I worked on recoloring them - the accomplishment of looking at the new whatever it is I made in game. I can still get the 'wow, cool *I* made that' feeling when I am viewing the finished item in game - because the transition from the flat graphic where I'm pushing pixels around to the finished item is huge. Every time someone recolors one of my meshes and makes them new again, I get a little fuzzy feeling. I also feel happy when I can help someone else get their own creations working, which is totally separate from anything on my downloads or thanks counts.

It's all in the sharing - of our knowledge, of our talents, and learning - that makes this fun and worthwhile.

As with lamammaforever, I work with numbers every day as well and I enjoy the challenge of interpreting them but I have to agree with you that what's even better is the community aspect of the game. As you say It's all in the sharing - of our knowledge, of our talents, and learning - that makes this fun and worthwhile.

Thanks for sharing your philosophy and your talents with us.

Thanks for sharing your creations with all of us, and congrats on the 500 000
I have only spent about a few months creating, and what I thought would be temporary is turning out to be something I enjoy even more than playing the actual game.
Thanks to the people and friendly atmosphere here at MTS2 I have learned a great deal and I´m still learning how to be better. It´s the attitude of people like yourself that have helped me, and that´s one of the reasons I keep coming back. Thank you and keep it up

Congrats on the 500,000 - and more so for the patience and willingness to help that you have shown since day one. People in this community appreciate you more than you could ever guess.

Here's to the next 500,000 - keep up the good work.

Hey, I deal with numbers every day for my job and I agree with you, numbers are only numbers, it needs a human being behind them for interpreting the real meaning of a negative and even of a positive score. However, the numbers of downloads and thanks that you have talk by themselves. Very good stuff, that others like to use in game and recolor.
A lot of members here would have your talent and skills (and thank you for encouraging all of us to learn and practice, as far as myself, I'm a desperate case), but you have also a nice thouch in creating, something that is not so easy to find.
Thanks!!! Kiss and ciao.
Hey thanks

Hey, half a mil, Way to go tiggerypum!

I appreciate all that you have done for the sims 2 community, the tutorials, the sharing of custom contents, probably there are many more things you did to help out that I don't know about! I am dropping it to say thank. Glad I caught the half a mil mark! (although its more now).

THANKS!

First, 500,000 downloads is nothing to sneeze at! Except for me as I got a cold from my vacation. I love the fact that you have shared that you have 50 uploads before you got a feature. That makes me feel like less of a loser and gives me hope.

Second, thanks for the welcome back! I enjoyed my nephews very much. Little kids are always so funny, especially when they don't mean to be.

Congrats on the number Tig!
'course they are not the most important... but hey, they mean that all those people, around the world, with so different lives and tastes, all agreed on one thing: your work was worth having on their games. And THAT is something.

I also would like to join Echo in thanking you for all your help and patience, always, all the time. "The nice mod"... that's a great title, no?

They're quite nice numbers though. I have to agree with you though, the numbers are good, but the real rewards come when you see someone post something based on your content, or created using a tutorial you wrote, or even just seeing something in game that looks awesome and knowing it's yours. Thank you for providing all your wonderful content, the vital tutorials, and your ceaselessly patient help. Now you can start the count down to a million downloads! :D

Aww Khakidoo - it's easy to lose sight of what we've learned, friends we've made, the experience as a whole - when we focus in on the numbers, or if we get featured or not. So I got the urge to write about it. I have it happen too.
