I think some of the base game houses are a little tacky and need to be fixed up.
This is the Pleasant House that came with the base game. It is totally renovated, expanded and remodeled.

Someone of Daniel Pleasant's fame needed a better house
Anyway...It is a nice house even if you move some other Sims in. It is fully furnished except for the 2 extra bedrooms
