The Magnolia - Sears Modern Homes 1915-1920: Furnished or Unfurnished

This is from the lovely online archive of Sears Modern Homes floor plans. The Sears Modern Homes were basically mail-order houses; you would receive the materials and plans and build the house yourself. The archive stretches from 1908 to 1940 so it can be pretty interesting to look through them and see the changing styles over the years.

This particular house, the Magnolia, is a virtual mansion for Sears (and for me). I'm not used to doing such lavish homes, but I couldn't pass this up. I really wanted it to have the charm of an old genial Southern manor house. It has some unique features that make it pretty interesting, including a "Romeo and Juliet" balcony, a secret attic, and a servant's bedroom with a separate hidden staircase leading up from the pantry.


Clockwise: Sears catalog floor plan, first floor, second floor, attic.

Clockwise: Sears catalog illustration, living room, pantry/kitchen, dining room.

Clockwise: Teen bedroom, sleeping porch, nursery, attic.

There are two different versions of this lot included here: Furnished and Unfurnished. Make sure you check the file name so that you get the one you want. I didn't include pictures of the unfurnished version because it looks completely identical to the furnished version, except of course without furnishings.

1936 Opel Kadett by Fresh-Prince. This is a beautiful car, and it's a perfect time frame to match up with this house! I think they look great together, so I would definitely recommend downloading it.
