It should also be apparent that I need to update the outline of what each file does and how. It's forthcoming; I just figure it's better if I actually do the mod first and focus on the documentation afterward.
Notice January 10th, 2026: We're back, bay-bee! I should have this mod up and running again in a few days. Looks like the inclusion of the Fairy race broke it... and I don't really know what fairies can and can't do, so I'm going to buy the xpac tonight and see if perhaps there's some modifications to be made for child fairies as well! Please stay tuned.
Notice November 1st, 2024: I just learned today that Sims 4: Life and Death dropped. Without owning it and without looking at the code I'm already quite sure that it's going to break this mod into a hundred pieces, because they've undoubtedly added "ghost" as a species, which is going to impact all of these files.
Going to be a few weeks before I can afford to buy the xpac, then the actual fix shouldn't take too long. The good news is, depending on what's going on under the hood, I can probably get ghosts to manifest as children and teens as well.
Notice February 5th, 2024: I have updated the mod that handles both vampires and spellcasters, all I changed was the base file and so far my playtesting hasn't yielded any issues. Please test and let me know if you run into any. I will update the vamp-only and spellcaster-only versisons in the coming weeks, based on received feedback.
Notice January 27th, 2023: I'm currently looking at the mod to see if the new high school expansion damaged it in any way. Also, bad news, the mermaids are done differently from the vampires and spellcasters in a way that completely bakes them into the game's engine core. So I'm putting them aside for awhile. Once I'm sure the mod isn't broken, I'll turn to werewolves - though I know the werewolves expansion *already* has some unique stuff for kiddos, so I need to play the game normally and see what's what before I go too deep into changes.
Notice June 25th, 2022: Version 0.7 is released! Note that there are now THREE versions of the mod to download; one that impacts only vampire kiddos, one for spellcaster kiddos, and one that works on both. The spellcaster kids seem to be doing fine, but as always, if anyone runs into issues of any kind, please leave me a comment and let me know so that I can fix it.

Notice June 19th, 2022: I'm expanding! Version 0.6 is my reskin of the original mod, updated for the Werewolves patch. But it still only affects vampires... there are little mermaids/mermen, spellcasters and werewolves just crying and howling out to be free too! Over the next few months, I'll release first spellcasters (0.7), then merfolk (0.8), and finally the werewolves (0.9).

- Her KidsCanPerformSpellMagic module conflicts with the spellcaster side of my module. Basically just about any package in my module with an S in it.
- I had no idea anyone else was doing spellcaster kiddos, and there's a lot of interesting things I can say about her take versus mine. I tried playing with her mod for a bit today, and I'll be honest, at first I was concerned that it might just be flat-out better. She solved the kid stretching animation problem (something I didn't even know was possible!) and that does make her contribution more visually appealing. What she didn't do, however, was provide any access to the perks menu or unlock the ability to travel to the Magic Realm with the glimmerstone. She seems to just be relying on the practice magic effects to eventually unlock use of the spells that you learn on their own.
- Interestingly - and I admit that I haven't tested it - both of those things occur only in my base file, which I expected to find about a dozen conflicts with her mod that I was worried would also impact the little plasmasucker kids. But they aren't there. That means that in theory, if you download the VS package and ONLY use my base (with her mod replacing the remaining S files), you potentially get the best of both worlds. Only side effect would be that you lose the ability to drink potions, which is a stated limitation of her mod but I believe works in mine. Personally, I'd probably consider that a pretty minor tradeoff for the coolness of non-stretching spellcaster kids.
This mod is divided into multiple segments, each of which accomplishes the following:
V-Base
- Vampire Children now have the following vampire characteristics:
- Vulnerability to Sunlight (including ability to die by sunlight exposure)
- Hunger, Bladder and Energy Needs Removed
- Thirst Need Added
- Vampire Energy Bar Added
- Need to Drink Plasma in order to Replenish Thirst
- Vampires now age through Young Adult and Adult stages to Elder.
- Vampire children can now drink plasma packs and eat plasma fruit to restore Thirst.
V-NPCs
- All NPC Vampire Archetypes can now appear at any age from child through elder.
V-Powers
- Child Vampires can now sleep in coffins and perform Dark Meditation to replenish Vampire Energy.
- Through a notification button that appears when children perform Dark Meditation, they can purchase powers and use those powers once purchased.
V-Feeding
- Child Vampires can now feed on other sims (age Child through Elder) to restore Thirst.
- Vampires who feed on other sims are restored to the beginning of their age category, as though they'd drunk a Potion of Youth. This means that a ritual plasma fruit/plasma pack diet is required to advance to the next age category.
- All Manifested vampires can now feed on human children.
V-Turning
- Child Vampires with the appropriate turning power can turn others into vampires, same as their older counterparts.
- All vampires with the appropriate turning power can turn human children into vampires.
S-Base
- Child Spellcasters can now use the "Practice Spellcasting" actions and learn spells. The base mod doesn't allow them to cast the spells they've learned, but they do still earn XP, giving them a head start on their magical education.
- The "Open Spellbook" interaction no longer functions as intended. Instead, it opens a notification button with the spellcaster's picture. Clicking on that picture will open the spellcaster perks menu, and the spellbook can be opened from there.
- Child Spellcasters can now use their Glimmerstone to enter the Magic Realm.
S-Dueling
- Child Spellcasters can now duel and be dueled by all other manifested spellcasters, including other children.
S-Potions
- Child Spellcasters can experiment with cauldrons, learn Alchemy recipes, and make potions.
- I'm not really sure what else they can do. Have I mentioned I need beta-testers?

- Adults can now use the Science Table to make basic kid potions. Turnabout is fair play.
S-Spells
- Child Spellcasters can now cast all spells that they have learned, except for love spells.
- Magical and nonmagical children can now be targets of all spells, and can be cursed by spell failure. (Sorry kiddos, fair is fair.) This does not apply to love spells.
S-Lovespells
- Child Spellcasters can now cast love spells as well. They cannot, however, be targeted by them.
S-Powers
- Child Spellcasters can benefit from the purchase of perks.
- Child spellcasters can be injured and killed by Charge Overload.
- Child spellcasters of sufficient level have access to the Rites of Ascension and Dissolution.
General Known Issues:
- As is often the case when child sims do adultish things, their legs have a tendency to stretch out really long.
- The Vampire UI for children doesn't show XP or the button to purchase powers/weaknesses. The current workaround is to perform Dark Meditation and click the button in the notification that appears.
- The Spellcaster UI for children doesn't show XP or the button to purchase perks. The current workaround is to select Open Spellbook and click the button in the notification that appears.
- Created vampire children do not get the bat form.
- Child Vampires don't seem to have a Dark Form that differentiates from their normal form anymore. I think this is because the CAS age-gate moved into the Flash scripting files. It's actually kinda neat, there's nothing more bizarre than watching a child vampire in a bear costume feed on someone.[/U][/B]

Changelog:
- We FINALLY have a workaround that allows vampire children to spend their XP and take powers and weaknesses. This is accomplished by the child going through Dark Meditation, which generates a notification in the top-right of the screen with a clickable button that will open the Vampire powers dialogue.
- Bonus days for Vampire Elders decreased from 500% to 100%. Way too many old vampires running about.
- The age cycle reset from feeding on other sims has been removed for now. I'm planning on extending the vampire lifespan in some less drastic way in a future release; this was making it pretty much impossible to age up.

So it turns out that manually aging up vampires didn't work the way I thought it did. So I tweaked it to get the experience I was looking for:
- Vampires - of all ages - are now subjected to natural aging the same way as everyone else.
- Vampires who drink the plasma of another sim have their aging process reset back to the beginning of the stage, as though they had just drank a Potion of Youth.
- A 500% increase of "Bonus Days" has been added to those with the Manifested Vampire trait.
The practical effects of this are that if you play without autoaging, you can now manually age up your vampire whenever you want. If you play WITH autoaging, you have to make a concentrated effort to age up your sim - he or she has to quit sim drinking cold turkey and go with plasma packs and plasma fruit for the entire duration of their current age category.
If you're into roleplaying, you could call this a ritual fast in order to attain some kind of elevated status.
Version 0.7
- Released 1/30/17 (Figures I'd crack it right after releasing 0.5.2)
- Vampire Children can now feed on the living. Tastes like chicken!
- Human Children, conversely, can now be victims of vampire bites. It looks particularly gruesome when an adult vampire feeds on one, because where they'd normally grab an adult victim's waist, instead they wind up wringing the kid's neck.
- Vampire children can turn others into vampires, and human children can be turned. (Bugged; Human Children couldn't be turned until 0.7.8)
- Vampire children can now practice Dark Meditation.
- Vampire children can drink cocktails of sun resistance, as well as the vampire cure. Hey, it may be alcoholic, but it's also life and (un)death.
- Fake vampire wannabes now come in all ages from Child through Adult.
- Vampire children can now get vampire-related whims.
