Fundoshi - Yes, it's a Japanese man-thong

Hi people! I'd like to introduce my very first creation, the fundoshi. I've done all the texturing on the GIMP (I'm weaned off Photoshop!) and alphaing on Paint.NET.

A fundoshi is a 5 foot cloth intricately wrapped around the waist area in a variety of twists and turns and loop-de-loops to form what looks like a man-thong. It lost steam when the Japanese were introduced to boxers and briefs, but recently it gained popularity when it was featured in a random quiz show in Japan. So they came up with patterned designer fundoshi. However, the most commonly used colors are red and white.

Japanese businessmen believe that fundoshi is "power underwear", underwear that is said to increase performance at work. Kids wear it when learning to swim so their parents can simply grab the kid by the fundoshi when they get in trouble. Fundoshi are most commonly worn during matsuri (festivals) while carrying portable shrines in what they call a "cleansing ritual". Then they go mud wrestling. The sight isn't the most pleasant in the world, but that's what they do.
