MTS Staff Notice: This mod has been updated for Late Night (1.17). You can find the updated version here.

NOTE This does not work with any expansion pack. If you have it installed with any expansion pack, all plants and ingredients will disappear. DO NOT SAVE, uninstall the mod, and your plants and ingredients will reappear. I'm fairly sure this is because WA puts in new plants which are not included in my mod's XML tuning file. However, I do not have time and Will Not Fix this. Hence you should only use this mod in the base game.

The Sims 3 ONLY
NO EXPANSIONS ARE SUPPORTED

Notice how Roasts and Links are the only ingredients that cannot be anything but "normal" quality? All other ingredients are either plantable, and thus subject to the sim's gardening skills, or fishable, and thus subject to a sim's fishing skill. But not Roasts nor Links.

With this mod, Roasts and Links are plantable just as Steaks and Patties are.
Update (7/11/09): There plants now have proper names. There is now a "forever" version.

There are two types with two versions each. The types are Opportunities and Forever:
With Opportunities:
This leaves opportunities intact for the current ingredients (you need to complete "Uncommonly Good" to get Cheese and Eggs and "Outstandingly Rare" to plant Steaks and Patties.)
Roasts and Links are added into the same "Outstandingly Rare" opportunity so that they can be planted with their "meaty" brethren.
Without Opportunities:
This completely removes opportunities as a prerequisite, and is the real reason I created this mod. While I am fine with the requirement to complete opportunities, losing the ability to plant steaks just because I switched active households is not acceptable. Thus, I removed the opportunity requirement. With this mod, Eggs, Cheese, Steaks, Patties, Links, and Roasts may all be planted at Gardening level 7, when "Special" seeds (such as Money Tree, Death Flower, and Life Fruit) may be planted. Omni plants may also be planted without the opportunity, but Omni Seeds must still be ordered by someone who has completed the "The Omnificent Plant" opportunity.
Normal Length:
All plants remain at normal amount of harvestables, with the new Links and Roasts producing the same amount as Steaks and Patties.
Forever:
This makes it so that all plants survive forever, including the new Roasts and Links. Even Death Flowers will "never" become barren. This only prevents plants from becoming barren, they can still die from neglect and Death Flowers will die every time they are harvested. However, once revived they will "never" become barren.
"Never" actually means Int16.Max, or 32,767 harvestables. The Money Tree was already at 10,000 and no one seems to have ever had a barren Money Tree.

Issues:
You may need to buy new ingredients to get the new features, particularly if you have previously installed other mods that changed how ingredients were handled.
It appears that the game will allow ingredients saved when not affected by a mod will not save parameters and therefore update when the mod is added.
However, if the ingredient is saved while affected by a mod, it saves the parameters so any other mods don't affect those ingredients.
This has been my observation so far. It may or may not be how the game actually works.
If your ingredients don't seem to be working and they should, try going to the grocery store and buying some new ones.

This overrides a pair of XMLs pertaining to plants and ingredients. This will conflict with any mod relating to these files.
Update: This should conflict with "The Cooking And Ingredients Overhaul mod", "Planting Burger...etc without opportunities" (see Option 2) and "More Harvestables + longer life". Should NOT conflict with "Children can garden mod" or "Gardening is fun mod" since the XMLs I have overridden do not pertain to who can garden or how fun it is, but I make no guarentees.

If you remove the package file, the plants will remain on any lots they have been planted in, and will continue to function. No new link or roast plants can be planted, however. In such a case the text for the plants should read as "**** Gameplay/Excel/Plants/PlantList:TurkeyPlant ****" and "**** Gameplay/Excel/Plants/PlantList:HotDogPlant ****" because the string table isn't saved with the object.

Additional Credits:
Of course thanks to the creator of S3PE and Postal, and BlackCat007 for pointing out how to fix the missing strings problem.
