There are a number mods and fixes related to music, dance and instruments on this page.

Instrument Watch Mod: When sims initiate the Watch interaction towards another sim who is playing an instrument (including the Apartment Life microphone), they react depending on their relationship towards the instrument player, their mood, and the instrument player's Creativity skill. However, their relationship does not change towards the instrument player. In Sims 1, sims would receive a relationship decrease if the instrument player had low Creativity skill, and an increase in relationship if the Creativity was high. Also, when sims watch karaoke singers, they do get a relationship increase/decrease, but the game also increases/decreases the singers' relationship towards the audience which I don't like. So, this mod does the following:
- When sims dislike the instrument player, they will receive -1 to STR.
- When sims like the instrument player, they will receive +2 to STR if they react very positively, and +1 to STR if they react mildly positively.
- Karaoke singers won't receive a relationship change towards their audience.
- The Apartment Life Microphone object had a problem which prevented visitors to a lot from interacting with it autonomously, so this has been fixed.
- There was a Maxis mistake which prevented the game from properly considering the mood of the audience while determining how they react. This has been fixed.
- The audience will not increase their Fun motive any more if the instrument player has lower than 500 Creativity.
Romantic Standards Version: There is now a Romantic Standards version of this mod, which requires my Romantic Standards mod. This version is the same as the regular version, but makes it so that when Sim A positively reacts to Sim B while watching a performance, if Sim A is attraction capable towards Sim B, there is a chance that Sim A will get a crush towards Sim B. If Sim A and B are currently singing a duet on a karaoke machine, then they have a chance to get a crush and love towards each other.
UPDATE 8: Fixed a further issue with karaoke duets.
UPDATE 7: If the sim is performing poetry or stand-up on the Apartment Life microphone, the chance to get a crush/love depends on the watching sim's Film and Literature enthusiasm, and if the sim is singing, then it depends on Music and Dance enthusiasm.
- Fixed an error with the violin.
- Made it less likely for sims to get a crush/love in the Romantic Standards version. Sims who have high Music and Dance enthusiasm are more likely to get a crush/love.
- Fixed a Maxis error that could happen while sims were watching a karaoke performance.
Romantic Standards Version: There is now a Romantic Standards version of this mod, which requires my Romantic Standards mod. UPDATE 4: Sims will also have their relationship increased/decreased with the performer while watching Fire Dance and Break Dance.
UPDATE 3: Sims who are watching a performance will increase their fun motive and enthusiasm if the performing sim has at least 300 Creativity, rather than the earlier 500.
UPDATE 2: Fixed a rare error.
UPDATE 1: Sims always receive a +1 STR towards rapping sims. Now, sims may receive +1 STR if they react very positively, and -1 STR if they react very negatively.

Dance Mod: This is a mod that fixes many issues with dance interactions in the Sims 2. It also changes the way many dance interactions work.
- Sims dance behind the Freetime DJ booth in an unmodded game. This has been fixed.
- If sims autonomously initiate the Smustle, Hula and Slap dances, they don't route towards the stereo and they start dancing wherever they currently are. This has been fixed, they will now route close to the stereo before starting to dance. Similarly, if the player orders a sim to dance Smutle, Hula or Slap to a DJ booth, sims will route extremely close to the booth and start dancing with half of their body clipping into the booth. This has also been fixed. Sims can now satisfy DJ booth wants on the Freetime DJ booth, too.
- Sims increase their dance skill extremely quickly in this game, which I dislike. This mod heavily slows down the rate at which sims increase their Dance skill, and bases the rate on their Active personality, and their Body and Creativity skills. In addition, if there is a DJ currently using a DJ booth in the same room, then the sim's rate of increasing their dance skill is boosted further depending on the DJ's Creativity skill and Music and Dance enthusiasm.
- When sims are performing the Dance Together interaction, they will now increase their Body Temperature up to a certain limit. While Sim A and B are performing the Dance Together, Classic Dance and Slow Dance interactions, they will have a chance to increase their STR and/or LTR towards each other every loop depending on their own Music and Dance enthusiasm, and also on the Dance skill of the sim they are dancing with. If both sims have high Dance skill, they can now make friends just by dancing with each other. Maxis should've fixed these interactions themselves, because obviously continous interactions like dancing should increase the sims' relationship every loop, rather than by a fixed amount at the end of the interaction.
There is a Romantic Standards Version of this mod. The only difference in this version is that Sim A has a chance depending on their Music and Dance enthusiasm to get a crush towards Sim B while they are performing the Dance Together interaction.
UPDATE 1: When a sim stops goofy-dancing, the game immediately deletes its emitter, which causes sims who are currently reacting to the goofy-dancing sim to be reset by the game without an error. This update fixes this issue by making the sim continue goofy-dancing until all other sims stop reacting. This update also makes it so that only sims who are currently facing the goofy-dancing sim can react.
UPDATE 2: This update fixes a large number of issues with instruments which are being played on a stage. In an unmodded game, sims route onto the stage in order to dance to the instrument. This includes dancing solo, smustle, hula and slap. This update makes it so that sims will try to find an available place below the stage to dance. This feature is only enabled for instruments, but not for stereos, DJ booths or karaoke machines, because the player may want to construct a dancing stage.
- When a sim initiates the Dance interaction on an instrument, the game checks to see if there are any other sims interacting with the same instrument with whom the sim has good relationship, and if so the game can make the sim dance near that sim. However, the game also considers the instrument player and doesn't have any checks for stages, so it was still possible for sims to get on the stage to dance near the instrument player. This has been fixed, and the game will skip instrument players as potential dance partners now.
- Fixed an error from the previous update.
UPDATE 4: I found out that the game doesn't allow sims to dance to instruments autonomously if the instrument and the sim aren't in the same room, which also prevents sims from autonomously dancing to instruments if the instrument is on a stage and the sim is not. This update fixes this and now sims can autonomously dance to instruments which are on a stage.
UPDATE 5: DJ Booths may be stuck in use in an unmodded game if the DJ who was using the booth was an employee who stopped using the booth in order to leave the lot for any reason. This update fixes that.
UPDATE 6: Fixed an error that would happen when a sim tried to dance to a DJ booth which an OFB employee was assigned to.
UPDATE 7: I found out that the goofy dance emitter is not properly coded and causes routing sims to play the incorrect routing animations. This is most visible when a sim finishes scaling a staircase, because the goofy dance emitter causes the sim to stop and perform a standing animation even though the sim is still routing, which then causes the sim to teleport to their destination. This update fixes this.
UPDATE 8: There is an issue in the game which causes an error whenever Sim A initiates the Dance Together interaction towards Sim B, and if Sim B is currently routing towards a stereo in order to Dance Solo, and if Sim B's personality and dance skill is suitable for the game to force Sim B to goofy dance when the sim gets to their destination. In such a case, the game throws the error and resets the sims. This update fixes this error.

All of these fixes are such good ideas. I really didn't know what happened before but I will be watching now for the changes. Thanks so much. I have the "builds charisma" hack and will be watching for problems. Thanks, Rosawyn.

Great mod, it mostly completely replaces the need for 'DJ Booth Fixes' by Cyjon but there is one fix left in that mod that you could add into yours: "DJ Booths on business lots won't be left 'in use' by departing employees."

Hi I seem to be having an issue which might not be caused by your mod but I'm not sure what else it could be. My sims get a want to 'perform on mic' but when I click the mic, there is no 'perform...' option, it just goes straight to 'sing' 'recite poetry' or 'perform stand-up comedy', I'm not sure about the others but 'sing' does not grant this 'perform on mic' want as it must not count as performing, they also can't get tips from any of these options.

I've also just sent my sim to a community lot to perform music and they ended up just standing there doing nothing for hours, like waiting for others to join in and townies on the other instruments mostly just stood there doing nothing too, my sim could occasionally receive tips in this period (on instruments, not the mic) but they wouldn't gain creativity skill or actually play the instrument, just stand there holding it...they didn't actually start playing until I cancelled the interaction at which point they'd play and gain skill for a second then put the instrument down.

I also use Cyjon's Practice Perform Changes. The two mods do not conflict but I'm guessing one of them is causing these problems.

Edit: I took the instrument mod out and they stopped standing there doing nothing for ages when performing instruments. It could be a coincidence or an undetected conflict with CJ's mod. I'm not sure about the mic part...perhaps sims were never able to 'perform...' on the mic and earn money? I just don't understand the want they keep rolling. Also, I noticed that my sims were dancing behind the Nightlife DJ booth in a community lot - can this be fixed too?

I had the same problem with sims standing there doing nothing when told to perform and I don't have Cyjon's Practice Perform Changes. Removing InstrumentWatchMod did not fix it, but removing MATY's comm-skilling mod did. I moved a lot of mods in and out that I thought might have any relation to this, but the only thing that made a difference was comm-skilling. I tried using the CommunitySkilling mod by Squinge, but it had the same effect. With comm-skilling in my game, my sims can practice just fine, but the only perform they can do is jazz!

Since removing InstrumentWatchMod fixed your game but not mine, I'd guess there is a complex formula involved in whatever causes the sims to just stand there.

Edited to add the HCDU finds no conflicts in my game with either InstrumentWatchMod or comm-skilling.
