When Prof. Charles Xavier decided to recruit a team of young mutants to become the X-Men, he found five individuals who seemed to fit the roles perfectly. They were:

Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, born with the mutant ability to fire optic blasts from his eyes, capable of punching through mountains. An accident left him unable to control this power, so he has to wear a protective visor to keep from obliterating anything he looks at. (Just a suggestion but an actual visor mesh would be wonderful if anyone's up for the task )

Jean Grey, aka Marvel Girl, born with the mutant abilities of telekinesis and telepathy. In the early days, just moving a book with her mind was a daunting task, however, she's now able to move tons with a single thought, and her telepathy is on a level second only to her mentor, Xavier himself.

Warren Worthington III, aka Angel, sprouted wings when he went through puberty. Born into a very prominent family, he hid them for years, but found a safe haven in Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, he can now roam the sky free from persecution. Bobby Drake, aka Iceman, was born with the mutant ability to transform moisture into ice. In the early days, his formations more resembled snow, but he has since become much more adept at making works of art using clear ice.

Hank McCoy, aka Beast, was born with abnormally large hands and feet. His mutant ability appears to be his superhuman agility and his superior intellect.
