This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Any way to specifically assign parents to a Sim?
Tldr -- put baby up for adoption. Readopted her to another sim, added her to the household, left with her adult half sister. Is there any way I can change baby's family tree and readd her two bio parents and show her relationship to her half sister? Sim Blender changes it in the relationship panel but the family tree is unedited. Thank you!

No, if a sim has more than two parents things won't work correctly. You can assign them as found family with the found family hack, though, or use my adoption mod to have that done automatically in the future.

Yeah, you can change parents with the Sim Blender, but then they won't be considered related to their parents anymore.

Yeah I think that breaks the family tree, right? So is there no way to restore the original one and their genetics?

Their genetics don't change just because they got adopted, it works the same way it does in real life. The problem with more than two parents is not so much the family tree as that there is a lot of code that cycles through all sims looking for someone's parents, and uses the first two it finds and then quits. If there are more than two parents, the wrong two sims might get selected and weird things could happen.

You can edit the family tree in SimPE, but as mentioned, Sims can only have up to two parents on their family tree. So you can remove the adoptive parents and add her bio parents so they will appear on the family tree. This video explains how to do that. .

You can still have her treat her adoptive parents as family by assigning them as such via the SimBlender, but they won't show up on her family tree as her parents anymore (since you've replaced them with the bio parents).

No, if you assign parents using the Sim Blender, the Sim Blender will remove any existing parents when it does that. If you have more than two people marked as the sim's parents, things will not work correctly.

Found Family is safe though, right?

Yes, Found Family doesn't mark anyone as a specific type of relative, it just makes them considered family in general.

What I do is teleport the child into the desired household using the simlogical teleporter, and move them in. Sometimes it takes several tries (if the child was overheated/freezing they'll retain that state when teleported in and may bet taken right away again, so you have to think and act quickly), but eventually you'll have the child living in the new household, family tree and relationships intact.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

In my experience SimBlender doesn't actually add Sims to the family tree, it just gives them the "family" flag in the relationships panel.

That's what it does for every relationship except parents, because only links between parents and children actually exist in the family tree. If you update the parents, it updates the family tree.

Huh, didn't know that. I guess I've never tried using it for parent-child relationships. I just always assumed it wasn't capable of altering the family tree, and that you'd have to do all that in SimPE.
