Default first born syndrome?
A few weeks ago I read something about the first children born in a game without modifying that, they come out the same or wrong in genetics, as my English is horrible, I don't know how to look for something that fixes that. I think I read about a super mod that changes a lot of things, but I wanted to know if there is one that fixes that (I think you call it the first born syndrome, but I'm not sure), but without changing much else, thanks for the help

The problem is that the randomizer that selects the genetic combinations isn't truly random. It resets every session. The solution to First Born Syndrome is to make sure that the randomizer function is used a truly random number of times before the baby is born, in the same play session that the baby is born.

You can do it without any mods by opening CAS before entering the house the baby will be born in and rolling the dice several times (this is usually called "rolling the pacifier."). You don't have to save anything; the randomizer is used whether you save or not.

The mod most often used instead of the CAS method is the "ffs lot debugger" aka "the batbox." The batbox can roll the pacifier for you without entering CAS, very handy. It can be downloaded here: http://moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/i...topic,72.0.html

Don't worry about the all-caps warning and things; that's just the creator's sense of humor.

It has many useful functions but one or two of them can have serious effects, so don't select anything that you don't understand. To use it to prevent Firstborn Syndrome, when you expect a baby to be born during your session, enter a lot, buy the batbox (it's in Misc/Misc), place it on the lot, and click on it with any sim, just as you tell them to interact with ordinary objects, and select "Fix/Rerandomize Sim Generator." You'll get a pop-up warning that the game will freeze for a minute and then quit to neighborhood; select OK. You'll then get a pop-up about creating and removing a number of objects, which will tell you how many times the batbox has rolled the pacifier for you, and be thrown out to the neighborhood as warned. You should then be able to re-enter the lot and play normally.

Once having rolled the pacifier or used the batbox in this way, you shouldn't have to roll the pacifier again that session, even if you have several births. However, the next time you play, you'll have to do this again if you're expecting another birth, because the randomizer resets to the same number every time you open the game.

You don't need to do any of this anymore, just use RPC, which fixes the problem at the exe level.

Maybe a stupid question, but does this first born syndrome also happen to new born pets?

Wondering where my MTS uploads went?

I'd guess it does, but I haven't had that many pets born in game. Firstborn Syndrome is caused by the game not using truly random numbers, but an easier to process randomization that is not actually random. Basically, true randomness is you rolling a die and seeing what the outcome is, the randomness programs use is more along the lines of "Do these calculations and the result is your random number". It's not limited to childbirth, Firstborn Syndrome is just the most obviously visible effect.

A couple more details, the Firstborn Syndrome specifically does not affect babies born during the same game session. So if you have twins, they won't necessarily look alike, or if your sim gives birth, then becomes pregnant again and gives birth again without you quitting the game, they won't be affected either. But if you then quit the game and have another baby in the next session, that baby will look like the firstborn child.

@kestrellyn, perhaps if you said what RPC stands for and/or linked where it could be found, that would be more useful? I vaguely remember hearing of it, but I've rolled the pacifier with the batbox for so long now that it doesn't seem that cumbersome so I never bothered to look for or download the RPC, so I can't tell her.

Lazy Duchess' RPC can be found here. I've never used the batbox and just rolled the pacifier in CAS which took forever on my old laptop, but can confirm this works great on my new computer. Not a clone in sight.

Doesn't RPC do a lot of other stuff as well, though? And don't you have to install the game through it?

There's a version that can be used with regular installs as well. There's a list of what it does on my previous link.

Thank you all very much for the answers, the truth is I don't usually have many babies in the game, but now I am having some more, and I had read that game error, sometimes I load the game and it is another session, I suppose that is it, if you exit the game and even if you save and then start, it is another session, right? The Lazy Duches one is very interesting but it changes many things, I think the bat box is better, the bad thing is that I don't know where to press it, can you tell me what the function is called in the batbox? .... and do you have to press it before the baby is born, right? sorry for my ignorance

You can turn off whatever you don't want in the settings. It doesn't install the game, it's just a launcher.

When you save, quit the game, and then start the game again, that's when you start a new session. It's not a new session if you only switch households.

As for the batbox, I used it before I started using the Lazy Duchess option, and I'd just click the "Fix/Rerandomize Sim Generator" option when I loaded a household that had a pregnant sim in it, or if I was planning for a baby to be born in the next couple game days. It doesn't matter when you use it, as long as it's before a baby is born.

One important thing, using the Batbox for this will first cause your game to freeze (that's the game pressing the Random button in the background), and then you will go back to the neighborhood screen without saving (so the randomly generated sims don't clutter up your game). So if you don't remember to save your game before using this option, you will lose progress. That's why I'd run it right after loading the family, so I wouldn't forget to save.

I hope it's okay to hop in on this thread; it's the same topic. I have LazyDuchess's Extender for Legacy, which is supposed to include a fix for Firstborn Syndrome, but Brandi just popped and he's absolutely a clone. Perhaps I installed it wrong, there's a more up-to-date version, or something..? I used the link from the Sims 2 Masterlist on this site.
Thanks for any responses.

Did you relink Skip? She will have a male baby that's a clone of herself unless you do.

Firstborn syndrome can't affect Brandi's baby, since it's the first one she'll give birth to in the game. Dustin and Beau were not generated in the same way. It may actually be impossible for Brandi's third baby to be a clone of Dustin or Beau, depending on how they were made.

I just checked and Skip is linked to all three children in Family Ties and Relations.
