This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default [SOLVED] Base game CAS Hair not showing for certains ages.
Ok, I will begin my thread by saying that english is not my first language.

Basically, I don't know really why some CAS hairs don't show up anymore for teens, young adults and children. They exist in the game, they are not deleted, but not accessible in CAS or modify Sims. I can see they are still somehow in thegame if I select the same hair for adult and aged down the CAS Sims on teens.

It concerns all the base game hat hair, like hatangora, hatfargo, hatbucket, hatcapup, hattricorn for kids etc.

I have searched for other case like mine, and I haven't find anything quite like it.

First I thought It was maybe because I deleted a default hair in game with the delete option in CAS (I was having troubles with some defaults hairs not working because in double).

But maybe it was an older bug, linked by the fact I run since the end of april the sims on a new PC on windows 11. And maybe didn't pay attention to that because I was using the cas of modify sims that often...

So I run tests, uninstall completely the game and run it without any CC and the hairs are still missing...
I moved the EA folder in my documents also to have a complete fresh folder

I verified a backup game in my older PC and the hairs are showing normally.

I tried to copy / paste the "base" folder from my older pc to the new to replace it with no results.

I use the ea app to install / uninstall the game and repair it if needed.

Maybe I have forgot some files to delete and the faulty file stayed in the PC ? Or is it a mod in the progam file that stay even if the game is uninstalled ?

It's maybe linked to the globalcatbin.bundle file in The Sims 2/TSData/Res/Catalog/Bins ? The second thread I linked seems similar to my situation.

I try to replace that file with a clean one in the base game and last EP (SP9) folder and no changes.

I use a wantree mod, config mod like Catalog Cleanup Mod V2 by Phaenoh and outfits organizers.
In the download folder, i use also defaults hairs and townie enablers.

We can note also that the base game hats and some accessories are shown as custom content with the star icon and in the beginning of adults hairs. Some maybe something isn't properly installed here.

Any pointers or help to help me with this will be greatly appreciated. If you need more information on something I will try to give you additionnal informations.
I will maybe try tomorrow, to uninstall and be sure no more file linked to the program file is remaining in the PC.

You appear to have not gone through our main Game Help:Game Problemwiki FAQ. Please go through and do the steps on this FAQ, including any others that it links to (for example the Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Contentwiki FAQ).

Usually, in the vast majority of cases, actually going through and doing the steps (doing, not just reading) fixes issues - sometimes you may be asked to remove custom content, or to patch - please rest assured that all of our FAQs have been tested by our staff and volunteers and we wouldn't suggest you do something unless it's been known to fix particular issues.

it's possible you have cc that is causing this. Have you tried with a clean downloads? Defaults may or may not contain a hider as well.

They did say that they tried it with no CC.

No CC also means "without mods" - make sure you don't have any defaults, recategorizers or hiders (recategorizers often hang out in the install folder, to avoid the * icon, so check there too). It's easy to overlook such things when reinstalling - if you have files you transfer over every time, you could miss something in there.

Which game version do you have? (UC, LC?)
The LC has some known issues, but I don't know if this is one of them.

Have you tried to "repair game" after reinstalling?
I think for UC (for a while, anyway), there were some small differeces between a reinstall and a repair.
If you have the LC, it's possible you either haven't updated to the latest version, or that the most recent update has caused this issue.

I've got the UC and the hairs show up fine for me (at least in Bodyshop), but I don't know for LC.

Also, it's probably not a good idea to mix-and-match files from the different EPs. In the basegame folders, there are files that are only enabled for adult (+ teen?), while in the Uni folder they've been updated for YA. Moving BG files over to Uni could potentially cause some YA hairs to go missing.

And if you have the LC, make sure the mods are actually compatible. User Interface mods can potentially cause some trouble unless they've been updated for LC.

Hi ! Sorry for the late reply, I was quite busy trying fixes ! And I manage to fix the game !

So for information, I went around the Game Help:Game Problem later and went it thoroughly. I followed above all the guides about uninstall cleanly the game. And even uninstall the ea app for good measure.

I used glary utilies to scan the registery instead of ccleaner.

For information, I have the UC game, from Origin initially and now on the EA app.

So the second installation after trying to fully cleanup the pc of any of the game traces, went the same. On a totally clean and vanilla game, the Base game hats are still invisible from certain ages...

I try repair the game also like mentionned above.

And after I tried something different. The path of the installation by default by the EA was Programmes/EA Games/The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection

On my older PC the game was installed on Programmes (x64) on the Origin file.

But on a (x86) PC Why not install it on the Programmes (x86) instead ? Seems more logical.

And this installation with this path worked !

So... was this residuals / invisible files still in the Programmes/EA Games path ? And going for another location in the PC did the trick ?
Or the path Programmes (x86) was the prefered one because for any reason for this older game this could be an obstacle for W11 PC ?

So thats all, hope maybe those informations could help someone who will encounter that problem too in the future.

And to be cautious, all the package like outfits organizers, objects unhider, townie enablers are now correctly put in the SP9/TSData/Res/Catalog/Bins so I can't delete a game file by accident or neglect.

Thanks for the imputs and replies ! Have a good day !

Multiple reinstalls can cause some files to not be uninstalled properly (registry...), which causes the newest reinstall to have issues. Something of the sort likely caused your problems.

The Program Files folders have a protective layer on them from Windows, which can cause some issues with file access, and on occasion when uninstalling programs. It's why it's sometimes recommended to install the game in a different location (for instance making a new location in the main drive for game installs, such as C:/Games). If you get any similar issues like this again, you can try that approach. This also helps when installing CC or other files in the install location.

CC is always best deleted from the Downloads folder, not from ingame or Bodyshop (unless you're 100% sure it's not repo'd, texture-referenced, or in any other way directly linked to ingame files).
