So I think it's best to prevent unwanted food from entering the fridge in the first place. For cereal, you might be stuck, but for burnt food, I think the leftover mod you use should prevent you from saving it. Which one are you using? I think the ones I've seen automatically prevent sims from saving burnt or spoiled food. You might be able to have a look at how that's done and also add the foods you don't want saved in the same way.

Sims don't put leftovers in the fridge autonomously without a mod. So if they are doing that, you just need to remove whatever mod you're using to make that happen and then only direct them to save whatever you want them to save.
