I am loving all of these entries! They are all looking brilliant (except for mine which sucks because it has no customers ). What is surprising me is that each lot is so different from the others; there are some amazing ideas and designs here!

Agreed!
I presume the merchandise in your shop can still be sold to ghosts and the (aliens in the) air if all else fails

Ah, but yours could, if you play it- mine doesn't because all the sims are dead.

Mine doesn't have any customers yet either, but once our Josh Anderson buys it and opens it for business, I trust there will be plenty. I feel really sorry for simsample's Josh. On my last day of trading in my own Real Life shop, I sat all day beside the till and took 86 pence -- less than one Simoleon. It was a Saturday too, which had previously been my busiest day. I didn't bother opening on the Monday. I realised I'd be better off looking for a job. So I have some idea how tedious it must be for simsample's Josh. My advice to him: pull that old chair up nearer to the till. You might as well be sitting in a little comfort while nobody comes. If, perchance, some ghost or alien does wander in, you can always stand up to serve them. Whether you should speak to them uninvited, I leave up to your own business acumen: I've seen Sim customers run away if somebody says to them, "Can I help you?"

By the way simsample, I'd love to see where Josh lives -- where he goes to at night after his fascinating day at work.

My entry is coming along! I always loved seeing building contests going along, reading the rules and examining all the entries and poring over the pictures and seeing what the judges have to say. I'm really excited to join in this time. The entries so far look great - everyone's worked so hard!

I had a false start when I tried to make a really creative and interesting two-storey shell starting from a blank slate in an empty hood. I couldn't get anywhere and nearly gave up on entering, but I woke up the next morning remembering that young Oscar Cooper, a teenage boy in Holtwood, had recently had the urge to take up a hobby by purchasing a crafting bench. So, like AndrewGloria, I'm building my shop in an inhabited hood with a planned connection to sims who live there. That meant I could match the architectural style of the existing shops in town and it gave me a better start. I'm most of the way there, my shelves are stocked and my cash register is set up, I'm just trying to make everything fit together nicely and come in under budget. And wondering if (as an inexperienced creator) it's worth trying to make time to recolour certain items or spend more time hunting for details...

I think maybe it depends on who you ask. For me, I'm a sucker for details.

I can't see that happening in Apocalypseville- unless something supernatural occurs!

Um, he has a sleeping bag on an empty lot so far, maybe I'll build him a shack!

I figured he'd just live at the back of his shop.

That'll be a shipment of 50 bags of cement and 2,000 caps.

You're on to something simsample. I think I'll make an orange restaurant with grilled cheese and mac and cheese as the specialty.

Hey! I've been there! Done that!
*I live in Central Florida, you know.*
That place has been there since I was a kid.
It keeps closing for disasters (hurricanes, fires, etc) and re-opening.
I don't know if it's open or closed at this moment...
Actually, that would make a very nifty TS2 build. Hmmmm.

Default Round 1 - The Production Line

I built this shell a long time ago just for the preview and now I get to rebuild it and actually furnish it for this contest?! I had the best time!

I love everyone's entries - looking forward to the next round (if we get enough participants)! Thank you for hosting @Justpetro (:

Default Entry/Application - Round 1: The Production Line: Anderson's Toy Emporium

Josh Anderson has commissioned Jones & Moltke Ltd., an established Veronaville construction company to build a new toy shop, with a small toy manufacturing facility also included, in Bond Street in Monopolis, a suburb of Veronaville. The Bond Street area is being developed as a local centre for retail and hospitality, with some residential properties also included. When the development of the area is completed, this area will have an urban character. As most readers will already know, Monopolis is the brainchild of wealthy (if eccentric) financier Milburn Pennybags, who has had some input into the siting and general character of the development.

Building work is now completed, and Josh Anderson, with the help and support of his wife Monica, intends to open the shop shortly. Josh has long enjoyed making small things for children, and now hopes to turn this interest into a profitable business.

Anderson's Toy Emporium is a modern retail facility designed for a traditional High Street setting. The public retail space is all on the ground floor, with large display windows giving a clear view of the interior. There are also separate male and female public toilets on this floor. At the back of the shop is a loading/unloading bay intended mainly for the road delivery of materials. Normally this will be closed to the general public, but it can also serve as an emergency exit. Toy manufacturing is done on floor above, where facilities for staff are also provided. This is a thoroughly modern building, but, bearing in mind that this is a suburb of Veronaville, and that Jones & Moltke is a Veronaville firm, they have given the upper floor façade a mock Tudor Veronavillesque façade. Andrew and Julian, the directors and owners of Jones & Moltke, are Veronaville boys, and they are proud of the heritage of the town. So this is a little touch that they like to include in their buildings.

Phew!! I think that's everything. That was a lot of typing! Somebody please tell me if you spot any typos that I've missed. I might add a couple more pictures once the shop is properly up and running.

@shastakiss I love the rustic mountain theme, I hardly ever use the BV mountain content myself, so your lot is a really good bit of fresh air!

@AndrewGloria I love the split-level thing, how you put the shop on the bottom and the office/communal area on top. It works very well and looks great!

Default Round 1 Entry
I was a little worried there weren't enough contestants so I put something together quickly. I hope I didn't forget anything; I probably won't have time to fix it. I also didn't have time to put in the No Red Lines mod. I hope it doesn't count against me.
