Default Do You Have Your Sim Buy Your A Cell Phone? Or Get Them A Landline Or Both
Me? both but I love how the cell phone mechanics work in the sims 2 to call a sim or a taxi among all the other options you can do on your sims landline.

I find it easier on both you and your sims mood meter to click on the selected sim carrying a cell phone in their inventory and so they whip out a cell phone from their back pocket instantly and use the phone instead of spending sometimes 30 sim minutes walking to the nearest land phone in their house plus actually spending more sim time hunting down the land line so you can actually click on it and tell your sims to use it

you can even call the police or fire department in the sims 2 with a cell phone and most times they will bring it out instead of them panicking and ignoring your commends telling them to use the land lines instead,

a Cell Phone came with the University Expansion Pack only but comes in no other form or at least inside any other expansion or stuff pack in the sims 2

How about you? do you have your sims buy a Cell phone in the Sims 2, because unlike on The Sims 3 you need to go to a store and buy one In the sims 2 they cost money in the game and your sims need to buy them in order to have them

And? has anyone taken the note of how old the Cell Phone technoloy is in the sims 2? in the Sims 2 they are using a thick flip phone aka a cell phone that resembled one that was popular in the 1990's and early 2000's not a smart or a touch screen, because back then they had button dial cell phones with thick antenna's on them

but if you do more research on google you'll find that those kinds of cell phones in the sims 2 were just the cheaper ones they had smart phones since at least 1993 but just not as smart

I used to make it a requirement where starting in their teenage years the Sims would buy their first cell phone, since I didn't get my own cell phone until I was 14/15. It was wholesome seeing a whole household using the phone to talk with their friends while they walk around the house. Then I would also add cell phones to the homeless sims so that they could also be reached. Thanks to the phone book mod that your sim could look up a person's number no matter if they're homeless they could be talked to.

Now? Not so much. Once their sim acquaintance is on the lot I'll have them talk until at least close to friend level so that when they do pick up the phone it's to invite them over instead of having a long conversation on the phone. I imagine it's partially because of my personal new preference I would prefer having my friend over at the house instead of spending time talking on the phone. Unless there's a working mod where they will use the cell phones to text their friend at the length of a full conversation instead of talking I might use them again. We're past the days of limited texting data plans, thank goodness.

But to answer the question. The regular telephone is what I have the sims use. If they're at a store where there is a cell phone kiosk, I will buy them one but it's no longer a necessity.

I uninstalled University years ago, but even then I only very rarely thought about getting the cellphones. The only downsides as far as I'm concerned is that sometimes when a sim has just moved I'll forget to give them a phone/leave the lot before I've bought one and only realize when I try to have someone else call that sim, or when I've tucked it away in some clever place where I have to spend a bunch of time hunting it down scouring every wall and table.

I am Error.

While in my own home, I have not had a landline for years, all of my Sims 2 homes will have a landline. Usually they have multiple home phones - in the kitchen, office, main hallways, etc.

I have been buying cell phones for more of my Sims lately, in addition to the landline, as well as the MP3 player and the handheld game console.
While there are some ways that I do wish that we could have a bit more modernization within the game, I still like the traditional features - the newspaper arriving every day, the bills delivered by the mail, homework being completed in a notebook.

I rarely bother with cellphones - mostly because I never bother with community lots, and the on-lot mods that adds them are a bit of a hassle sometimes (or I just forget I have them). When I do pictures, my sims rarely have any reason to call anyone except when I'm doing pics of them calling someone, and I've got several workarounds for that (sometimes I just pose them with a deco phone).

I'll mix a bit with a landline phone and cellphone. I tend to find landline phones less of a hassle in TS2. Sometimes I just plain forget to give them a phone until the phone is needed for something, though.

(after the "small electronics crash incidents" of sometime pre-2016, there was a period of I don't know how long where I couldn't access small electronics because of a bad item, and phones were part of that deal, so my sims had to manage without phones for a while, save for some creative solutions like using collections. Found the culprit and gained access to phones again, but I think it's caused me to instinctively avoid that section of the buy menu, until I remind myself it actually works again)

I use a costom home phone that looks like a scroll in a box for my Pleasantview game since it's taking place in the 17th century when phones wouldn't have been around though they're required in the game.I've defaulted the cell phones to look like rocks and the other persnal epectronics to look like other things.

That depends what hood I am playing.
Medieval hood I only give them a scroll phone landline to nobility and royalty.

Pioneer hood will get an historical wall phone down the road once its been invented. Right now they have nothing.

Island hood does not have landlines at all only mobile (cell as Americans call it) phones. I give them a free one via boolprop.

Coral Bay or Uber hood has both types but the sims had to buy their own mobile phones either from a shop or go online shopping on Monique's computer.

They still seem modern to me; the Noyin looks exactly like a Nokia I had for years!

I had a phone like this in my house when I was younger; so all my sims have them too! Although they have no idea how to operate the dial.

Some of mine have cell phones. I set up an electronics store in town so I am seeing more of my sims with cell phones, mp3 players, and handheld games. I always forget to buy them for my sims but running a store and having my sims come in and buy them works too. I had hoped that calling the fire department would be a bit easier with cellphones but more often than not it's a struggle to get them to stop panicking and call for help. Unless they've learned Fire Safety.

I used to have one of those phones with the big antennae back in the 90s. Well it came with two, one big and one short so I could swap them out as needed.

A little side note about mp3 players. Years ago, I bought an MP3 player to hook up to my car's FM transmitter and it came with one song installed on it. It was "Scalliwag" by Gaelic Storm. I didn't play TS2 until after this, so my mind was actually blown when I heard it in Simlish on the World radio station. I was like, "Why does this song sound so familiar?"

All my Sims' houses have landlines. I regard it as an essential when setting up a Sims' house -- almost as important as a bed. (In fact my "changing huts" where new CAS townies stay for a few hours before becoming townies, have no beds, but they have a phone.) I played The Sims 2 for several years before I got University, so it's only comparatively recently that they've been available at all for my Sims to buy. So far only a few of my Sims have bought them. At §149 the Noyin is dearer than any mobile 'phone (as we call them here) that I've ever bought, and a lot of my Sims have to think hard before spending that amount of money on a 'phone. There are some rich Sims living in Veronaville, but it's not a rich town. If you've only got §200, you're not going to spend §149 of it on a telephone!.

Another limitation is that at present there are only a small number of outlets where you can buy one. Offhand I can only think of a handful of places in Veronaville that have a Sellafone machine. There's 431 Globe Street where Julian bought his a few days ago, and downtown there's Sims gone Wired. And there's one in the one of the Strand Shops in Monopolis. It may also be possible to buy a mobile phone in the minimart in Custer Boulevard, and/or the one in Veronaville Mews. I don't think you can buy a mobile 'phone anywhere in Bluewater. I should probably make a list of which community lots have Sellafone machines, and which ones have food and drink vending machines too. It might save time Sims going to lots that don't sell the stuff that they need/want.

On several occasions when one of my Sims have bought mobile 'phones, it's been because one of my Sims has gone on a trip downtown, and when they got there, they've realised that their special friend isn't with there with them. So then, instead of returning home, they've gone to Sims gone Wired, and bought a 'phone, which they then used it to ask the said friend to come and join them.

Mind you, this would not be necessary if it were possible to use the public payphone to summon the said friend. Which is after all what I would have had to do in the first forty odd years of my life. My Sims tell me that they would be more than willing to actually pay a couple of Simoleons to use a payphone, if they could use it to 'phone their friends and families. (I'd really love a mod for that.) One caveat though -- such calls really should be time limited. In my childhood, when local calls were not timed, teens would often monopolise public phone boxes, by putting their two pennies in the box, and then talking to their boyfriend / girlfriend for the next three hours! Too bad if somebody else wanted to call an ambulance!

A final thing: This is the mobile 'phone I usually use:
I don't think it looks much more modern than the Noyin, though it does have SMS text and limited Internet access. I do have a cheap smartphone too, but I'm locked out of it because I can't remember the PIN I used to set it up!!

I tend to not bother with cell phones. It's very rare that a sim will get one. I'm content having them use landlines. I grew up without cell phones, until my late teens and then it was flip phones that if i wanted to text someone I had to hit buttons like 3 times for one letter. I'm only 33 btw lol. I have a cell phone now and no landline lol but in the sims I just don't bother with cell phones for some reason.

I hate cell phones in real life, and refuse to use one. But I give them to my Sims just for convenience.

In my modern hoods, they have both landlines and cell phones-but now I don't cheat them the cell phones-they have to buy them, so they don't automatically start calling one another.

In real life I wouldn't own a landline or a cell, but with my medical needy son I have to have at least one. My girls get mad because I rarely take my cell phone with me when I leave the house. I hate phones, I guess that is why my sims ignore their landline when it rings. They only use the phone when their social is down and needs a boost and no one else is home.

It depends a lot on what type of sims I play - pop sims usually want mobile phones as soon as they become teens, and they get them because otherwise they just keep nagging. Romance sims usually get them too, whether they roll wants or not, because they always want to make friends with someone or ask them on a date and it's just practical. Other sims may or may not get a mobile phone depending entirely on circumstances. But every sim I play has at least a landline, so they can call the fire department if they need to, or be contacted by other playable households.

I usually give my sims cell phones in addition to landlines since children can't use cell phones. The other two devices I don't tend to have my sims buy as often. If anything, I let some of my sims have the gameboy handheld but I don't like letting my sims have the MP3 player. I find that they tend to autonomously use the MP3 player a lot and the animation for putting it away takes too long, which becomes an issue if I'm trying to direct my sims to do something important (go to school/work, take care of baby, feed starving pet, etc). Meanwhile the handheld doesn't take as much time to get out/put away, and I like that if two sims have a handheld they can play together as a social interaction!

I often get them cell phones. They look like the cell phones we had as newlyweds in the early oughts.

The only sims of mine who don't have landlines are some apartment dwellers: like some of my town friends, they don't really need landlines. I note that cell phone coverage is weirdly universal in the Sims.

One minor peeve that I have with mobile 'phones / cellphones: One of my Sims has a want to buy a cellphone. I don't lock the want because it's only worth 500 Aspiration points, and they've got another more significant want locked. I send them to a community lot where they can buy one. When they arrive at the community lot, their wants re-roll -- and the want to buy a cellphone is gone. Often I just let them buy the 'phone -- after all they have told me they'd like one. But it's a shame they don't get the Aspiration points.

I never give my sims a mobile unless they roll the want for it. I hate the way in sims 4, they all stand around on their phones unless you tell them to do something. In sims 2, if they are bored, they talk to each other or find something to do.

In real life, I haven't had a landline for 10 years. We have an internet connection but no phone plugged in.

I'll use landlines for my Pleasantview though they'll just be scrolls and a default for the cell phone if they want one so it looks more historcal.

Some nice defaults here. http://www.medievalsims.com/forums/...php?f=75&t=6206

And if you use the pigeon one then there's also a DR of the cellphone kiosk that looks like a pigeon coop. http://www.medievalsims.com/forums/...php?f=75&t=6656
