Which is not something I really would encourage, but it's better than paying a premium for EA's latest turd.

Luckily, I still have .isos I made of my own legally purchased retail copies, so I don't have to worry too much.

I, too have my own legal copies of this game, and I really do feel sorry for those who got taken in by EA's 'magnanimous' gesture.

They worked on the very soft nostalgia spot and worked over all the fans.

Shame on them! All for a buck!

But then again, this is EA we're talking about...

I wonder if they'll ever fix the infamous glitch/bug with staircases after M&G, where the game keeps throwing an error that the staircase can't be placed (next a wall I believe) even though nothing is actually blocking it, and you have to have the moveobjects cheat turned on just to place a modular staircase.

I think it might be useful to compile a list of new bugs observed in the rerelease so that when people inevitably post about them we can identify them as known issues with the rerelease for which there is currently no fix.

Here's what I've seen so far:
  • Crash when a pet returns home from work (Update: This seems to be related to the unlocks achieved when a pet is promoted, so unlocking those in a different way will likely also cause the crash)
  • Unable to close custom skin dialog in CAS
  • Alien abduction no longer works and throws an error (Update: May be related to other sims reacting to abduction, and thus the abduction should work if there are no other sims to react to it. Reportedly fixed by my Abduction Reaction Fix, which actually fixes a Free Time bug that prevented reactions from occurring, so it may be additional brokenness from the Free Time bug)
  • Serving food no longer works and throws an error
  • Constant errors from the Enthusiasm Tracker (probably related to subscribing to a magazine)
  • Too Many Iterations Error when visiting a community lot, may be related to above
  • Sims disappearing in the middle of a play session, where OneDrive and antiviruses are not implicated
  • IKEA Stuff pack missing (maybe not strictly a bug)
  • Poor quality audio for sim voices
  • Some sims are not able to gain memories
  • Body Shop and the Package Installer are missing
  • Rod Humble repeatedly delivers multiple computers

Feel free to list any others that you've seen reported, or experienced yourself.

Did they have anyone play test the re-release at all??? It's a wonder how this even got fully published in the first place...

That sounds a really bad one. Does that mean that children, who can't go to the fridge and prepare their own food will just die? Or just live on snacks?

I always have the cheat enabled when building, unless I need to place diagonal doors, arches and windows... so I never noticed or knew this bug even existed until now.

By the way, has anyone tried replacing the objects.package file from the Sims 2 Legacy Collection with the objects.package from the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection uploaded by @HarVee here? Maybe that might help with fixing the newly introduced bugs?

I haven't got the legacy collection yet so I can't test that out to verify if it really works, lol.

Edit: Apparently that's not working and this isn't even the objects.package from the UC... but it was an idea, lol.

I'm not sure if it's serving specifically, or just an error that happens at the end of preparing any food. If I'm right that it's an issue with Manage Inventory, it might be related to gaining a memory/token about having prepared food well or burned it, in which case it would only fire for foods that the sim burned, or is preparing for the first time. In any case, it appears that pizza and Chinese food work just fine, so sims can technically still sustain themselves that way.

That one is from the Legacy, not from the UC.

Indeed, it is. I can upload my M&G objects.package from original 2009 disc/retail version though if anyone is interested in trying what @Jawusa suggested.

Do Sims get those memories on all foods? I seem to recall the memory for "prepated food well" not appearing for ones under a certain level I think. But maybe its invisible.

I've swapped the UC objects.package file over to the Legacy version. No dice, I'm afraid. Same issues persisted (Too Many Iterations, broken alien abduction, served meals delete themselves). If it helps any, the objects.package file is the same exact size as one another.

That's the real unfortunate thing. I may be fortunate to own both disc and UC versions, but I'd love the version now on sale to be at least on par with the alternatives since UC was discontinued. If anything, I can at least caution people away from the Legacy version if they're interested in picking up Sims 2.

When will it be decided if it was intentional or not? Or does it depend on who says it? The thing is that from what I'm reading, it is critically broken, with no possibility of a normal game.

In the publication: So at this point, my theory is that EA somehow broke the Manage Inventory primitive. It's used all over the code, to do all sorts of stuff, if you break something that ubiquitous and fundamental, of course it's going to cause a whole lot of seemingly completely unrelated errors. Manage Inventory is now going hog-wild, throwing errors, adding hundreds of extraneous tokens to inventories, refusing o give sims memories, and who knows what else. I can feel it, this is the answer

I'm not sure if they get the visible Learned to Make X memory for everything, because I don't really pay attention to memories very much, but I think they do at least get an invisible token for every food, because that controls whether they can roll wants like "learn how to make X", which I believe they can roll about any food (I've seen screenshots of people's sims wanting to "learn how to make cereal", for example). Those wants and so forth also roll for custom foods that you have installed.

If the problem is just that they broke Manage Inventory, then it's at the C++ level, and objects.package may not have anything to do with it (and may not even have changed, if it's exactly the same size).

It is the same size. As a user of the original retail version, I can confirm this.

Oh, shoot... well! At least we tried to come up with a fix, lol! It would have been too easy, wouldn't it?
But has anyone tried replacing the sound files (located in ~TSData/Res/Sound) from the LC with the ones from the UC to see if that fixes the low quality audio?

The missing songs can be retrieved using this way as well.

I had zero intentions of redownloading Sims 2 anyway, but the one thing I loved was creating custom clothing in Body Shop. If that was/is missing, I’d want my money back. Long after the game itself got boring, I continued to create clothing. Shame on EA for not including it. And god help them if they decide to charge extra to get it, as “bonus” content or some other BS.

*Sorry for double-posting!*

New Patches released: https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/the-...tch-notes-04-02

ETA: There are some reports that the game would not launch after installing this patch: https://www.reddit.com/r/sims2help/..._been_released/

ETA2: Others are reporting that clearing your caches can help solve the aforementioned issue.

It is nice to see EA address some of these issues. Still a long way to go before I'd consider giving EA my money though.

So let me get this straight, are they selling a game where they fucked it up even more than they didn't touch anything with UC? If that's the case, my way of getting to install original TS2 has been destroyed.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english.

And what is worse, you have to be online to play it, and you have to have an EA account to even buy it all broken or not; so many things are reportedly missing that players have been complaining, it doesn't run properly; EA literally stole some creators' work and claimed them as their own; there are no fixes for missing licensed stuff (IKEA) and it's really not worth it IMHO.

I have the UC from another source and I'm guarding it with my life. The UC that has been mentioned in other threads does work, if you care to download
It is the full game, and you're not going to have to pay EA for their misbegotten morass of greed.
