Default Campus Constructors
Campus Constructors

I have enjoyed participating as a contestant and judge so much that I thought I would try hosting a contest. So here goes...

Qualifications to Host:
I have been a contestant in Jones’ Pleasantview, Veronaville, and Build a Business, and a contestant and judge in Loaf's It Takes a Village

Concept:
To build a university campus, from the dorm to the library. For some rounds you will be given the outside walls, others just the empty lot. You will need to choose what subjects your university specialises in for example Arts, Science or Sport and build your campus to reflect the specialism. There will be six rounds. University is required for this contest.

Requirements:
Game:
The University EP is required.

Simmers
Simmers with any skill level are more than welcome to come and join in the fun. Although some experience of building, decorating and taking good quality screenshots would be an advantage.

Judges
I would like two judges please (I will be the third) and one emergency judge. Please post an image of a building that you have built and decorated yourself in this thread. Judges will be expected to have their round scores in within a week of the round closing.

Rules:
  • This contest is for TS2 only.
  • No eliminations.
  • CC will be allowed in some rounds as per round instructions.
  • In the no CC rounds CC floors and walls are allowed.
  • You may add interior walls only to shells unless otherwise stated in the round instructions.
  • The only defaults allowed are roofs, and floor and wall edgers in both CC and no CC rounds
  • All images must meet MTS Screenshot guidelines.
  • All but the first image must be placed under [ SPOILER ] tags. You are allowed a maximum of 10 images per round, to include a front image and floor plan of each floor.
  • Each round will last for two weeks.
  • And finally, have fun!

Helpful image taking information
Screenshot basics

Timeline
The application round, is also round 1 and will be scored. It will last for two weeks. There will be 6 rounds total, each lasting two weeks.

Round 06 closes on Saturday 19 April 12mn, GMT

Round 2 - Judges Comments
Round 3 - Judges Comments
Round 4 - Judges Comments
Round 5 - Judges Comments
Round 6 - Judges Comments

Scoring
  • Each round will have a potential of scoring 75 points from each judge.
  • 5 point bonus award for the use of no CC in CC rounds (awarded once).
  • 5 point bonus award if you use absolutely no CC walls, floors or defaults in the no CC rounds (awarded once).
  • 5 Point bonus if you can add in the ‘random secret item’ that will be revealed after the close of each round (awarded once).

EDIT: I have reduced the ‘random secret item’ bonus to 5 points - on reflection seemed a rather high reward.

Build skill: up to 5 points
Have you divided up the building in an interesting way and does it allow for good flow?

Furnishing/decorating skill: up to 5 points
Does your interior furnishing and decorating style reflect your original design and theme of your Dorm and your chosen specialism?

Playability: up to 5 points
Is there enough space for all the activities to work and for the students and staff to move around without causing jams and foot stomping?

Campus theme: up to 5 points
Does your campus reflect the original design and theme of your Dorm and your chosen specialism?

Requirements: up to 5 points
Are all requirements present?

University specialism
Choose from the following specialist subjects. (The subjects listed in brackets are all University Majors.) You will be building each of your campus buildings to reflect the subject chosen.

Arts
(Art, Literature, Drama, History, Philosophy)

Science
(Biology, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Political science, Psychology)

Sport
(Biology, Physics, Psychology)

Contestants
I will accept a minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 contestants.

Round 05
For this round you have a larger lot and just a foundation. Choose something to build from the list of Campus Venues. It must be something that you have not built before. Do not forget to follow the theme that you chose in your first round. And do not forget to include the requirements for the lot that you have chosen to build. Remember there are 5 bonus points up for grabs if you build without CC and 5 bonus points if you manage to use the Random Object. As per the other rounds there are a few rules to follow.

You must not
  • Use any extra foundation unless it is for deco purposes – raised flower bed, to place a statue
  • Use any extra walls outside of the foundation supplied

You may
  • Use half walls
  • Have up to 3 storeys and one extra picture for the third storey
  • Custom content may be used.

You must include
  • A water feature using either the pool or the pond
  • At least one outside terrace that is on the existing foundation

Have fun!

Round 06

Since this is the last round I thought I’d go for something completely different. So for this round you may choose your own size of lot.

Please choose two or three venues from the list supplied (you may choose venues that you have already built). Do not forget to follow the theme that you chose in your first round. And do not forget to include the requirements for the lots that you have chosen to build.

Please use CC in this round, there are no bonus points for not using it. There is no Random object to find this round either.

You may have 12 images for this final round.

Have fun!

I know what I will be doing tonight Karen, before I make my final decision, I have one question. If I decided to apply for emergency judge, would I still be allowed to be a contestant? (And then of course drop out when judging is needed.)

Hiya Karen - WOOT! A new contest I think I'd like to try my hand at judging this time around...
here is a linksie to a house I built and decorated from Loaf's contest (I hope it's OK to post a link instead of a picture?) I can, of course, post a picture, if need be

I promise to have my scores in on time!

I'm only mobile, net wise, for today, but really wanna start this. What size is the lot, and how far away from the side does the right side start. Is it ok if I just recreate this one? Doesn't really look like anything tricky to recreate.

Can I be a judge?

Since this is a university and this is the only university building I have ever done, here is my Cubic Metre Dorm

I'm not building right now-I tend to go through patches, but at the same time I don't want to miss out on a contest with you guys.

I'm assuming Music Studies and Dance would "count" towards Art as well... (as an artist, this was the obvious choice for me, lol)

A couple of questions...

1. Could I just play along for fun, without being judged or having deadlines? We're in the busiest part of the year at work, and I don't want to feel pressured with my relaxing fun in the evenings.
2. To clarify, what do you mean by "what subjects your university specializes in"? Do you mean general flavor, like "this is a party school," "this is an Ivy League," or "this is a community college"? Or do you mean hard-core focus like "this is MIT" or "this is the Academie des Beaux-Arte"?

Omg! This is so interesting and I think I am going to try to enter in this contest. I have just one question, are we supposed to pick one unit of study? Or like multiple? Or like one to match each building we make?
