My game used to be minimized for days cause I didn't bother to wait it load at the start. U downloaded RPC for the first time since starting my new hood. I used to have crashes in Riverblossom Hills but I thought it would stop since this neighborhood had a lower population and less lots. I was bummed that it started crashing 5-10mins into the lot and I uninstalled it. Now here's the problem. It didn't stop crashing ir freezing 5-10mins into the game. The lots in question is an apartment building with a furnished common room and a mansion, so heavier lots, but I didn't have issues with them in the past besides the occasional lagging. How do I fix it? Those families are currently unplayable. I have backup but I would rather not use it since it was before i made a larger changes with the neighborhood elevation. I backed up the game post RPC though.

I am using RPC too, and yes, window mode still crashed so much and constantly pinkified my game. I think RPC isn't suitable for your PC if it's constantly giving you problems. I have this problems before but when I set my empty standbylist, update graphic cards to the correct one and reinstal windows and Voila! I don't have pink soup or crashing on my RPC.

RPC is just a launcher, it's very unlikely that it has anything to do with crashing, and if you are still having crashing while running the original exe, it obviously has nothing to do with it. What happens before the game crashes?

How did you do those things? I really want that program to work.

Trust me, I used to run the game for days and days and the moment I installed RPC it crashed 5mins into the gameplay. It was in random moments, if I was wanting to buy clothes, in Buy mode or when changing appearence.

Update: I kinda fixed my game. I took out The Sims 2 document folder for a new one to generate and kept all the save related folders and CC. It still crashed when browsing for new clothes but it's actually playable now.

Question though: why do you want RPC? I think normal game is already good enough for your PC. If you are aiming for the debug I can understand (since I got shit to glitch with normal installer). Have you tried Osab's ones? I think your RPC is incomplete or not compatible with the game or OS, just my suspicions

Install it via OSAB's tumblr, Add 4GB and set The graphic rules maker, also set the empty standby list.

Right, that means the problem was your neighborhood/lots and/or the CC you had on them. If the game is crashing in buy mode, or when buying clothes, or when changing appearance, it means that you have bad CC in those categories.

RPC is RPC regardless of whether you used the Starter Pack or just installed the RPC onto another version of the game. The purpose of it is to add all of Lazy Duchess's fixes.

Good question . I want better lot imposters cause my neighborhood is pretty densely populated and for the first born syndrome (I know how to fix it but this one would save me 10+ minutes). I didn't try Osab's but now I'm afraid to . Who knows? What I do know is not to install it anymore.

It was crashing anytime, literally when rotating a lot during live mode, but the chances were higher in the instances I described. I may have some bad CC, but 95% was from most popular creators and on MTS. Cleasing my game from bad CC is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Well it's not harm trying. I installed over ten version of the sims 2 installer (ElAmigos, Web archive, pirated CDs, simblrs) and so far Osab ones are the one that stay stable. However it is also depending on your software and hardware. But if you're aiming for lot impostor and first born syndrome I think there are plenty of fix for that if RPC doesn't work for you.

No, there is no other source for Lazy Duchess's RPC mods than the RPC, lmao.

Using higher quality lot impostors can cause quite an increase in the overhead required by the game, in the same was as neighbourhood texture replacements can. This can easily cause crashing- especially if your neighbourhood is complex and has a lot of decoration and effects. Removing RPC won't return the lot impostors to normal quality- you need to visit each lot with the higher res imposter, make a change, save and exit for the impostors to be downgraded.

Are you sure you have enough RAM to run the game with the RPC?

Because it does contain the 4gb memory patch, which will hit your RAM-it has to be better than 4gb to get it to work.

I have an 8 gig RAM memory and the RPC does not crash or even stutter.

My laptop has 4gb ram. Do I need the 4gb patch at all?

If I were you, I would Not apply the 4GB Patch, considering you only have 4GB of physical RAM on your system. The 4GB Patch allows the game to use MORE RAM than 4GB and your system just doesn't have enough to spare to both run the game and OS.

It seems that a part of your crashing problem is coming from running out of RAM since the 4GB Patch has been applied via that launcher.

Also, you don't need a pre-loaded launcher in order to apply the 'tweaks' it comes with. You could just run the tweak-mods separately in order to more easily weed-out changes that cause problems if/when issues come up.

In addition, I would Stop allowing the game to continually run minimized. Doing this is putting a lot of unnecessary stress on your system. When you're done playing, Exit the game. If you don't want to wait through long load times, clean out your CC and Mods; less is more.

Also shutting down the system when you're done using it would be helpful to your system in general.

Yes, that's right, my bad; though it would be nice if it worked the way I mistakenly remembered, then again that is what x64 apps are for.

Regardless, I think there is a RAM issue going on with the game being left minimized for days along with the fact that it was said there is only 4GB of RAM on board.

I still stand by my suggestion of removing that launcher; not that the launcher is bad, but that the system can't handle the 4GB patch.

Can someone comfirm how can I properly remove the patch? Is it obtaining the original M&G .exe file? Do I get to keep Graphic Rules? I can't seem to find it anywhere so I guess removing 4GB is an original ecperience in 2025 😂

I removed 4GB patch and I figured out how.

I removed all my CAS CC, maybe 0.0001% was left from being in the wrong folder. I did left my defaults that I downloaded in the Default Database. The game would usually crash in the hair section and clothes. I made an empty neighborhood and moved in the Gavigan family for testing. Of all places, it crashed in the glasses or facepaint section where there's barely anything, technically no CC besides replacements. It didn't crash there in the past. I feel like the game was going to crash in "change appearance" anyway and that just clicking anywhere would trigger that. I'm having the Sims 2 Legacy Collection experience at the moment 😭. Before loading the empty neighborhood and the Gavigans, I went to my usual neighborhood and loaded my heavy house for testing (cause if it works there it will work anywhere) and the game crashed as soon as I started browsing hairs (mind you I only left default replacements).

I feel like reinstalling the 4GB patch and testing everything once again. If it doesn't crash, I need it after all. This has at least made me cleanse my CAS folder from a lot of "junk" content I got from other sims and content I never use.

First test- drag your documents\ EAGames\ The Sims 2 folder to the desktop. Run the game so that it creates a fresh set of userdata.

Can you enter a neighbourhood and make a sim and play it?

Also- you mention Legacy, are you playing legacy or another version of the game?

I'm playing the original CD version. I was joking about the game resembeling Legacy cause it's notorious for random crashing.

I did it, it worked fine. I applied mods and defaults and it still worked fine. I tested the game with premades in Belladonna Cove. What should I test next? My save or CC on premades?

Test your save first. Make sure everything is working properly.

Save that play, then test CC-you can (if you'd like) partial it in, by running only some of the CC and then add in more as you test the limits of your game.

The reason is that if you have a lot of CC, it will start dragging down the game-the more you have to load on the amount of RAM you have the more the game will have to work to run.

Reference: this thread where the amount of CC is being debated. It also references other threads about what amount is safe for certain amounts of RAM, etc. It was a very enlightening discussion. It's been going on for 25 years!
