Default I can't get into Mod the Sims on Firefox -- Now SOLVED -- by Myself!!
Hi!

For the last twelve hours or so I've been unable to get into Mod the Sims on Firefox, which is my usual browser. I keep getting this error:

400 Bad Request
Request Header Or Cookie Too Large
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
nginx

However, to my surprise, I find I am able to get in and post on Microsoft Edge.

Mod the Sims was working OK for me on Firefox up until about midnight last night (UK time). Then quite suddenly I started getting this error for everything I tried to do.

Has anyone any idea what is going on?

I was going to try to bump this thread, but now I've fixed the issue myself! Or rather, not entirely by myself, but with the help of Google and the internet.

The first thing I noticed was that, if I opened a private window in Firefox, I could access ModtheSims anonymously, and one I had reached the site, I could log in and access my favourite website normally. This suggested to me that there couldn't be all that much wrong!

So I searched for "request header or cookie too large meaning" on Google. The answer that I got from a site called "hosted.com" was "Clear browser cookies and cache to fix the issue, as this removes unnecessary stored data." So then I searched on Google for "firefox clear cache for one site". The little AI Overview on Google suggested 'click the padlock in the address bar and select "Clear Cookies and Site Data" for that site'. So I went to a modthesims tab in Firefox, obediently clicked on the padlock, and selected "Clear Cookies and Site Data". I then opened a new ModtheSims tab and it worked!! So I'm now back accessing Mod the Sims normally again. Now that I see what was wrong, it's easier to see what might have gone wrong. hosted.com said that "This error surfaces when the data your browser sends exceeds what the Web Hosting server can accept, typically oversized HTTP headers or cookies." Now I really am a "Forum Resident" here on MTS, I usually have several Mod the Sim tabs open on Firefox, and I seldom log off completely. So it makes sense that the amount of cached data that I was submitting to the MTS server when accessing the site, eventually exceeded what the server could cope with. I now know what to do if (more likely when?) it happens again.

Another little lesson for me: I fixed this by following a suggestion from the Google AI Overview. I usually ignore anything suggested by AI as probably complete nonsense. Well, AI still leaves a lot to be desired, but at least I now know that it's improving, and it sometimes gets things right!

I think I'll post a link to this thread on the Sims 2 discussion forum to help anyone with a similar problem.

One other way you can fix this:

- Go into Developer tools (F12)
- Go to the Application tab
- Go to Cookies, then find the modthesims domain
- Find the Size column in the list and click it twice. This will order all cookies by size with largest at the top.
- Nuke the really long ones (over 500 bytes). Just right click them and click delete.
- Anything beginning with mts2 can be kept.

That should make it work again without having to clear your entire cookie, login information, etc.
