This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Haircuts change keeps reseting ?
Hi people !

Can I bother a bit and ask for a bit of help/ knowledge ?

I'm playing the Broke family, and wanted to change Brenda's haircuts to match her outfits, but they never stay the way I set them up ?

I tried changing them all once then saving, changing them one by one (changing outfit with wardrobe, then hanging haircut via mirror and saving) the game never keep more than one change (like, normal-formal or normal-outside...).
Also tried to change, then save, then quit and launch the game again, with no result.

Any idea on what I'm (the game?) doing wrong or, maybe a program/mod that will do the trick ?

Thanks for you tiiime !

Have you tried deleting your cache files?

See wiki instructions here.

The Everyday hair can be a bit "sticky", in that if you change it, some of or all of the other hairstyles may decide to follow along. Not always, but occasionally. The best method if you want to change all the categories is often to set the everyday hair first, lock it in for all hairstyles (lock styles, pick another hair, then the hair you want), then open up again and change the rest of the categories.

When you set the hairs, stick to one bin color. If you use for instance brown hairs and then go blonde, the hair usually resets to the wrong color/hair all over the board. You can sprinkle in the occasional custom hair for most other categories, but if you set the everyday hair to a custom hair, I've noticed everything has a higher tendency to switch to the custom hair all over.

The cache files are more likely to cause issues when CC files or mods are added/removed/updated, in which case deleting the cache files can help keep the game a bit more stable.

Make sure other changes are saving. If you have Windows 10/11, OneDrive making backups in the background can cause problems with the game not properly saving.

Oh thanks !

I'll try this trick + checking this windows 11 because had to switch to it like 2 weeks ago...

I'm using only one hair colour and even not a single sim custom at the moment, my customs are roughly 90% stuff to prevent corruption like the batbox, no townies respawn and so on, the rest is house stuff because I found a youtuber who's making soooo nice vintage looking houses I'm in love with them.

Custom color as in unbinned items, the hair bin * star next to the regular 4 hair colors. There are a few unbinned maxis hairs (some from the Holiday pack, plus a few others).

It doesn't matter that much if it's CC hair or maxis hair. If a CC hair is binned it acts similar to binned maxis hair, if it's unbinned it (usually) acts similar to unbinned maxis hair.

Unedited CC hairs made in Bodyshop are always in the custom bin.
CC hairs (even binned ones) usually also have a * star in the thumbnail (with some exceptions).

Oh yes, custom fancy colours already in game marked by the * , yeah not custom content.

So, it worked, I first set all the same (well nearly, sometimes it wasn't available like for swimsuit). Log out and in again to check if it was the sims or windows the culprit. The set was correct.

Then I changed them one by one, with those steps : mirror -> unlock -> choose an outfit option and set a haircut for it -> accept. Then click the mirror and do the same for another outfit, repeat until all set.

Log out and in again all was correct again.

So :

A lot of maxis hairs (particularly those with hats or hair accessories) are only available in some categories - or rather, they're set up to show a different hairstyle for the other categories. It's normal game behavior. Swim, PJs and undies usually get that treatment - occasionally, the hair is only available for everyday (work hats and such). Most of the hairs (all?) are available for everyday, so I'm guessing that's one of the reasons why the "lock in everyday hair first" method usually works.

It's possible to recategorize the maxis hairs to be more available, and it's probably already been done in multiple ways.

Most newer CC hairs tend to be available for all categories, though you can find the occasional hat or similar with the same setup as maxis hairs, with categories set up with a hatless hair. Older hairs (no Seasons) occasionally don't have outerwear available, and some hairs lack setup for YA (no Uni). They are possible to fix.

Ok got it, it's been a long time since I played a sim made by me. I really get bored quick and tend to leave the game for months. So I have the habit to play pre made sims for their stories are challenging enough for a week or two of gameplay, and then I go castaway, or sims 1, medieval, or sims 4... depending on new youtubers lots (sims 2 cc), mods (medieval), pack (sims 4) and trending challenges (sims 1) ... so I don't invest a lot any more in my sims creation besides the sims 4, and most of the time I'm more into decorating lots than sim playing.

I downloaded 2 "new" cc hairs I'll go check them. But most of the time only hair ain't enough and sims can look weirder because of the graphical styles not matching. And I don't feel like starting to browse the gazillion mods on the net to find skins, make up, eyes, mouths and then fashions for the very same reason...

And that was a way to long explanation lol.

Thanks again a ton for all this knowledge sharing ! I'll keep an archive so I don't come again in 2 years with the same problem...
