Default WHAT is happening with my foundations? Building into a hill, really freaky-looking.
Okay, so I'm trying to follow this tutorial for attaching a garage to a foundation. I haven't yet got to the part where I enter the CFE cheat, and when I lay my foundation into the slope of a hill, it's not level, and there's no top surface, except for a few spots... the whole thing just looks completely whacko. (see screenshot). Just to be sure, I went into the cheat box and entered "CFE true", and tried again, but to no effect.

This is a lot upon which I had previously tried building the same thing, but using a different tutorial, which went seriously awry. I exited the lot without saving, though, and actually exited the game, so... I didn't think there would be any leftover "weirdness", right? I could try it again on a brand-new lot... would that help?

Full disclosure: I DID do something awhile back, putting some code into one of the startup documents or something, whereby foundations are actually made up of regular walls... which has admittedly caused me a few minor problems here and there (it takes longer to delete foundations, e.g.). But nothing weird like this. Is THAT the problem, possibly? If so, what to do about it? ( I can't really remember what I did on that front.)

Anyone know what the heck is happening?

EDIT - Possibly a false alarm. The second time around, I ignored the tutorial's instructions about placing floor tiles between the garage floor (driveway extension) and where I wanted the house foundation. The foundation went in normally; I think it may have been trying to connect to the floor tiles or something, even thought there were no walls up yet. Does that make sense? Although, in the tutorial's pictures, the foundation looked fine. Shrug.

In the second picture the foundation is placed on a flattened area, in the first picture it isn't. That was the problem.

Well, but normally when you lay a foundation into the side of a hill (moving uphill), the top of it stays level, no? You're saying that if I started on the side of a hill (as opposed to on level ground, but moving into the hill), it would do the same thing again, slope downward, making an inverse profile of the landscape? I dunno, I thought that was pretty odd behavior.

Not that any of this matters, because I ended up going with a different lot design, without a garage OR foundation, but... I like to understand how things work.

I don't know how it would work in an unmodded game, but since you modded the foundation to behave like a regular wall, it would do that, yes.

Okay, so it is in fact related to that alteration... good to know. I think I'll try to get rid of that, as I haven't really seen any instances of it making my life easier as advertised... the opposite, actually. IF I can figure out what it was I did... we're going back a year or two here.
