This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Restored save neighbourhood & any new created neighourhoods - on "creating X screen," each time it loads
As one bug is fixed another arises, I'm finding a myriad of problems:

I transplanted my old neighbourhood save into Neighbourhoods. That, and any other new save file is taking a good 15 or so minutes to load on the "creating weather/pets/magic," screen each time I load it.

If it does load, I then can't load any families (it will go to "The X Family," screen and then freeze when the attached errors pop up, and then if I click Delete, it allows me into the lot, but deletes the sim. I then tried going back to the neighbourhood and the game encountered an error and crashed. Very frustrated.

Running on:

Windows 10
Intel Core 19-14900K, 3200 Mhz, 25 Core (s), 32 Logical Processor(s)
32GB RAM
Intel (R) UHD Graphics 770

I have used familyfunds' install tool: https://familyfunds.tumblr.com/post...ials-setup-tool

Which did add a bunch of mods. I have stripped all these out and uninstalled the program, but it seems to make no difference to the above. Any advice would be really appreciated!

This shows that the changes the game is attempting to make to your neighbourhood are not being written to disc correctly. Either something is preventing this from happening, or you don't have enough disc space.

Are you using onedrive or other cloud storage? Check that your Sims 2 userdata is excluded from being synchronised/saved to cloud storage, and check that your antivirus is excluded from on-access scanning of these files. Check that your userdata isn't marked read-only, and that no other program on your PC is attempting to use these files when the game is running.

Hiya, thanks for much for this. Attempted the below fixes, please let me know if these aren't right!

Local disk has 930GB free, I'm using Ultimate Collection from Origin but through RPC launcher.

OneDrive was on so I have unticked Documents and Files Not in a Folder to stop them syncing, to see if that helps.

Antivirus interestingly didn't exclude Sims *2* only 3 so have added this file path.

User data -- I wasn't 100% sure which one this was, so I have made the USER file and the Program Files x86 non read only.

The above fixes have made the lot load, but is then showing this error attached. I also noticed these -- could they be affecting anything?

Last two images are just telling you that custom content is enabled. Go into game settings and mark the option marked 'Diaplay custom content dialog at startup' to 'off', then reboot the game. First image is a game error- you need to post the error log associated with this error message for us to know what caused it. See if it still happens after you reboot the game.

I'm not sure you've removed your Sims 2 folder from onedrive successfully; unticking "Documents and Files Not in a Folder" won't exclude the contents of the Sims 2 folder! The game won't work correctly, and you'll suffer from data corruption if Onedrive has a file lock on the userdata files. Although the error log is indicating that the files exist locally.

Hiya, error log attached for you. Pastebin for the other two as they were above the file limit:

I've logged out of OneDrive but can't seem to find a way to get rid of it altogether or stop it including the file, would you know how to do this? According to google it's a common problem, this stuff is like malware...

Thanks for the help as ever! x

Does the game run without error if you create a fresh userdata folder?

Can you run the game with the fresh userdata and create/ save a hood without error?

You should be able to uninstall OneDrive the same way you would any other program, unless you happen to be running Windows 8.1 for some strange reason.

Thank you -- I've nuked it through Add/Remove Programs so I'll see if that helps, fingers crossed!

Aha! Finally some progress - test neighbourhood booted up, loaded into a bin family without issue, and then upon reopening the game, simply said "loading test," rather than jumping into the "creating magic," screen afterwards. Hope that helps, and hopefully we can rescue my save. I did this after nuking OneDrive (which, upon getting rid of, and then reloading on the old userdata file) gave the same error.

Is your save from before you installed Apartment Life? If not, it shouldn't be going through a "creating magic" stage.

No, I'm using the Ultimate Collection. Was created with everything installed.

Then your save is probably corrupted and that's why it's not loading. Did you copy it over another version of the neighborhood folder?

Not that I know of, I copy and pasted it into a backup folder months back, then pasted it into the Neighbourhoods folder. If you see the posts above, this issue was happening with the original neighbourhoods too, not just this save. The new user file is the only time the other hoods have loaded correctly -- fresh ones directly from install.

So delete the current neighbourhoods folder. Then copy and paste your backup neighbourhoods folder in again. Does it work?

Hiya, same issue as before -- the "creating," screen, lot loads, then slot number out of range error. This is my backup folder that I have put into Neighbourhoods after deleting (sending a photo on the off chance I'm not doing it right).

In that case, I'm thinking @Kestrellyn is right- it really does sound as though your backup copy is corrupted somehow, I'm sorry. If it's not detecting that the subhoods are attached then there is data loss or damage somewhere, especially as you are unable to load families.

The fact that you can create and load new neighbourhoods shows that it's not an issue with the rest of your game install.

Okay -- tbh the save was a biiit of a mess anyway so starting fresh might be good! Would it be safe to delete this userdata folder, start with an entire new one, then set up an uberhood again? Plus is there a better way to store backups to avoid corruption? Come to think of it, I'm going to try an older backup save (I have like 10) and see if that's busted too, just as a last hurrah.

Yes, the game will create a new set of userdata files if you delete the old one. Always verify your backups (i.e; check the file size and number of files/ folders corresponds to the original after making the copy) and- if it's important, make two copies.
