I love the simple modern one-story homes in The Case Study House Program, 35 modernist homes by angel f.

Inspired by CSH #3 and an original document by the architect describing the house, I created this modern house with a similar layout. It has the advantages of requiring no EPs or custom content.

The sunny foyer splits the house into two distinct sections: the public area is to the left and the private area to the right. The main area of the house is open-concept, with the foyer leading to the living room with fireplace, and the dining room. This area also has a chess table and reading area, plus a powder room for your guests. The eat-in kitchen is separated off from the main area by an archway and has a door leading to the sideways garage. The private area consists of the master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, plus two smaller bedrooms with a shared bath.

This home is very private, with a high wall enclosing most of the yard around the house. The yard is separated into several areas, including a play yard off the children's bedrooms, private garden off the master, hot tub, swimming pool, and outdoor dining area, and is accessible from most of the rooms in the house. Designed for a warmer climate, where outside living is available for most of the year, this house is still a comfortable house in cooler climates, when the yard cannot be used.

I'm afraid that I can't supply a copy of the original floorplan, because the document that I have is protected. If I remember correctly, I downloaded the PDF from:

Sideways garage:
Because this house is base-game compatible, it does not have a driveway inside of the sideways garage. To place a driveway inside of the garage:
1) Type in the cheat "moveobjects on"
2) Delete the sidewalk square closest to the edge of the lot on the other side of the street (see circled area in attached screenshot).
3) Choose the driveway extension piece from the build menu. Because of step 2, the driveway should be rotated (see attached screenshot).
4) Place the driveway in the garage as shown in the attached screenshot.
5) Type in the cheat "moveobjects off"
6) You may also want to place a garage door at this time. After placing the garage door, I would also replace the fake door made with vertical siding with the off-white horizontal siding which matches the rest of the house.
7) To reset driveway placement, save and exit to the neighborhood view. Pick up the lot in the neighborhood view and place it down again.
Note: Because the driveway is rotated, you will not see the animations for the car leaving and returning to the lot.

Weather-proofing:
This lot has a raised ceiling, which means that it may not be weather-proof if you have Seasons. However, it's very simple to close this building against the weather; just add some flooring above the main level.

Foundation roof:
I used alternate maxis-supplied walls for the roof. By using foundation walls for the roof, the price of this multi-level roof is reduced substantially.

The roof cannot be deleted or modified using the traditional in-game wall tools. Instead, you need to use <ctrl> with the lattice deck tool to delete each level of the roof. Or, you can use ConvertiWall to change the foundation walls on levels 1 and above to normal walls, which can be modified using the standard in-game wall tools.

The GridAdjuster, which allowed me to make the multi-level roof which was just 2-clicks per level:

ConvertiWall, which allowed me to change the walls on the roof to foundation walls, thus reducing the cost in line with the actual structure:
