  • 10 April, 2014 - Patch 1.67, new tuning
    Seeing that I had to update to use Into the Future, I have also been able to update this mod for 1.67. After studying the socialdata file for ITF, I noticed that it also added a number of new kiss interactions, although only one, Electrified Kiss, appears to cause a Romantic Interest. I have made a separate tuning file which addresses this, details below.
  • 18 October, 2013 - Patch 1.63
    Both of the XMLs used in this mod were altered in this patch. However, I'm currently working on something that I want to stay at my current patch level for, so an update to this mod may take a while. If you choose to patch up, you should consider this mod incompatible, though you can still manually edit the new XMLs if you're comfortable using S3PE.
  • 5 September, 2013 - Patch 1.57
    This patch hasn't changed any of the XMLs used here, so they should still be fine.
  • 22 June, 2013 - Patch update
    Both versions of this mod have been updated for patch 1.55.
  • 20 June, 2013 - Patch 1.55
    Both of the tuning files used by the mod were modified in this patch, so I will update them after I get the patch downloaded, and my own mods sorted. If you've updated to 1.55, I advise removing this mod until I post the new versions.
  • 13 March, 2013 - Additional UL tuning file
    Released additional tuning to deal with kiss interactions in University Life that were creating Romantic Interests.

Compatibility
The tuning is based on the XMLs from patch 1.67. Lower patch levels *may* work, but it's better if you edit your XML manually in that case (see Install Instructions).

The UL and ITF tuning files will have no effect if you do not have the corresponding EP installed, of course.

About the mod
Ever got tired with how kissing locked Sims into a romantic relationship? Maybe your storytelling calls for Sims to have a first kiss that doesn't lead into a relationship, perhaps your Sims are being hamstrung by the romantic reputation system for getting into unwanted relationships, or you're simply fed up with that Inappropriate sim laying one on your sims whenever you aren't watching them.

Whatever the reason, this mod can help by removing the Romantic Interest 'flag' in several interactions that would make Sims into Romantic Interests by default. These are:
  • First Kiss
  • Kiss
  • 'Kiss On Cheek' (I'm unsure which interaction this refers to exactly, as I've never seen it on the menu, but I've changed it anyway)
  • Make Out

In University Life, there are also several new kiss interactions that create Romantic Interests, so I'm supplying a tuning file that removes the flag on them as well:
  • Heat of the Moment Kiss
  • Rebound Kiss
  • Cinnamon Kiss
All the other relationship-forming interactions, such as Confess Attraction and WooHoo (Spicy Woohoo and Woohooty Call in UL) will still cause Sims to become Romantic Interests.

Into the Future added its own set of kiss interactions, although only one actually changes the relationship between sims:
  • Electrified Kiss
It's a mystery why the other kisses do not change the relationship, but as I haven't seen them used yet, perhaps there is some contextual reason why they don't.

Conflicts
  • SocialData_BaseGame
    This XML controls many of the basegame social interactions and is tuned by many other mods, making chances of conflict higher than usual. So, in the interest of compatiblity, I'm also supplying the method for manually editing the XML to achieve the effects of this mod, as it's really quite simple. Check the Installation Instructions for it.
  • SocialData_EP9
    This controls social interactions in the University Life EP. You can tune this XML manually per the Installation Instructions as well, if necessary.
  • SocialData_EP11The social interaction XML for Into the Future. Like the others, you can tune this manually if desired.
Note that you CAN use all of these files at once, as they modify different resources.

Notes
  • Backup your savegame or save to a new name after installing the mod. That way, you can remove it and revert to your old game should anything weird happen.
  • Be aware that jealousy is not affected by removal of the Romantic Interest flag on these interactions. Sims in a romantic relationship who witness their partner or interest kissing someone else will react accordingly.
