I've always felt dissapointed with the options provided by the Sims 2 modding community concerning the inheritance/life insurance system.

The only option we've (the non-modders of the communtiy) really had is no inheritance at all. Don't get me wrong, I also don't agree that spouses should get 20k just because their partner got to the top of the Athletic career. It ruins any realism I have so meticulously made for my sims! But, at the same time, why do family members not get anything from The Government when their elder Mayor dies? Or a Lieutenant?

After playing for 2 straight years in my custom hood, I understood that I wanted inheritance back, but in a more balanced and fair way.

And so, I am presenting my first ever mod after being a lurker - the Inheritance Payout Mod!

Turns out, this is a comically simple problem to solve. Just a simple BCON file within the objects.package.

I have made 2 versions - the Halved and the Balanced.
  • Halved is just the EAxis numbers but divided by 2.
  • Balanced is more interesting, and, well, balanced, in my opinion. With it, I have considered many situations that may happen in our sims' lives. Be wary that It's based entirely on what mods I use! They are all listed in the recommended mods section.
Here're the tables:

(I really don't think that the halved version is worth playing with but I made it just in case someone wanted the numbers to be a little bit smaller but agrees with what each group should receive in case their loved one dies.)

If you don't agree with any of my decisions then fret not! Since this is an extremely simple mod, all you need to do is open it in SimPE and change the values according to your preference.

Conflicts:
  • None, probably. All this changes is what number the game uses to calculate how much money to give out with the invisible Inheritance Token. Have only ONE file in your Downloads folder, though. They will obviously conflict with each other.
Compatibility:
  • I have UC and so can not say whether this is compatible with any other version. PROBABLY compatible with BG only? I'd really appreciate it if someone checked!
Mods I recommend for this mod for a more fun experience:
  • Lenna-InheritanceFix - this mod is required for anyone who wants to play with inheritance/life insurance. Fixes the Lover category so that it actually works.
  • Enabled Insurance Policy to Non-Elder - this is an amazing mod for when you use mods that make the probability for Adults to suddenly die higher.
