Hi everyone!

This official portrait was commissioned from Hyacinthe Rigaud by the Regent, Philippe d'Orléans, in 1715 and completed in 1717. Even before the young king, then aged 5, was consecrated, he is represented wearing the mantle of the conventional coronation. The iconography is dependent on the model left by the portrait of Louis XIV painted by the same artist in 1701. It affirms the continuity of a French monarchy where, according to the ancient adage, "the King never dies".
