TS1 to TS2 - Townie/NPC names replacement mod

Townie and NPC names from The Sims 1, now to replace names for your townies and NPCs in The Sims 2!

After looking at neighbourhood mods based on or inspired The Sims 1, it inspired me to make a mod with names from the original The Sims series. These names are just so charming in their own way!
The mod could work well with marka93's Old Town neighbourhood or gutosimmer's Early Pleasantview neighbourhood.

Names included in this mod:

  • The Sims default townie names
  • The Sims default NPC names
  • The Sims Online NPC names

As all townies from The Sims Hot Date have the surname 'Townie', I have made this surname as common as that surname in The Sims. The same goes for the surname of 'Anybody' and 'Somebody' from The Sims Superstar as well as the 'Strange' surname from The Sims Makin' Magic.
These surnames will also spawn on NPCs, as there is no way to differentiate between NPCs and townies for this mod. You may have fun with it and get a hint on where your "loyal" service NPC descends from!

This mod is made for an English installation of The Sims 2 and only contains names from the English version of The Sims.

Data collection and method
  • The Sims Wiki's List of default Townie names in English:
    I have applied all female and male (both adult and child) first names here to the pool 1:1. Since there is no way to differentiate between adult and child names, adults may spawn with a "child" name and vice-versa.
    For the family names from The Sims On Holiday/Vacation, I put them in the surname pool for both female and male sims.
    While the townies from On Holiday/Vacation have many different surnames, Hot Date, Superstar and Makin' Magic only offers 1-2 different surnames for townies, 'Townie', 'Anybody' or 'Somebody' and 'Strange' respectively. For each different On Holiday/Vacation surname, there will be a 'Townie', 'Anybody'/'Somebody' or 'Strange' sim.

    Here, I found all the names that could be used as either first names or surnames for males or females. I didn't put surnames for female NPCs into the male surname pool and vice versa, meaning you will not find a male townie/NPC with the 'Crumplebottom' surname, etc.

  • Volcanic for Free Sims Online:
    Thanks to the Volcanic tool for The Free Sims Online (FreeSO), I was able to extract the NPC names from this game as well. NPCs from this game include patrons at the jobs, food stand persons, service NPCs, etc. I did not include names of NPCs that are exclusive to FreeSO that would not in The Sims Online, e.g. pizza delivery people.
Duplicate names may also occur if any of the names have been used several times in these data sets.
