Default Live Journal
There has been a post made on tumblr letting everyone know that live journal is going to be leaving soon.

Eh, Live Journal has been, basically, dead for many, many years now (in most places/communities at least). Ever since the servers were moved to Russia and it became very focused on that part of the community at the expense of the international one.

Like I wanna say I haven't been there in like 10 years. And yes, google says the server move was in 2016.

I suppose that means I'll have to shift the stuff I've shared there to tumblr, though I know from experience that tumblr's not the easiest place to find Sims stuff. Though, with tinypic being gone, photobucket only being for billionaires, and imgur abandoning the UK, at least we can post pictures on tumblr. I know my Body Shop stuff isn't good enough for MTS, which is by far the easiest Sims site for downloaders actually finding stuff. But with creators of the quality of ICad, maxon and lientebollemeis taking their stuff elsewhere, I sometimes feel the quality standards here are now being set a bit too high. We can't all be Zarathustras! I think we need a place where rookie creators can share their attempts. Bring back the Sims 2 Exchange, EA. All is forgiven.

It appears that the people leaving LJ are going to Dreamwidth. The issue with LJ seems to be that it's become a surveillance tool of the Russian government, and they are requiring everyone provide photo IDs to even so much as leave comments on anything.

Here is a post about it on Dreamwidth (including links to information on how to import stuff from LJ to Dreamwidth): https://dw-maintenance.dreamwidth.org/97897.html

And this is why I just purchased my own domain and launched my own site on a server at my house, lol. I still need to fix some things on that though.

Edit to reply:

You are welcome to upload stuff not quite good enough for MTS to wiki.simasota.com. It's really new, doesn't have any contributors (or probably readers) other than myself yet, but I was thinking about letting other creators upload creations there. Still figuring out how I want to do things as I'm planning a video series for my characters (including my versions of the premades).

Is simblr.cc part of tumblr, or is it something completely separate?

It's completely seperate, it's run by @Lyralei . There's a dead site archive there too. You could upload content you have from sites that no longer exist.

I'm not even close to Zarathustra's level and I've only had one upload rejected from MTS. If your upload isn't considered up to standard then they work with you to improve it. And the trade off is that you don't get shoddy or buggy downloads here. What have you got that you don't think is suitable?

Oh, the Sim exchange was terrible! You could basically not download anything Sim or Lot without getting tons of unwanted CC along with tons of unwanted CC flooding your game. Or at least I as a kid couldn't find a way to prevent it.
The photo stories were fun, though!

I think tumblr is pretty alright for finding Sims downloads, but that might just be because I'm very used to tumblr.

I seem to have managed to miss the Sims 2 Exchange. XD It makes me wonder when I started collecting CC for the game.

How do you manage to find downloads on Tumblr? I have to trawl through most of a creator's CC looking for one thing, because you can't narrow searches down.

If you follow specific creators you can link into their pages and find their downloads on Tumblr-and you'll find that some of the CC isn't released to any website (or they do their own website).

I also do a google search for CC under their name or the name of the CC.

In addition to what @FranH said, a lot of creators have tags and even archives for their stuff. That usually narrows it down and then it's really not that different (imo) from other CC sites. And *definitely* better than the exchange was (again, imo).

Though I'm not sure whether you have to have a tumblr account to use those features.

I have a Tumblr account. My problem is the lack of a search function. Say I'm looking for female children's swimsuits. The closest I'll get with a tag is often 'sims2downloads'. Then I have to search every download that creator ever made. If I'm lucky they'll have a tag for 'female' or 'children' or 'swim' (but most creators don't), but I can't select more than one tag, so I have to pick the closest and then still have heaps to trawl through.

Back in 2004, it was the stuff of dreams! You never knew quite what you were getting, but it was going to be entertaining. I remember downloading a sim that came with really long hair, the creator had just stretched the bottom vertices of the mesh down to the feet, so the hair behaved unpredictably when the sim moved. One of the first long hair styles! Dreadful to look at, but I was so much fun watching the hair spear Goopy Gilscarbo through the neck at the park.
