Default Round 1- The Production Line
Round 1- The Production Line

Please let me know if I messed something up!

After civilization ended, Josh thought it would be a good idea to rebuild the economy. So he commandeered a lot in the middle of town (or, where the middle of town would have been had it not have been destroyed), and put two portable survival cabins there. He connected them by a glass tunnel, and set up a little manufacturing plant inside. He fancied making some robots to help repopulate the world!

I can tell this business is going to be the most successful in the neighbourhood!

I will choose a path that's clear- I will choose free will

Because it's the only one in the neighbourhood? XD

It looks really great. Well, actually it looks like radioactive trash, but I suspect that was the look that you were going for!

Default Entry/Application - Round 1: Anderson's Fine Pottery
Josh Anderson had just finished his 3-year apprenticeship at the famed Royal Pottery under the tutelage of Master Henry Potter. With the blessing of the Master Potter, Josh returns to his hometown to pursue his dream of owning his own pottery shop. Luckily for Josh, his grandfather had left him an inheritance of 38,000 simoleons and after much encouragement from his parents, he boldly bought a plot of land and proceed to build his own shop.

I found it quite hard. You should have seen my sighs of relief after judging my first round when I realised I was in line with the other judges

Default Entry/Application Round 1 - Andersons' Toys
Viper Springs was just a sleepy backwater in Viper Canyon County, but it is being redeveloped into a resort destination. A casino is being built, and the hot springs will be developed into a natural attraction, along with various lakeside activities.

Josh Anderson has dreamed for a long time of owning his own toy business and he thinks that this could be his best opportunity to go for it. He has acquired the first unit in a retail development to open Andersons' Toys with his wife Linda.

Here is the new business.

Default Entry Round 1 - The Production Line
After graduation Josh Anderson couldn't wait to strike out on his own. While settling into his new home Josh realized he had forgotten to bring bedding and potholders. Realizing there was nowhere in the neighbourhood to buy such things, Josh decided to make his own. Surprisingly he discovered that not only was he quite good at sewing, but he really enjoyed it as well. Josh decided to open his own business and share his love of sewing with his neighbours. To all the naysayers and haters who didn't think Josh would succeed, he has two words for you:

"Stitch, Please!"

Josh would like to invite everyone to come and visit his new business. It's sew much fun!

Default Entry/Application: John's Toys
Well... here's my entry. It's not much to look at. I'm not a good builder. But after some convincing I decided to throw caution to the wind and try.

I thought I'd finished building my entry a few days ago. It's called "Anderson's Toy Emporium", and it's located at No. 1 Bond Street in Monopolis near Veronaville. At §37,990 it came within within ten Simoleons of the budget, which seems perilously close, but in fact latterly I was just buying toys to place on the display shelves, and I kept buying them until the budget was (almost) used up.

I had a bit of difficulty getting the toys to place on the OFB shelves.I downloaded the buyable craftable toys by HugeLunatic that JustPetro linked in the first post. I placed them in the TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins subfolder of my highest EP (in my case OFB), as HugeLunatiic urged downloaders to do. but I couldn’t find the OFB craftable toys in the game. I looked again at that page about buyable craftable items that I just mentioned and found this thread that included s discussion between HugeLunatic and Shastakiss about these buyable items. It transpired that HugeLunatic had only made them avaulable on residential lots, and of course I wanted them on the community lot that was to become Josh Anderson's (work)shop. Two and a half years later Shastakiss shared HugeLunatic's Buyable Craftable items, made available on community lots, on SimFileShare. I downloaded these and now I could use them. However Shastakiss cautioned that "I don't think putting them for sale on ofb business lots is a good idea", which is of course exactly what I want them for. Now maybe Shastakiss was being very cautious, but Monopolis is a suburb of Veronaville, and Veronaville is vital to me as some of my best friends live there. So I've decided that I'll use these buyable craftable toys in my contest entry, but when Josh actually buys this lot, he'll buy a version without HugeLunatic's/Shastakiss's buyable toys. He'll replace them with toys that he's crafted himself. So now I've got two versions of this shop, one with the buyable craftable toys for my contest entry, and one without, to actually use in my game. Otherwise the two lots are identical. The toys on display will be slightly different in the version I'll actually play as an OFB business, but you'd need to have an eagle's eyes to spot the difference.

In addition I ended up making a couple of minor changes after sending Josh and his family to look at the new shop as I described in the Random Thoughts thread. While they were there, I discovered that Josh could use the toymaking workstation, while merely visiting the (as yet) unowned lot. If selected "Make Many, the toys he made went into his inventory, so he can sell them when he moves into the shop. He has revisited the shop a couple of times since that first visit, and now has a total of twenty four assorted toys he has made ready to stock the shelves as soon as he moves in: he plans to hit the ground running. The contest spec says, "Josh Anderson has always been good at making things", so I've used SimPE to give him five creativity points, and a silver badge in toy making. On the other hand neither he nor his wife Monica has any experience of running a business. I think I'll install Pescado's Smarter Cashiers mod to help them a little.

The minor changes made after the "Open Day" meant that I had to retake a couple of the pictures, but I think all the required photos are now ready, so I hope to post my entry tomorrow. Once I've posted, I'll let Josh move in, and I may add some extra pictures once the shop is really open for business. Having seen the competition we're up against I'm not expecting to do all that well! On looking at the other entries, and then at ours, Andrew said, "I suppose it will have to do." But knowing Andrew as well as I do, that's probably high praise from him. He added, "It would be nice to do well in the contest, but really Josh is our customer. It's more important to me that he is happy with his purchase. After all he's paying us the best part of forty thousand Simoleons, so he is a really important customer to us." The minor changes that we made were putting to lot price over budget. This meant we had to take two or three toys off display. By the time we were finished the lot price had risen to §37,999 -- one Simoleon under budget. Andrew shook his head and said, "I'm not used to going as close to budget as that! I hope it's worth it!"

I must have completely forgotten about the toys and the flowers, apologies for that (had them in my game for ages). Thanks for sharing the link,@AndrewGloria.
