Throughout the 1880s and 1890s in Victorian England, authors such as H. Rider Haggard, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Louis Stevenson, Arthur Conan Doyle, and H.G. Wells wrote many tales in which fantastic creatures threatened the British Empire. "Invasion literature" was at a peak during this time.

Enter Bram Stoker, business manager for the world-famous Lyceum Theatre in London. The now-infamous Mr. Stoker supplemented his income by writing a large number of sensational novels, his most famous being the vampire tale Dracula published on May 18, 1897. Victorian readers and reviewers described Dracula as "the sensation of the season" and "the most blood-curdling novel of the paralysed century".

Immerse your Sims into the Victorian world of Bram Stoker's Dracula through the Vampire Executioner Career. This career is based (as closely as I could manage) on the novel, and on the 1992 horror-romance film directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
*I apologize in advance to true fans of the novel and movie, who will recognize that I have skipped between characters a couple of times for the storyline of this career.*

Be warned! The subject matter here is not for the faint of heart...

VAMPIRE EXECUTIONER CAREER
cloned from the Base-Game Law Enforcement career
GUID: 0x0042CB07
focused skills: logic, body, charisma

Job Levels:
1. Solicitor
Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Mon - Fri | Wages: $300/ day
-- You're a newly qualified English solicitor, journeying by train and carriage from England to the crumbling, remote castle of a mysterious Romanian Count, in the Carpathian Mountains on the border of Transylvania and Moldavia. The purpose of your mission is to provide legal support for Count Dracula for a real estate transaction overseen by your employer, of Exeter in England. If you do well on this assignment, you might achieve the promotion you've been wishing for.

CHANCE CARD:
Despite your host's admonition not to venture out of your room at night, you are insatiably curious about the castle. Ignoring the warning he impressed upon you, you roam the corridors after dark, exploring the empty rooms. Out of the darkness, you hear voices calling your name. They seem to be coming from the room you are passing, and yet they also seem to be beckoning you down the corridor. Do you enter the room, or try to follow the voices through the castle's passageways?

2. Disciple
Hours: 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM, Mon - Fri | Wages: $400/ day
-- Somehow, what was to be a simple real estate transaction for the mysterious Romanian Count Dracula has gone terribly wrong, and you've found yourself to be his unwilling disciple. Your only companions are the spiders and rats that infest the castle, and the three demon women who appear in your room every night to feast on your blood. You must struggle to keep your wits about you as you try desparately to escape; a task that is becoming harder and harder as you slowly seem to be losing your mind...

CHANCE CARD:
You know you must break away from the castle that has become your prison, before you lose your life to the bloodlusts of the fiends that daily drain your lifesource. The room where you are being held captive is several stories above the ground, and the castle itself is a maze of dark and confusing corridors. Do you make a rope from old bedding and attempt an escape from the room's window, or do you fashion a torch from rags and a broken bedpost to find your way through the castle and out an exterior door?

3. Asylum Patient
Hours: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, Mon - Fri | Wages: $500/ day
-- Bloody, tattered, and barely alive, you've managed to escape the clutches of the menacing Count Dracula, but the price seems to have been your own senses. You were discovered, raving like a lunatic about spiders and rats, and collecting souls for some dark master. Without fuss or fanfare, you've been tossed in the lunatic asylum.

CHANCE CARD:
Daytime hours in the asylum are nearly bearable, with only the mad ravings of the other patients assailing your ears. Nighttime, however, is a different story. As your mind slips into sleep, the nightmares close in upon you; nightmares of demon eyes burning into the core of your soul, and a dark castle looming in the background. One of the psychiatrists hands you a bit of charcoal, with the hope that drawing your fears will help you conquer them. Do you draw the eyes, or the castle?

4. Blood Donor
Hours: 3:00 AM - 7:00 AM, Mon - Fri | Wages: $600/ day
-- A strange epidemic seems to be assailing the country, as normal people suddenly experience unexplained blood loss. Ever more and more desperate for fresh blood to stem the widespread scourge, doctors have no choice but to turn to unwilling, unknowing donors; like the inmates in asylums just like the one in which you've been imprisoned...

CHANCE CARD:
The doctors, with their transfusion needles, bring back horrid flashbacks of fanged, bloodthirsty barbarians. You cannot allow them to take your blood again, if you hope to maintain your fragile sanity. Do you attack the doctor in your cell when he comes to collect your blood, or do you try to talk the doctor into letting you help draw the blood of the other patients, in exchange for not taking your own?

5. Asylum Psychiatrist
Hours: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Mon - Fri | Wages: $700/ day
-- Gradually, you've come back to yourself and recovered your senses again. But now, all around you, you see tormented souls, locked into their own dark worlds. Understanding their struggles, you want to help them, and cure them of their imagined demons. But somewhere out in the dark countryside, a real demon still stalks in the night, preying on the population, draining their blood...

CHANCE CARD:
One of your patients is completely bonkers. He collects (and often eats!) flies and spiders, and all sorts of creepy-crawly things. But when a bat gets into his room one night, he goes completely nuts, thrashing and screaming, and has to be sedated. When he comes back to himself, he begs you for a cat, to keep the bats away at night. The animal might prove to have a soothing effect on the patient. On the other hand, you're afraid he might end up eating it. Do you give him a cat?

6. Transfuser
Hours: 3:00 AM - 7:00 AM, Mon - Fri | Wages: $800/ day
-- The epidemic continues, sweeping the country like a pestilence. Desperate to keep your patients alive in the face of random nightly blood loss, you begin a daily routine of transfusing the patients who experienced blood loss during the night with the blood of those who did not. But how long can you keep up the juggling act before you start losing patients to this mysterious plague?

CHANCE CARD:
Performing a tranfusion late at night, you notice something different about the blood from the patient you are using as a donor. Upon further research, you realize the blood is demonstrating fundamental changes, to the extent that it doesn't even seem fully human anymore. If you don't give it to your patient who needs it, she may die. But if you use it, you're unsure of what the outcome may be. Do you keep the blood to study it, thereby risking the patient who needs the blood, or transfuse it and save the patient's life?

7. Student of Obscure Blood Diseases
Hours: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Mon - Fri | Wages: $900/ day
-- You've hit upon a major discovery that may solve the blood-loss epidemic. You're devoting yourself to studying blood samples full-time, and pouring over dusty research manuscripts by a brilliant doctor named Van Helsing, who seems to be the leading mind in the field of obscure diseases of the blood. Somewhere in his jumbled writings, you feel positive you'll find a cure.

CHANCE CARD:
While examining the victims of the blood loss epidemic, you notice that each appears to have two puncture marks on the neck. The marks seem to trigger something in your memory, but you'd have to do further research to be sure. You'd like to witness the blood loss first-hand to confirm your suspicions. You can hide in a patient's cell and observe the goings-on, or you can disguise yourself as a patient and wait to see what might happen. Do you use a healthy patient as bait, or do you put your own neck on the line?

8. Hypnotist
Hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Mon - Fri | Wages: $1,000/ day
-- You have a theory, but the thought makes your blood run cold. If you're right, the country has a much darker problem than just a medical epidemic. If you're wrong, you'll panic the population unnecessarily. You want to be absolutely sure before you announce your findings, and there's only one way you can really find out for sure. Taking a chance, you decide to hypnotize the victims of the blood loss, to recover the memories of what happened to them in the shadows of the night.

CHANCE CARD:
Every one of your patients has a similar memory of their nighttime terror: that of being attacked by some sinister beast. Sometimes the attacker is a wolf, sometimes a bat that transforms into a human with grey flesh and searing eyes. Just as you feared, there is a demon on the loose, an evil that is centuries old. You must act to save lives and end the reign of this night terror. Do you announce your findings and risk starting a panic and destroying your reputation, or keep the real truth to yourself and simply suggest that the population protect themselves against the mysterious blood disease by eating cloves of garlic before bedtime?

9. Vampire Hunter
Hours: 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Mon - Fri | Wages: $1,200/ day
-- You've joined Dr. Van Helsing to attempt to track the demon responsible for the epidemic, and destroy it in its own lair. You're protected with garlic and mirrors, and armed with a stake to drive through the sinister beast's heart. But mind you don't go sticking your neck out....

CHANCE CARD:
The Russian ship Demeter, having weighed anchor at Varna, has run aground during a fierce tempest. All of the crew are missing and presumed dead, and only one body, that of the captain, was found tied up to the ship's helm. The captain's log was recovered, and tells of strange events that took place during the ship's journey. These events led to the gradual disappearance of the entire crew, apparently owing to a malevolent presence on board the ill-fated ship. The ship's cargo is silver sand and boxes of "mould" or earth from Transylvania. In an instant, you know the identity of the devil who stalks the night, having been held captive in his own castle. With Dr. Helsing, you hasten to the ship. Upon reaching the ruined ship, do you break open the boxes and defile the dirt with holy water, or do you simply put torch to the ship and burn it into the sea?

10. Vampire Executioner
Hours: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, Mon - Fri | Wages: $1,500/ day
-- After discovering the identity of the monster you seek, you acknowledge that you, yourself, must be the Executioner of the demonic vampire Count Dracula. Along with Dr. Helsing, you gather together a select group of good friends for a vampire hunt. With a stake in your hand and a Bowie knife at your side, you embark on a journey back to the the crumbling, remote castle where the nightmare all began...

CHANCE CARD:
Tracking the Count to the dark castle through the woods, you confront the Count and his Gypsies just before sundown. A mighty battle ensues, and a member of your group falls victim to the knives of the Gypsies. While your group is distracted by the attack, the Count breaks free of the battle and makes for the castle. You can save your friend, or pursue the demon and finish the job. Make your choice, but do it quickly; the fate of the future rests in your hands.

A few minor notes:
- After much effort and frustration, I've finally had to acknowledge that linking my desired custom vehicle (hexameter's Victorian Carriage) to this career as a carpool is simply beyond my abilities, so the "carpool" for this career is the "Captain Hero" fly-off from the Base-Game Law Enforcement career. With that in mind, two hours before the work shift is scheduled to start, your Sim will get the standard pop-up notifying you that the carpool will arrive in one hour. THERE WILL BE NO CARPOOL. At the time when the carpool would normally arrive, the career icon will appear in your Sim's action queue. DO NOT CANCEL THIS ACTION, or your Sim will not go to work. (I have a nasty habit of cancelling the action so my Sim can complete the actions I've already assigned, then clicking on the carpool car to put the Go To Work action in the queue in the correct order I want. However, as there is no carpool car for this career, there's no car to click on to add the action if you've cancelled it out of the queue.)

- The Career Reward for this career is a cloned version of the Vamprocillin-D vial. It is fully functional (will turn a vampire back into human form). As Vamprocillin-D was included with the Nightlife EP, I'm marking this career as Nightlife required.

- I did also complete a Vampire Execution University Major, but have chosen not to post it with this career because they just don't blend well together. The career is story-based, starting at the beginning of the novel, and doesn't make any sense for Sims who have a University degree, because they'll start out in this career at Level 4- Blood Donor (which is about like walking into a theater in the middle of the movie.) Realistically speaking, since the lead character in the novel started out as a Solicitor, and never really intended to become a Vampire Executioner, it wouldn't make any sense to have completed a degree in Vampire Execution anyway. Also, the University Major turned out to be more generalized, not necessarily following Bram Stoker's novel, and therefore not specifically Victorian (as per the theme of the Creator Challenge).
If you really want the University Major, please leave a note (or send me a private message). Just keep in mind, the major and the career are really separate entities; the major is not meant to prepare a Sim for the career.
