Required Information
The Professor Career Track (Levels 1-5)
Did you enjoy your educational experiences so much that you want to continue learning for the rest of your life? Then join the university career and devote yourself to lifelong learning. Be warned, however, this skill-heavy career is not for couch potatoes...unless you happen to study best when sitting on your couch.
Level | Job Title | Work Hours | Salary (Per Hour) | Pension | Metrics (Job Performance Factors) | Car Pool Type | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Grad Student | M,T,W,R,F 9-5pm | 28 | 0 | Writing, Charisma, Scholarly Journals, Colleagues | Hatchback | After finishing your undergraduate degree from Sims University and acing your last standardized test, you are ready to be a professor's work slave. No lounging! At least you get the joy of bossing around your own underlings for a change. Make sure those undergrads and high schoolers are earning those credit hours! |
2 | Post Doc | M,T,W,R,F 9-5pm | 45 | 0 | Writing, Charisma, Scholarly Journals, Colleagues | Sports | Dissertation, written. Thesis defense, done. Obtaining post-graduate employment, questionable. Nonetheless, pursuing a post-doctorate or another advanced degree is a notable accomplishment. It is also now required for professorships thanks to degree-inflation. |
3 | Assistant Professor | M,T,W,R,F 9-5pm | 68 | 0 | Writing, Charisma, Scholarly Journals, Colleagues | Sedan | After spending a few years in the post-graduate abyss you desperately seek a return to the familiarity and normalcy of your pre-industry life in academia. After obtaining another advanced degree, now required due to degree-inflation, you managed to scrap together enough articles and publications to get a non-tenured position at a major research university. This is both a blessing (good school) and a curse (no tenure). |
4 | Associate Professor | M,T,W,R 10-4pm | 87 | 150 | Writing, Charisma, Scholarly Journals, Colleagues | Sedan | You spend almost every waking minute of your life pumping out articles. After one makes it to the Sims University Review, you are offered a tenure-track position at your school. However, there is more lucre to be had if you continue publishing. Since another university might try to pluck you away by offering far more dough. |
5 | Professor | M,T,W,R 10-3pm | 110 | 200 | Charisma, Colleagues, Mood, Meetings | Sedan | Industry leaders now reach out to you for advice. While not busy travelling abroad for major conferences and global-leadership summits, you write a weekly opinion column in The SimCity Times and are regularly featured as a talking head for SIMBC News. National news outlets also routinely feature your opinions in their segments. You now make more from consulting fees than you do in salary. However, you quickly discover that your heart remains in academia and try not to get wrapped up in it all. When the dean needs assistance managing things, he still knows he can count on you. |
Academic and Research Branches
After serving as chair of your department for a rotation, you quickly realize you must make a choice before venturing further. Do you join the hallowed ranks of the academic leadership or leave traditional academia for a well-funded research position?
The Academic Leadership Branch (Levels 6-10)
You cherish your ivy alma mater and wish to take on more responsibility by joining the academic leadership at the school. However, with added power comes added responsibility. Will you actually enjoy this "lesson" in academia? (Pun intended).
Level | Job Title | Work Hours | Salary (Per Hour) | Pension | Metrics (Job Performance Factors) | Car Pool Type | Rewards | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
6 | Dean | M,T,W,R 8-4pm | 250 | 310 | Charisma, Colleagues, Mood, Meetings | Expensive | When the school adds a part time program your dean is overwhelmed. Luckily you, as his associate dean step in to help and end up replacing him. The world of academia can be truly cutthroat. It’s like your old office but with federal-style candelabras, dark wood paneling and your own dean’s suite. Just effectively deal with faculty continually coming to you with requests for higher research stipends because so and so got one, and you should be okay. This is assuming your grad schools rankings always go up by five rankings spots or more every single year you are in charge. | |
7 | Provost | M,T,W,R 9-4pm | 330 | 550 | Charisma, Colleagues, Mood, Meetings | Expensive | Somehow, the Sims World News Rankings were kind to you. In fact, they were very kind to you. In addition to this luck, you managed to build a repertoire of theoretical and practical knowledge and/or intellectual property bearing your name. All of this has led to someone informing the chancellor about you and your talents. You now manage major aspects of the university, across all schools and disciplines. Try not to let all the power go to your head! | |
8 | Chancellor | M,T,W,R 9-3pm | 668 | 700 | Charisma, Colleagues, Mood, Meetings | Expensive | After the chancellor steps down to enter retirement, you step in to take his place. Having had much success in managing the affairs of the various colleges you now assume a largely-political role. Make sure the right wheels are greased and that the almighty university rankings across all schools and campuses are top notch so that you can leave your post with dignity. | |
9 | Trustee | M,T,W 10-3pm | 722 | 750 | Charisma, Colleagues, Mood, Meetings | Expensive | They say that education is a business, and boy were they right! Finding yourself quickly frustrated with the constant limitations placed on you from above as chancellor, you try to enter the fray going on at the top echelon of power at the university, the board of trustees. The position is technically voluntary, however, you elect to keep your chancellor position and dually serve as a trustee, so you keep your salary and then some. Is academic leadership plush or what! If you are tactful in trying to prevent the FortuneSim 500 Company retired directors that sit with you from walking all over student and faculty interests, you might just nab an all-important Vice Chair position if one opens up. | |
10 | Chair | M,T,W 10-3pm | 810 | 900 | Charisma, Colleagues, Mood, Meetings | Go Team! Limo (Blue) | Can Hold Meetings in Business Rabbitholes | Senators and CEOs are your friends. Vice chairs are possible enemies. As chair you must strike a constant balance between the forces demanding ever more growth and those pushing fiscal restraint. You are confident in your abilities, however, and with your tenacity and advanced academic skills you are truly ready, willing and able to lead your institution into the coming century. |
The University Researcher Branch (Levels 6-10)
You long for the hermetic days of researcher life. So you decide to start thinking outside the quad (pun intended). You set your sets on private research institutes and think tanks in hopes of landing a well-funded sinecure.
Level | Job Title | Work Hours | Salary (Per Hour) | Pension | Metrics (Job Performance Factors) | Car Pool Type | Rewards | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
6 | Academic Researcher | M,T,W,R 9-5pm | 168 | 180 | Mood, Meetings, Logic, Inventing | Expensive | You decide to leave the academic buildings of campus to join a university-affiliated research center where you will get paid to sit around all day and think. Every academicians dream! As a bonus, you do not have to teach or grade anymore! | |
7 | Research Fellow | M,T,W,R 9-5pm | 253 | 270 | Mood, Meetings, Logic, Inventing | Expensive | You advise companies and other institutions of further steps they can take to improve research yields and increase profits. You are master of your domain. Often other teams will ask you for input on their projects direction and you happily share your insights. | |
8 | Principal Investigator | M,T,W,R 9-4pm | 264 | 290 | Mood, Social Networking, Logic, Inventing | Expensive | You now lead your own team of researchers. Trudging through the endless seas of articles and publications, you are always looking for the next great project to take on. Inspiring confidence and oozing charisma, you hope to one day establish your own enterprise so that your gravitas can live on indefinitely in the form of a research foundation moniker appearing underneath a SIMBC News experts name. | |
9 | Senior Research Fellow | M,T,W,R 8pm-10pm | 880 | 910 | Mood, Social Networking, Logic, Inventing | Limo | You now get introduced as being Doctor so-and-so, a Senior Research Fellow at The Lemmings Institute. The pay is outstanding and the work is whatever you make of it. Get used to plenty of camera time as the news pundits love having someone with a lot of letters after their name agreeing with their every word. | |
10 | Founder | M,T,F 10-2pm | 1173 | 1200 | Mood, Social Networking, Logic, Inventing | Finding the Cure [PINK] Foundation Limo (Pink) | Can Sign Autographs | You establish The Llama Foundation. A non profit research center devoted to uncovering all the unknown secrets of the Sims Universe. Immediately, you set your foundations sights on discovering why the name and face of a Will Wright was etched into the mountainside facing your hometown all those years ago. Only extensive data analyses and psycho linguistics will provide the answer. Good luck! |

Career Outfit
The Custom Career Outfit: The Professor from University-Life
Tones
10 Custom Career Tones
Attending professional academic conferences are a must for academics seeking further promotion. As a bonus, attending allows one to meet industry leaders thereby increasing the value of one's contact list, which others pay a lot of money to access.
Network at Seminars: Hang with Co-Workers Tone
Go to the daily seminar or the weekly visiting speaker series event. Not only will it make the daily, weekly, monthly university emails you get about the opportunity less pointless, but you also can talk shop afterwards.
Talk Shop with an Administrator: Suck Up To Boss Tone
Talking shop with an administrator is a great way to show the higher-ups you actually know what you are talking about. This ensures they will trust you with office gossip that might come in handy. You can always use the information along with another university’s competing employment offer to finagle more money for your research.
Give Oral Presentations: Charisma Skill Building Tone
For an academic to be taken seriously, they must be charismatic. Whether you actually know substantive information about your field is irrelevant, all that matters is that others think you do. Giving oral presentations is a great way to ensure this.
Write Articles: Writing Skill Building Tone
The single-most determinative factor of success in academia is the amount of scholarly journal articles one has published. Make sure your research stands out both quantitatively and qualitatively by spending as much work time as possible writing articles instead of teaching students or helping others you should be on your way to scholastic stardom!
Do Research: Read Scholarly Journals Tone
Reading academic journals is the only surefire way to provide enough sources for your articles. Articles that contain ample evidence are more likely to get published so make sure to review as many notes as possible!
Submit Grant Proposals: Logic Skill Building Tone
Grants earn money and money is always in short supply in non-profit research. Make sure to edit the proposals written by the postdocs thoroughly before submitting them!
Work on Patents: Inventing Skill Building Tone
Go check on that thing hidden under the white sheet in the sub-subterranean bowels of the building. Make sure to keep it hidden away from the prying eyes of the university, or else they might try to claim the patent rights! Such intellectual property rights can be worth a fortune and they are also partially-determinative of success in academia.
Offer Expert Commentary: Social Networking Skill-Building Tone
Offering expert commentary on the daily news circuit when important developments related to your field and/or alma mater arise can mean the difference between a six-figure paycheck and an amount far less than that. News programs pay top-dollar for seasoned pundits who have broad media appeal and exposure.
Attend Meetings: Hold Meetings Tone
Attending as many meetings with other academicians as possible ensures others are aware you are not only important but also trying hard to look busy!
Opportunities
10 Custom Career Opportunities

Increase Charisma Skill
The annual society conference for your profession is being held at your institution! Luckily for you, you get to spend the whole week mingling instead of writing and publishing. Unfortunately, you doubt your social abilities in this area. If you increase your charisma, you will be far more effective at luring in potential contacts. Do you attempt to increase your communication abilities or hope the other attendees are social misfits too?
Levels 1-5
Board Presentation
Visit Rabbithole: Administration Center
While waiting in a long line for coffee you start talking to the person next to you about how the line would be moving so much quicker if the snotty baristas at the front were replaced with VaVendiVendi Automatic Expresso machines. It turns out the person is a member of the Board of Trustees and strongly suggests you prepare a presentation and pitch the idea at one of the weekly suggestion meetings. Do you try and get the baristas axed?
Levels 1-5
SIMBC Interview
Visit Rabbithole: Administration Center
A recent development related to your field has arisen and the production manager for a leading SIMBC News program asks if you can come on the program to agree with everything the host says. She makes it a point to ask if you can nod assuredly for five to ten minutes straight. Such an interview surely would boost ones confidence and charismatic appeal, Do you bother or not? The interview will be broadcast out of the administration center.

Sir Wilhelm Richington III

Levels: 6-8
The SNSF Grant
Increase Writing Skill
A new Sim National Science Foundation research grant has opened up in your boring and uninteresting field of research. This is a rare opportunity. However, to ensure you get the grant, you should increase your writing skills so that you are as effective with your pen as you are charismatic with your voice.

Magna Carta A La Carte
Deliver Package to Bookstore
A bookstore clerk, thinking the document was part of a set ordered by a professor, accidently gave the professor a Magna Carta Draft that was being held for future display! The professor has informed you of this and that it may create liability for him and the clerk if the historic piece is not returned immediately. Unfortunately, he has a faculty senate meeting that he is presiding over and cannot return it. Do you offer to assist?

Levels: 6-10
SIMBC Rebel Protest
Visit Rabbithole: College of Fine Arts
A news chopper that was supposed to be covering a rebel protest at the Fine Arts School is malfunctioning and cannot get off the ground. The station manager, knowing that you are regular on The Raquel MadCow Show, asks if you can cover it until a news van can arrive on the scene. Such a prominent position in the news cycle will certainly help provide you with more of the two F’s: fame and funding. Do you laugh in his face or take him up on the offer?
Branch: Research
Levels 6-10
Sir Wilhelm Richington III Junior
Visit Rabbithole: College of Business
Word has it that Wilhelm’s son is obsessed with legal philosophy and arcane real estate terminology. Such a passion is hard to find these days but you also share it. Wilhelm Junior would make a great research funding source, as well as a great contact to be able to say you know when dealing with academic leaders. Do you seek him out or not?

The Mad Professor
Deliver Package to College of Science
A professor whom you often see muttering to themselves on the quad has come up to you and offered to help you meet “the right people” in the administration if you deliver a package to the School of Science pronto. On the one hand, the package is making a faint whining sound and seems to move on its own. On the other hand, the professor is really professor emeritus and probably spends most of his days in the faculty club chumming it with the Trustees. Do you accept or run away scared?
Levels: 1-5
Entrepreneur Opportunity
Colleague, Relationship Build
A local entrepreneur who is on the “real world” side of your field of study is seeking to fund studies related to a new project currently in development. You think you have just the right proposal, however, so does everyone else. You will need to seal the deal by befriending the entrepreneur.

Annual Research Symposium
Bring Nice Dinners to Work
Scholar’s Day is upon us! The annual event where student presenters show their research off to the public and the university community. Throughout the day judges rate the presentations and projects most likely to receive funding and the scores are tallied at the end of the day. A special dinner is then held for several students with the highest scores. An administrator approaches you and asks if you would like to cook for the event.

As you happen upon the Quad, you notice out of the corner of your eye the same professor you see every time you pass through muttering to himself under a tree. He is looking up into the branches and seems frightened. You really want to ask him if he is alright, but he is crazy. Do you gather up the courage to inquire or ignore him like everyone else?
Levels: 1-5
Sim National Science Foundation Surprise
You are about to submit a grant request to the Sim Science Foundation. The Foundation explains that they are looking for articles that are carefully hypothesized and thought through. Before you hit send though a colleague comes up to you and explains that in order to actually get Foundation grants, one must make highly-exaggerated claims that make it seem as if their research is the “holy grail” for all the problems of Simmanity . You are a little apprehensive about going this far but might be willing to stretch the truth a little bit. Do you stretch a little bit to see if this helps you win or stick to your well-documented and thoroughly evaluated script?

Levels 6-10
Summer Pie
You have a professor in your administrative suite waiting to meet with you. A secretary accidentally leaves a summer research stipend finalized proposal on her desk and this professor sneaks a peak. Once called into your plush office, the professor comes up to you and complains that the other Professor, Professor Sherli Slice, is getting herself a second “slice” of the summer research stipend-pie. She is getting funding for two projects but the Faculty Senate Rules restrict school funding to one project per faculty member. This was done to prevent Sherli from revealing to others that another professor, Orange Tate, was also getting a second research stipend because of his family’s connections to the university (this was decided by others and passed along to you for non-negotiable approval). The faculty member suggests that if he were to get additional funding for his side project, a green gelatinous new substance for welding called “Glubber,” in addition to his already generous summer stipend, he might be willing to look the other way and not bring up the topic at the next faculty research seminar in a week.
Levels: 6-10
Branch: Academic
Another Day Another Dollah, Another Pill to Swollah
You are sitting in your office admiring the Cheshire Mahogany paneling when Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor, Earl Fermi bursts through the door and demands additional funding for his summer research. You quickly point out that he currently has no summer research proposal on record and that he is currently already getting 4000 simoleons for the summer for reasons that are not entirely clear, considering it does not appear that he has any project he is currently working on. The professor admits he is not working on anything but exclaims that his Hunka Luxury Car “does not pay for itself” and that he often visits the nearby big city for academic conferences and that this should satisfy the “research” requirement. You point out that the faculty rules prohibit receiving, let alone using, summer research funds when no research plan has been presented by the professor. The professor threatens to take an offer heretofor unknown to you to work at the rival school in the big city and demands an increase in his summer research amount. Do you forward him the money and work out how to get around the rules later or tell him to amend the rules himself and to please get out of your office?

University Fundraising Drive
At a Board meeting, a Steward of the Administrative Staff Pension Fund informs the board that the fund is dangerously low and that he has heard murmurs that the faculty pension fund is quite bloated. You know both statements are true but you cannot touch the faculty fund. As a result, you quickly announce that a new university fundraising drive will commence to cover the all-important retire plans to care for the “university’s most valued members,” those in the “administrative professions.” The only problem is that a drive just wrapped up and you know that there are many alumnus who are sick of getting robo-calls from the university asking for contributions. That’s when you get a call, a local businessperson who is a life-long active alumnus will consider donating to make up the lack of pension funds for the secretaries if a member of the board agrees to meet with him for coffee and convince him to contribute. You know that the whole idea of a fundraising campaign for low-wage university workers will not necessarily appeal to a wealthy millionare and that you might risk losing the alum as a future contribution source for when other urgent matters arise if you cannot make a compelling case, something that appears likely will be difficult to do. Do you agree to meet anyway or try and make-up by getting the other trustees to pool their money with yours to cover the cost?

Scholarly Journals
Academic Journal Articles Read
Reading about other researcher’s crack-pot theories prevents those same people from discrediting yours since you can cite their work as proof. This places any would-be challengers in a highly-precarious position thereby ensuring your work stands the test of time, for all the wrong reasons.
Meetings
Meetings Held
Meetings are crucial to ensure you keep your position in academia. Although they alone do not necessarily ensure you move past it. Often that comes once you hear back from an academic journal that your article was accepted for the next issue.

1. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game and then close it again so that this folder will be automatically created. Then you can place the .sims3pack into your Downloads folder.
2. Load the game's Launcher, and click on the Downloads tab. Find the item in the list and tick the box beside it. Then press the Install button below the list.
3. Wait for the installer to load, and it will install the content to the game. You will get a message letting you know when it's done.
4. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).
Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.
