Asa-Shojo Style Teen Sim

Hi all! It's summer again! Woo!

I'm in art school, and the general art school attitude is that manga is not art. I do not know if this is overexposure on the part of the teachers ("I'm so glad to be visiting your school! I draw manga!") or if they honestly believe it's not art because it's commercial (and, sadly, many teachers do). Regardless of the reasons, I think this does a great disservice to the comic artists and Japanese modern art in general.

The shojo, or "young woman" manga style was developed specifically for teenage and young adult girls. As such, it focuses heavily on the emotional, and so the character design is centered on which parts of the human face display the most emotion. As such, those features--such as the eyes and mouth--are augmented, while the less-emotional features, such as the nose and chin, are downplayed. This makes for a very cutesy, childlike appearance, and facial expressions and emotional reactions are usually very cartoonish in nature. Additionally, since shojo is marketed to women, the colors tend to be bright and the drawings very intricate and "pretty," often with a certain "sparkle."

And so I present Asa, a teen female sim with a shojo twist. Her eyes have been enlarged and framed with the long, dark lashes typical of many shojo manga, while her nose and chin are more subtle. In her creation, I had hoped to work with the theory behind shojo while still keeping the Sim style intact. Two versions are included, one with a pink/blue color scheme and the other with a green/copper color scheme. She wears the traditional Japanese sailor uniform, with a plaid skirt and black Mary Janes.

• Asa wears a recolor of the Japanese schoolgirl uniform from Sims Island, as well as a streaked recolor of ZombieJill's awesome edit of Nouk's Huge Double Ponies. You must download both these meshes for Asa to display properly.
• Asa's eyebrows are recolors of -Shady-'s lovely Smooth Brows, used with permission.
