Versaillesque - A Summer Palace
The best news is that the upload is absolutely custom content and store content free!
This one of my uploads is a little demanding – it requires you to use three of your lots in Sunset Valley for the perfect placement of the palace. I apologize that this should happen that way, but I really wanted to create a big composition of buildings and parks, that deserves to be called a palace. You will have to remove the Alto household and place a 64x64 lot on top of it. After that you have to place another 64x64 lot right behind the one placed to the street. I will explain a bit later why does the garden has to be so big.
After you delete the lot the best way to place the new one is to look at it as shown on picture 2 and to place it’s edge in the middle of the big sidewalk tile that is left of the pedestrian crossing (that’s better visible in picture 4). This way the front gardens will be more precisely in line with the lines of the palace’s paths. In picture 3 you can see how to place the second lot, it isn’t very hard, because the line of the first one is visible. You can try several times until you make it the way it best suits you. There is a bigger picture in the pictures section.
Let us start our tour of the palace from the honorable court or in as it is called in French – “Cour d'honneur”. The floor pattern is inspired by the marble court of the Palace of Versailles and there is also a small French fountain that finishes the courtyard with a touch of water.
The entrance hall is a place that will leave you astonished. It is two stories high (also the height of all other key halls in the palace) and has a marvelous staircase with four big doors leading to the main rooms on the first floor. Through the windows of the back wall you can look at the magnificent gardens of the palace.
The reception hall is on your right and it is decorated in the French style with gilded furniture and blue fabrics. There are also a lot of works of art that make the room look splendid. This hall also leads you to the music room, which is also two stories high. I tried to make it look a bit more modern, but still classy. The library is in the same part of the palace and it could be reached from the entrance hall and the reception hall as well. It has a spiral staircase that leads you to the second level of bookcases and it also does contains a gilded pool table - suitable for a king.
Reception Hall
On your left from the entrance is the dining room. It is very wide and bright, also decorated with art and it is perfect for having a large party with a lot of high-society guests. Two doors lead to the kitchen. It also has two levels and on the second level there are a lot of wine containers – a must for every palace. A door on the other end of the dining room leads you to the guest bathroom and the laundry room, and as well to a second level with a bigger bathroom.
When you take the grand staircase to the second floor of the house you will find yourself in the giant Hall of Mirrors. The symmetry of the windows is untouched – to every window overlooking the palace garden corresponds a window with a mirror, that reflects the view and leaves you with the impression of an unending space. The hall is richly colored mostly in red and it has a lot of pilasters that form the facture of the wall.
Hall of Mirrors
It is very characteristic for a palace like Versailles – there are no corridors and halls to connect the bedrooms to the other parts of the palace, there is no such thing as privacy, because the royal family has a lot of servants and there is more to that – when you go from one room to another you get to see where they sleep and seeing their giant ornate bedrooms you understand how much power and riches these people have. That way you enter two bedrooms directly from the Hall of Mirrors – the Blue and the Beige bedrooms. The Blue Bedroom has a very complex pattern of the wall fabric and so does the bed, the room contains expensive furniture and leaves you with the impression of luxury. The Beige bedroom is modest in comparison to the other bedrooms. It has mostly two colors and its furniture is more simple than in the other rooms.
Blue Bedroom
These two bedrooms give you access to the master bedroom – the King’s bedroom. It is also richly colored and looks to the “Cour d'honneur”. This way the king can always observe and control his subjects, even from his bedroom (in Versailles the king’s bedroom is also located in the same place). It has gilded furniture and fabrics in royal colors – red and yellow.
On the same floor there are also a Chinese bedroom and a big bathroom and one level above the bedroom and the bathroom are the Chinese living room and the workshop for sculptors. The Chinese rooms add an exotic pinch to the palace and a workshop is needed for maintaining such a big collection of art.
The servants’ quarters take place in the mansard roof. There are two bedrooms, a living room with a kitchen, a little library and also two bathrooms.
The problems with the gardens in the back was the terrain. It is very steep and required a lot of alterations and that is why I came up with the idea of creating a garden that descends down the slope, finishing in a big piazza with gazebos and a large fountain. With a lot of effort I created the two staircases to have exactly the same measures and proportions and I put fountains beneath the terraces – this way water seems to be everywhere in the garden. The plants are also specially ordered and the last terrace finished with a very steep wall, leaving the impression of a grand scale masonry work. The lot with the garden can be purchased by the sim living in the palace if you have the Paradise Island EP. If not – you can make it a community park and visit it whenever you want. There are two belvederes in the park, you can see their floor plans from the pictures.
The park in front of the palace is also created to make the palace look more majestic. It is composed with a central point of symmetry which makes it self-sufficient as a composition, but added to the palace it expands the building’s aesthetic capacities. I think that it is best for that park to be a community one, because it will also bring more life to the place around.
When thinking of a palace we usually have the image of all the splendor in our minds, but think again – isn’t the Honorable court a little pushy? You find yourself locked between three giant walls with windows that tell you you are not in charge here. Do people really need two-storey bedrooms covered in fabrics? Would you feel comfortable living in such a giant dwelling with almost no privacy? I think that those are also a set of problems that I have put into this building.
Now it is time to tell you about the garden. The chateau is very big and it is completely symmetrical. Symmetry gives us a very strong sense of order and such a big building just must not have a little backyard that ends nowhere. That is why I added the gardens in the back and front – they continue the line of symmetry and complete the building’s demand for space and order around it.
